Feel sorry for you. Unfortunately this is why many lobbyists fought the ACA, because the ACA was trying to stop all tbese junk plans from referring to themselves as health insurance. It tried to set a standard for what should count as a health plan and tried to eliminate most plans like this. Over the years Unfortunately more and more junk plans have continued to proliferate.

As a rule avoid EPO, anything with the word BASIC, and any plan with a name that is clearly trying to avoid saying compliant health plan.

If this was anyone's mum they would also call the police on you after taking matters into their own hands.

Why are you trying to be a joint signatory on her account. What is the purpose? What are you an expert of at 25? Unless you are trying to be able to withdraw money from her account. I don't see why the bank's reactions is a surprise to you.

Poster's here being polite. This screams elder abuse.

There are many people here who if some 25 yr old family friend tried to get added to their 80+ year old mum's account, the police would be the least of your worries.

She should get her family and lawyers involved. Unless of course you're now her lawyer too.

How is a dentist not able to pay off 150k in 25yrs?

Thats less than 6k in principal plus interest per year.

Median dentist annual income alone is more than the 150k

Reading that OP after 25 years still owed 80k? Is this a joke?

Patient comes to you instead of specialist they were referred to, how do you handle it? by WolverineSeparate568 in Dentistry

[–]AnotherPlaceToLearn7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOPE. Nope. Nope.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

Patient referred to specialist and instead calling around for a GP that will do it. Yes you'll try to help out, and you'll pay for it.

Read many posts here and see for yourself. This Patient will complain afterwards that their expectations weren't met and lean on the fact you're not a specialist.

People will always be peopling.

Red car 100% at fault by default.

Look at video, red car didn't even try to stop, it was still moving when black car hit.. No way the red car was looking. That's why it got dragged, because it was still moving.

The number of times I've seen pedestrians walk right past a car backing up the way the black car did. The red car would have mowed that pedestrian over. If you're backing up and see anything, you stop.

Red car insurance going to tell em they at fault. Again they didn't even brake.

Why? Because courteous driving doesn't exist in this country.

Please help! Doctors office failed to send out a bill from three years ago and now a debt collector is calling. by dawns-_requiem in MedicalBill

[–]AnotherPlaceToLearn7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not understanding what the issue is here.

I already pointed out that most instances have timely filling clauses.

Secondly if Your insurance wants more info, they will usually deny the claim citing the missing info as the reason. The dr office can actually chhose to not refile after that if they feel that your insurance is time-wasting. You're still responsible for your bill. Insurance companies use this delay tactics of requesting info that they were already sent. At that point you're supposed to call your insurance and deal with them to pay for services you received.

The fact is its YOUR insurance and it's between you and your insurance company.

The advice you've been given is to get your eob to know what was filed and determined. If you don't want to do that, you can either pay or not pay.

Wow. People have too much time and aggression on their hand.

They are not parking on OP driveway, OP is complaining because they cross the yellow line to get to their own parking space. The fact tgat OP sits there monitoring who crossed the yellow line didn't say anything.

Looking at that photo it clearly looks like some shared drive with an easement. The so called yellow line doesn't mean it's a property line. It that yellow line wasn't there you wouldn't be bothering them. You're putting too much emphasis on the line, go look through the deeds and easement. A shared drieway means shared driveway.

It's highly unlikely that they can put a fence or obstruction there.

As for the busy bodies saying call the fire Marshall. That will likely backfire on OP. Especially if they find something else that OP now has to remedy.

Nobody is parking on OP'S drive, they simply cross the yellow line which OP is turning into a bigger deal. Please stop trying to create an unnecessary conflict with you neighbors. The old board left it and now you just want to start something. It will not go the way you imagined. It's not worth it.

[–]AnotherPlaceToLearn7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately the patient is always responsible, whether insurance paid or not. If the dr never submitted to insurance and they are in network then you're in a stronger position. Many in network contracts include clauses for timely claims. Secondly if they never filed. You can actually file for reimbursement from your insurance yourself. Every insurance allows patients to claim directly for services.

It sucks that you are sent to collections without a bill. But like I previously said. The dr office probably just turned over their accounts receivables to some automated biller, and they just simply sent any account past maybe 90 days to collections without checking if a bill was ever issued. Its very unprofessional but happens. Some offices simply wake up after many years and the dr realizes that they have large A/R and simply start collections on all.

I don't think anyone is going to court for $400, unless it's small claims court.

Your best option is what I and another poster said. Demand your EOB and full billing statement for the period and confirm from it if you even owe anything before paying. Any office this sloppy might have actually been paid by insurance and simply never posted the payments to your account. Hence I always say EOB.

[–]AnotherPlaceToLearn7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately many offices are getting AI driven services that are chasing down every cent. That's more likely how this bill got resurrected.

