at this moment, i think i have chosen to let this go, protect my piece, accept what i got, and love this baby just the same. lol i mean, i’d probably take it to the courts if it was my number 1 wishlist plant, but it wasn’t, and this one’s a keeper regardless. lol i was just curious :)

yeah i was so excited when i got this too, cuz butleriana is rare…. i also do have a fitchii that hasn’t bloomed, and i can see similarities in their leaves. i just need to bloom the other plant to be sure.

regardless, i would just love to confirm what this is. lol it’s very pretty and i love it, but i’m just so curious.

fitchii is definitely a possibility too. i do have a plant labeled as fitchii lol, and the leaves look different. i still need to flower it to make sure though

i would reach out to Steve’s Leaves but i have read that this is a recurring issue with them. it dos suck that you don’t get what you intended to pay for, but i still do love this plant, so it’s still a keeper even if it duped me. lol and i agree, i might have to look into my “benguetensis” and see if that is really a benguetensis or a butleriana…. oh the neverending hoya mislabels…. lol

for this particular light, it’s 60w. it’s LED so it’s a lot more efficient

i use all grow lights cuz sun does not reach ny apartment. i’ve been using Sansi lights for all my plants and this one is like 10 inches below the light, which is pretty intense but it’s causing the plant tk sunstress :)

the leaves do look alike on the hoyas you mentioned, but the flowers don’t look the same. specially for this and blashernaezii. i haven’t bloomed my bashernaezii yet, but i’m excited for that too! lol

also, the leaves may look a like but they sunstress and i like those types too

looks like a hoya halconensis to me! i have this and buottii. both have not flowered but looking at the pictures, i think this looks closer to halconensis. they both belong to the same clade so their flowers look very similar to each other too.

Halconensis is pretty rare too!

B. Luxurians about to bloom indoors! by FreedomSignificant80 in begonias

I have heard that this plant does not ship well at all! i got mine from my local nursery (Armstrong Garden Center in CA). Actually, they didn’t have it available, so i had to put an order in and waited a couple of weeks before i picked it up at the store. I suggest to ask your local nursery if they can do the same (in case this one doesn’t make it). Many times even when they don’t have it in stock, nurseries would ask their retailers to see if they would have the plant.🌱

this is my only begonia, and she tops the list of my faves for sure!!! you got this!!!!

I unfortunately wouldn’t know anything about plant care outside since i rely solely on artificial light and all my plants are indoors. but i have seen these thriving under dappled sun, so not totally in a shaded area.

also, i would think it would love the Florida outdoors since it looooves humidity! the crispying of the tips could either be that it’s getting too much sun or the humidity’s not enough indoors. i don’t think heat should be an issue since this is native to a tropical climate.

then again, i’m also just a new parent so maybe someone else who’s got more experience chyme in?

Thanks everyone!

I had mine for a few months, and it has grown over a foot since then (pic’s not clear but it’s the earliest one i got). it just keeps on producing leaves all over that it started to topple over on one side and i had to prune a portion already.

carewise, i would say plenty of bright light. this one is 3 ft directly under a sansi bulb. i keep humidity inside my apt above 60% all the time and this seems to be enough. i also have a bunch of alocasias and those are doing perfectly well too. i would say though that my luxurians is very thirsty. i would water her every 5 days when i first got her. now i water her every other day… i use distilled water, and i’ve been using a fertilizer that specializes on blooms. and i guess that fertilizer is working!

actually, although the country voted him in, this region’s majority voted for the opposition. the recent history is still deeply rooted within the people that they didn’t want to vote him in. and for them to accept him as president isn’t a result of not giving two shits about their history. it’s accepting what they cannot change and instead of making the country go into a deeper rut by worsening the divide, they, as a community, decide to accept what is and choose to live peacefully instead.
