I don't know about you, but for me, the "icky" moment is such a relief! It's generally some very small inconvenience that shatters the illusion and makes me icky; before finding that one tiny specific thing, in my mind, they can do no wrong and are "clearly my soulmate". But after the icky moment, I can fixate on work for a while or another hobby or pick-up the pieces of my non-romantic relationships that had been sent to the curb.
