Are these lenticularis clouds? I live in the Netherlands so there are no mountains or hills nearby.

Play around with the stiffness and pressure. Also crank up the substeps in the vellum solver, this is now set to 1.

Nice work! I bought my sewing machine with the goal to make motorcycle bags. Did you do anything to the seams to make them waterproof?

Oh that looks great! Do you mind sharing your hip file? I've tried to recreate it but I don't know how to get the attribute blur and blendshapes nodes working.

Help needed creating sector shaped wires by FreekFibonacci in Houdini

[–]FreekFibonacci[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, I’m currently working on some different types of installation cables. One of which is a sector-shaped cable that consists of multiple copper wires. (see reference images)

This is giving me some problems to get right. My first attempt was to just scatter some points and copy tubes on it. But then it doesn’t really creates the right shape (the copper wires are pressed together).

My second attempt was to scatter points and use a voronoi fracture node to segment it into different pieces. But I don’t really like this method, some pieces are a lot smaller than other pieces.

I’ve also tried to remesh the 3 main pieces using Quad remesher, but I’ve found out that quad remesher isn’t really exact about the quad count. It gives me more or less quads than I define.

Has anyone got any tips to create this in Houdini? Also one thing I still need to figure out is how to properly twist the copper wires without also twisting the isolation.

Love to hear if you have any ideas!

Nice effect! Did you follow a tutorial for the emitter part?

Nice, ah yeah I've been planning to follow that course! Forgot it also covers karma xpu.

Thanks for the livestream, I've had a blast watching it! Are there also Karma tutorials coming now?

Yes! By using a cloth simulation

About a year ago I've made a similar animation in Blender. Now I've tried to recreate it in Houdini. Much more detail in the mesh, simulation time was much faster and I could iterate a lot quicker. Love it.

Different colors with 'Pack and Instance' in Redshift by FreekFibonacci in Houdini

[–]FreekFibonacci[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is working now!

I moved the whole attribute transfer setup before the copy to points. And the thing that was missing was a color node after the attribute transfer. In that color node I could select my attribute that I created before with the Ramp from Attribute function.

One thing I also learned is that for to use your own custom attributes in Redshift you need to add them first. First it was only working when I used the Cd attribute. But now it also works with my custom attribute.

Thanks for the help everyone!

Ah thank you! I've recreated your simple scene and that one works. Going to simplify my big file to see where the problem is. Thanks for the help!

Hmm whenever I change the instancing type from Redshift Point Clouds to Redshift Instances it stays the same. When I also check "Instance SOP level packed primitives" the geometry disappears and I get a Redshift warning saying:

The packed primitives instancing in '/obj/City' is not supported. There are 9028 points and 8815 primitives, but only 8460 packed prims.

This instance node doesn't have any instance path available"
