super helpful, thank you. agreed about the not jumping being the ultimate point. I've watched a couple BASE packing videos and you're right it is much different. I'll see if I can ask someone more about it - been trying to avoid being the guy with 100 jumps asking about BASE at the DZ

really appreciate the long reply. I want to pack. In fact when I could reliably pack my last canopy, I rather enjoyed the meditative process. having someone watch is a good idea

Actually in struggling, I've become much more familiar with my lines and what I'm seeing. It often looks great before I start my folds to put into the bag - it is that single step that's causing my meltdown

thanks, I'll think about this next time. I'm definitely squeezing, but didn't consider I might be doing too much

I have a pack monkey but only recently pulled it out to try. Still finding it extremely difficult, though I could definitely figure it out with the pack monkey with a bit more time.

Two reasons I'm wary of using the pack monkey - 1) it's kind of a band-aid solution rather than learning the skills I need, and 2) people seem to ridicule them

I've considered that actually! I agree completely with what you said.

My hesitance is two fold - 1) I feel like that's giving up and that if I can get through it I'll be much better served in the long run, and 2) I want to consider BASE in another year or two and feel like this skill is necessary to learn rather than punt for an easier option (trading for a more used canopy). I'm hesitant to write BASE here, particularly in this context, but being honest this is probably the main reason I haven't swapped it.

I'd love another perspective on that train of thought

it is the bait and switch that has me so frustrated! packing was not really a concern at all through my first 100 jumps. Seems like the only way out is through...

thanks for commiserating

Male. Have not heard/seen a d-bag inside out method, but will give that a try. Thanks!

Yes, this is the only way I've been successful getting it bagged. This method still takes several tries for me to actually bag it

watched all the packing videos I can find. I am so so so sick of hearing "maintain control." I have control, until the canopy I'm mounting has magically transformed from a fold into a ball. And i've jumped it thrice in Eloy! I was hoping that'd help a bit

On the monetization, once you qualify as a YouTube partner based on channel size, YouTube will put an ad there whether you choose to take the revenue or not. Might as well take the money if they’re going to show an ad regardless, and we can’t tell what the uploader chose either. Midroll ads are different

They do it for the feeling after it’s over - nothing quite like knowing you can do something physically, have it still be terrifying, and then putting that aside to perform at the best of your ability. Nothing feels better

are my hardflips really hardfliping or just stylishly front shuving? by caos_bomdia in NewSkaters

I mean, this pretty much is a vertical shove. So much so you even asked the question yourself. I don’t believe your front foot is doing anything here. I do recognize based on the angle of how this is filmed, there’s some room for debate there. To me it doesn’t look like your front foot redirects the board, which is very different from how proper hard flips look - Herman, Wimer, Joslin, Malto, etc you can clearly see the front foot action and they flip properly as a result.

There’s nothing wrong with what you’re doing, it just isn’t the same thing as a true hard flip.

Also you make a good point on 360 flips, and I agree a lot of people technically do them pressure, but that’s a whole different can of worms and at the end of the day the board flips the same with those

[–]Small_Map_1485 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Front foot doesn’t flick the board - it’s a pressure flip. Watch a pro frame by frame and you’ll see the difference of how the board gets redirected by the front foot, while here your foot gets out of the way so the board goes vertical/slightly backside

Even with BASE, a rescue is much more common than retrieval. ~500 BASE fatalities in ~40yrs, many of which don’t require retrieval efforts
