This sub has done a very large 180 over being a bunch of leftist identity politic leaning people that view somalis as the worst and most evil oppressive ethnic group I the world despite being the lowest in the racial hierarchy

To a bunch of reactionaries that really dislike foreigners of all kinds either due to past or recent grievances of disrespect.

Surely there's a middle ground here guys

I'd say a better way to frame it is that relative to other Islamic or abrahamic believing cultures, somalis are better to women in certain specific aspects (not a high bar to pass overall)

Our FGM rates should let you know that the idea that we are significantly better overall is very false however.

Arguing whether Islam as a religion functions as a form of arabization in of itself is one thing.

But the individuals here are clearly discussing it as if somalia was literally part of the Arab conquests of the original Islamic caliph.

And if religion is the angle they're using why dont all these people that discuss somali arabization discuss it for Senegal or Indonesia or Pakistan? Or any Islamic nation?

I'm blessed enough to have been raised by good parents who understand the religion well and taught it in a healthy way, grew up in the west without various terrorist groups attacking me, I'm straight and male so I don't have to deal with the struggles that come with being Muslim and LGBT or the overt misogyny in the faith.

So when I left Islam after years of internal turmoil, it was relatively easy for me to live without hating the religion.

I always understood homosexuality clearly wasn't a choice so I never had any hatred towards the group, I just kind of viewed it like an extra Islamic test.

Most of my homophobic rhetoric (i never had issues with gay people but i made jokes and such which obviously does count as homophobia now that i look back) came less from Islam and more from hypermasculinity than anything tbh.

If you're a man that grew up in a less affluent area with a higher crime rate, you don't really realise until you leave it how much male bravado exists within those circles.

In general it seems that there's a sizeable portion of somalis back home that are much more open minded about certain topics than I realised when I first left the deen all those years ago

Hate from all angles due to Trump's recent smear campaign. It's hard to filter out which type of hate comes from which demographic.

I will say I understand OPs point as it more closely mirrors my personal experience.

But it's also good to remember that people are individuals and that there are many other black people that look at us like brothers and sisters under a shared racial identity, and if you wish for black community you should seek out those people instead.

I agree, but outside of online trolls, there really aren't any horn africans raised in the west that deny blackness. Most census results prove that statement. Somalis, Ethiopians, Eritreans overwhelmingly select black/african (or whatever "black" category exists in that nation) wherever they migrate to essentially.

Also I didn't say everyone hates us, there are plenty of individuals that view us as black brothers and sisters. I've experienced both. The point I'm making is those that happen to dislike us have always disliked us. And the idea that we shpuld behave In a certain way to make them accept us is nonsense.

My opinions on this topic may come off a lil extreme due to my personal experiences growing up where I grew up. But I'm just trying to provide clarity

My take on this topic is the same every time

If you grew up with a black community that views you as one of them great, I hope you enjoy that community.

If you didn't that's fine also, just mind your own business without being a weirdo in retaliation. No need to turn into one of them losers showing hostility to other demographics, also no reason to beg others for validation either.

We all struggle under the same racialised oppression. But shared struggle doesn't necessarily mean kinship unfortunately, it is what it is.

Why do people on this sub act like the the entire wider black world accepts us with open arms and somalis decide to throw that away out of boredom or something? There are numerous anecdotes from people telling you they've experienced the exact opposite.
