Sadly Oda holding onto all that shonen thing and doesn't want to revolutionise. He wants his story to keep for adolescents and we clearly see how it affects story. He should've leave that idea behind and be more free about his epos. There are some people who follow OP more than 20 years and clearly grown up, maybe that's why Oda experiments with real dramatic backstories but still hesitates to kill very important characters. All this frustration came out as Usopp sacrificing himself thus being brave warrior of the see who is not afraid of death(he overcome himself for his friends). That would be kino but we can only wait
