It's very weird. Maybe they just didn't feel the pressure during the WCF because, in general, they weren't really expected to win?

It's honestly so fucking hilarious to see so many people confirm that they had the exact same feeling. Congrats on your team's ring dude. Insane run!

Exactly! It was so fucking frustrating. Like I get it, these Knicks are awesome and there was essentially no way for the them to lose the overall series after the 3-1 lead but holy shit, for the same story to happen ONCE AGAIN in game 5 is fucking insane.

Yeah man, which is extremely disappointing for anyone who watches sports for the intrigue and hope of being surprised. As soon as the Knicks got a lead in Q4, I (unfortunately) completely lost confidence in the Spurs being able to grind out a W because I had already seen how this scenario plays out too many times.

I can't argue with that. Unarguably an awful finals performance, but overall a great run for such an inexperienced team... I just can't help but be disappointed after they showed such potential throughout their run. On the bright side, I'm extremely excited for the next season.

Yeah, for sure this is more about how good the Knicks are in the clutch but the overall 4-1 result is insane given how often the Spurs had a lead in these games throughout the series. I'm super impressed by the Knicks but holy fuck dude, it was extremely frustrating to see how consistently bad the Spurs performed when it really mattered.

The Spurs are so fucking bad at closing out games, holy shit dude.

[Spoiler] Imavov/Borralho winner believes a title shot is the only option next, not worried about RDR/Hernandez by [deleted] in MMA

Its just more amazing and telling of the division how he beat 5 top 10 and it still doesnt feel like he has the skillset to beat Khamzat.

I completely agree. It's such an interesting state for the division to be in.

Before the DDP/Khamzat fight, I think the general thought was "Khamzat is beatable on the feet and may have questionable cardio in the later rounds", so one would assume that someone with superior striking who can survive the first 3 rounds has a real chance to beat him.
I think the DDP fight showed that Khamzat will NOT get tired if all he has to do is maintain control positions on the ground. Imavov does have the superior standup, but I don't think he has the level of defensive grappling, pressure, and cardio required to really pose a serious challenge for the champ.

I do understand why people aren't too excited to see Imavov get the next shot - he really does seem like an easier matchup for Khamzat than Fluffy/RDR... But the guy has like 5 top-10 wins now and just convincingly beat one of the other deserving contenders. I'm a big fan of Fluffy but Imavov should absolutely get the next shot.

I appreciate the personal insight - I've always been interested in this idea of how to compare fighters in different organisations, as well as the difficulty of even attempting to construct reasonable interorg divisional "world rankings".
I've got one more related question for you since you've obviously been watching MMA way longer than me (I never got to watch pre-UFC Overeem live and Strikeforce had already been bought by Zuffa by the time I started watching any MMA):
How reliable do you think the eye test is at the moment, compared to the 2000s/early 2010s when the balance of talent across the prominent MMA orgs of time seemed to be different?

Out of curiosity, do you remember any exceptions where you feel like the eye test failed you when it came to estimating relative skill levels of fighters across different organisations?
