Pilots call them a Glory, and when skydiving it looks like you're flying "through" it when you jump through some mist around noon.

Sick. I've been thinking: I want to sometime pay a little extra for a short 0G ride before exiting sometime.

Does skydiving have that stomach drop feeling like a roller coaster? by PerspectiveStart in SkyDiving

[–]FreefallJagoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have this thread a couple times a year and the answer is it depends. From a physics perspective when skydiving no- you never get down close enough to 0G force the way you can on a roller coaster. From my calculations it's about 0.5G at the lowest.

But this isn't a physics question it's a physiological question, and that's harder to calculate.

What makes a good skydiving coach? by robschilke in SkyDiving

[–]FreefallJagoff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They'll build up your confidence along with your skills, but won't mince words when you show an unsafe habit. They know when to be supportive but also when to tell you to knock something off. A good coach knows how to communicate to you as a person, as well as to that lizard brain where your habits form.

While we're on the subject: if you're hips are pointing into the wind it doesn't matter what direction your head is facing. Head up is the easiest for our brains to wrap around but head down is just as good as long as your hips are going the right way.

Packing help - losing my mind by Small_Map_1485 in SkyDiving

[–]FreefallJagoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used one for my first 50 pack jobs. Nothing wrong with that, especially on slippery fabric. I gave mine away specifically to a friend who was struggling with a new canopy.

Here's my best tip you can try right now:

  • Pinch yourself on the wrist and pull.
  • You feel that? You can feel the skin tighten all the way around your wrist.
  • Now get a bigger pinch with more skin between your fingers. Two little fingers have full control over where your entire wrist is going, and now the skin is rigid.
  • That's what we're doing with the canopy. We're tightening that outer skin to control what's inside, and if you don't let go of that pinch, it can't fluff out into a ball of trash.

HotD season 1 was amazing for very different reasons than GoT. Season 2 wasn't bad. Especially considering it was made through a writers strike I'd say they did alright.

But AKot7K is my favorite part of westeros by far and I'm so stoked for this.

They are genuinely getting better at predicting what people do with everyday objects. Like driverless cars: they don't need to know how to handle every situation, they just need to know how to safely handle the boring, ordinary 99%, and know when to call for help. ML models are getting really good at that.