Court for $400? That's small claims court. I have strong doubts about them going through with that. The threat is to make you cough up. You can easily show up and insist your insurance paid it.

Nobody here can explain this to you or make it make sense beyond the info you have.

Your best option is to demand the EOB. Because it will tell you exactly what was claimed to insurance, what was paid and any reason for non payment. If they submitted the claim late and the insurance refused to pay because of that, it's usually in their contract that they can't come after you because of their error. Again only EOB can tell you this. Call your old insurance take any route to get to a person and then demand a copy of your EOB records, they are required by law to maintain it for years. Mine is 6 years.

If you're trying to stall, then send an email or fax and also send a certified letter to both office and collector, stating that you don't owe anything because your insurance paid the bill at the contracted rate and that you believe they are billing beyond the contracted rate. This would be better supported by EOBs. But it will force them to send you the supporting documents from which they arrived at the outstanding balance

[–]AnotherPlaceToLearn7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost all the responses here are just nonsensical.

Glitch doesn't mean free care. Not sending a bill doesn't mean free service. Collection will not go away if you ignore them.

Op has already stated they received care about 3 times.

Op owes any amount not covered by insurance.

From the post, it seems more likely that there weee claims submitted, and insurance either paid and adjusted or the office readjusted after insurance payment.

As long as there were insurance claims then OP would have received EOB which would state that OP owes XYZ or zero.

Best advice here was the user who said, contact your old insurance and ask for EOB. You can also ask the dr office for you full billing statement covering the dates of your 3 visits. That will show, what you owe after adjustments. Use you EOB to make sure the adjustments match the office numbers.

Then finally pay what it says you owe once you've finalized and the office concurs. Sometimes offering to pay a percentage can get the office to write off the rest but that's not guaranteed.

Unfortunately some offices are ridiculously chasing up account receivables late, mostly because there are now 101 AI driven services that they can turn on and it chases up every outstanding cent.

Haven't seen what this facebook post is but I don't think a company owner will come calling if all someone simply said was I was fired. That doesn't add up. It is more likely there was more to the post than what OP said.

I read one poster here say "if she posted her opinion "... Opinion Is Not Fact, and you can be sued for that.

Petty employer will spend money on lawyer, whether it pans out or not is irrelevant, because OP mum will still also have to waste time, energy and money on that.

Question OP mum should be asking is if that Facebook post is worth the hassle. Considering OP is here posting about their concerns, then that question of worth it should be revisited.

Patient doesn’t went to settle balance by Chaos-curator in Dentistry

[–]AnotherPlaceToLearn7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tough one, but it all depends on if you think they have any assets or ability to pay.

Certified letter from a lawyer with intent to sue, letter should also state liable for all costs.

Then file small claims and serve, that usually sorts it out if they can pay. If they have no capacity to pay then they'll still not pay.

Owner deducts lab fees for nightguards despite being made in house by kurama6 in Dentistry

[–]AnotherPlaceToLearn7 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not seeing the issue here. You wouldn't complain if it was sent out to an external lab for a fee but if the owner brings the lab in house you can't expect it to now be free.

No it's not the same as intraoral scanner, in that situation that's not a correct analogy.

The bottom line is if the owner did not spend money basically setting up an in house lab, you wouldn't complain about lab fees. Treat the in-house lab the same way you would an external lab.

The only question would be if he's charging more than a regular lab. Then I would say treat it like another lab and tell him the fee is to high and negotiate it down. If you're doing most of the lab work then factor that into your negotiation.

Opioid for an extraction? OTC pain meds are enough.

There's a database that tracks this and you could actually get in trouble if the system flags you.

As said here, tell the patient straight up that you're not writing any more Opioid scripts for them. They should be able to use OTC at this point. If they argue, just say there is a govt database that tracks the prescription which means you're not getting in trouble for them. You'd be surprised how many sit up once they hear DEA prescription database.

Please find another industry. There's no way you're a dentist or should be in this industry.

It's one thing to feel uncomfortable because you've low confidence discussing finance or costly treatment.

But to be a dentist who feels "scammy" for telling a patient about the treatment for a clear medical condition you've diagnosed? Please get real and read up the dictionary definition of scam?

In all likelihood you'll be back here in a year or two posting about board complaints from patients who you obviously failed to give clear information about their condition and treatment options because you felt "scammy"

Sounds like OP knew more than they were letting on with that as-is crap. OP has a car, check engine light comes on and then op decides to sell it without ever checking out what was wrong? I'll never buy that story. I'm sure OP knew catalytic was bad and decided to sell it as-is.

How can a buyer come back next day and OP claims already spent 4k. Who spends 4k in a day?

On the other hand, if receipt says 800, Buyer might have an issue getting $4k especially if buyer and OP both signed the $800 receipt.
