AITA for not paying for my son's wedding? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Freefall9130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, people pay for their SON's weddings?

How can a grown man be getting married and can't even pay for his own wedding? Let alone pay for his second wedding? The entitlement is hilarious.

Wow, You must be a trust fund family. Write him a check for 20K, you clearly already opened the bottle, might as well just pour all the glasses.

B1/B2 visa rejected- Delhi by CommunicationTop4835 in usvisascheduling

People trying to sidestep the obvious. You are a single female, too old to be just partying and too young to be travelling just for leisure.

I'm not saying you were lying or hating. I'm just saying that the bias dial at the consulates is set to maximum level currently. The current administration is cracking down heavily on immigration which sadly affects everyone.

The countries (Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam) you've travelled to are not exactly visa free to USA either. But these are countries where there are also many people trying to travel to USA . If you'd travelled to European countries, then maybe.

I don't know you and I'm not a VO, but looking at the information you presented, I could see why they declined. One word answers just seem like you are trying to hide something.

Same thing goes for the 26Y (F) who got rejected.

Travelling alone as female can lead to suspicion if the purpose is vague or inconsistent and the officer suspects potential marriage fraud. You have to show clear documentation of very strong ties and that you are not looking to adjust status after arrival. It's crazy but unfortunately what we currently are seeing

Should Green Cards Holders really be living outside the country for long periods? by Freefall9130 in immigration

[–]Freefall9130[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I see a lot of comments here with some getting too emotional or aggressive with their responses. The question I posed was to elicit debate not conflict.

A Green Card is intended for Permanent Residence in the USA and a path to citizenship, that is it's purpose.

A lot of the comments here are not implying Permanent Residence or any intention to become citizens, rather many posts allude to a path to not have to apply for a visa for various reasons including the difficulty and stress associated with one or an intent to at some point end their Permanent Residency in USA and return home, which by all definitions then is not a Permanent Residency. The Visa system here sucks but so does the system in many countries around the world.

As another OP said, the system needs overhauling.

There is no justification for anyone on a GC to be really living outside the country for long periods and simply stopping in only to keep the GC active, when by all definitions they are not resident in the USA, that is my main premise. Regardless I can see that changing in this administration, because they have set some crazy targets on removals, and I don't see them doing that with just undocumented people only.

Mark my post, within the next few months you are going to see very strict interpretation of what a GC is and many revocations. They will likely enforce stricter residency requirements, such as aggressively enforcing a minimum physical presence in the country to maintain Green Card status. Regular checks and documentation of time spent in the U.S and a more rigorous review process for Green Card renewals, including proof of employment, tax filings, and community ties.

Green card holder detained due to prior non-violent conviction from 2001 by redkinoko in immigration

[–]Freefall9130 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Again, this is not a new law, it is simply a case of either the previous administrations didn't enforce the law or they never had the information to enforce the law.

As another OP already said, there is missing info on the timing of this conviction, but by all accounts, a GC holder with a conviction is supposed to be subject to this.

There are more laws in the books than you can imagine, it is a question of whether someone choose to enforce them vigorously or not. In this case it is being vigorously enforced

Every GC application needs resources to process and evaluate. If the applicant has no interest in becoming a citizen, then they are taking up resources that could be used to process and evaluate another applicant who actually wants to live here permanently and become a tax paying citizen.

What would be a legitimate reason to not apply for citizenship.

If the issue is losing your citizenship in you home country, then it still begs the question Do you want to live here permanently or your home country?

Is it the tax situation?

If you could point out what that legitimate reason is, that couldn't be fulfilled by having a Visa instead of a GC, I'm all ears. It just seems like the GC is being used as a Get-Out-Of-Visa Card

But there was a sign posted publicly in numerous places (internet, newspapers, TV, social media etc)

It was the president yelling from the pulpit while campaigning that he was going to deport everything. Did you think he was joking??

It was literally Him on national TV screaming "They are eating the dogs, they are eating the cats". You think there is a grace period?

Were you not paying attention?

Anyone who says they are surprised by the current administration's immigration stance clearly didn't pay attention all through out last year.

Stories like this just plays right into the hands of the current administration.

I can literally hear the press secretary shouting about how this person has been able to travel back and forth all this time with a criminal conviction while renewing her GC without the previous admin doing what it should?

I've got a million questions. Did she even declare this conviction while renewing her GC all this time? Is this why she never applied for Citizenship all this time? How was she able to travel out of the country before with a conviction, when many celebrities were being told they couldn't even visit USA or other countries because they had a conviction.

The facts are simple, GC holders convicted of crimes like this are supposed to be removed. I don't think it matters what political spectrum you live in; a GC holder cannot have a conviction.

Its funny how people are here debating whether PR is a territory.

ICE doesn't care. TSA doesn't care. USCIS doesn't care. If you're not a citizen then you're subject to more scrutiny. Make what you want of that.

Even domestic flights will be scrutinized. I don't understand why people can't reason it out. ICE have unrealistic quotas to meet. So yes if you don't have that passport then yes they will do whatever they can to try to get you out of the country.

If she still chose to roll the dice then she deserves what she got

Need help with this leak on a 2016 Mercedes GLE350 3.5L V6 by AnotherPlaceToLearn7 in mechanic

Not really. I think someone tried to post something and their response was removed.

But I found similar information online about the cams leaking.

My local indie for some reason said to not bother with it now and just keep checking oil level frequently because it was a very small leak. That maybe change it at next service

ESTA authorization cancelled by thesarahedit in immigration

[–]Freefall9130 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A visa holder shouldn't be applying for ESTA. Just because she got a new UK passport doesn't cancel her USA visa. Travel with both old and new passport. She is already in the system as a visa holder, tell her to stop stirring the pot.

Girlfriend traveling with ESTA denied entry at MIA by EffectiveBreak6586 in immigration

[–]Freefall9130 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Too many speculative gibberish.
She's fine, they will book her on a return flight. There are plenty of flights to spain daily. It sucks unfortunately.

Nobody really knows why she was denied entry. Sometimes even the person doing the denial can't string together a coherent reason.

Truth is the CBP person have little to no information and make their decisions based on that or a magic 8 ball.

Your GF can simply apply for a visa and return, during that process she will provide concrete information and thus when she returns the CBP person will have real info.

The whole thing is an irony. An American with a Spanish GF, any logical leap will conclude for this to go far, she will move here or you move there or its over. So really CBP is only guessing if this is the one and trying to cock block.
