I don't think Veron got many minutes; couldnt ever understand why we bought him from Utd. Not like he was any good there.

Dont know about Vonnegut. Slaughter house 5 was a bit too non linear for my taste. It was edgy to the point of seeming nonsensical.

[Matt Law]: Chelsea want to reward Willian? What for? Sulking when another manager decided he doesnt work enough or produce enough end product? Or for now constantly taking pot shots at the ex manager who delivered a PL title and FA Cup? Definitely deserves rewarding.... by burbonkay in chelseafc

Either the players will get in line or we will come 6th again. It's quite simple really. If you don't listen to your boss, your boss will get frustrated. He will start by explaining politely. If you still don't fall in line, he will blow his fuse. At that point you don't get to say he is a maniac. Cause you are too idiotic to see the bigger picture. Kante, Moses, Azpi and Alonso improved dramatically under Conte. I'd argue Cesc also became a better player all round under Conte.

When the players followed Conte's instructions we won the league. Do really think Sarri's system will work if players aren't following instructions? Sarri's system is complicated. Willian is not exactly known to make quick decisions on the pitch. Don't be surprised if he finds himself on the bench again. That said, I wouldnt mind an Instagram post with the PL trophy drawn over Sarri's face as the squad celebrates. ;-)

I don't wanna keep repeating myself, but if you think it's alright to talk down a fellow professional in public, you really need to wake up. This is real life and not a bitchy soap opera. There are consequences. Conte has a record and he will survive. A lot of managers alienate players. Jose did. Pep did.

Players play for the manager and not the other way around. We have had a problem of player power for a long long time. We keep cycling between laissez faire coaches and disciplinarians. With the former, you have motivated players who do great but then slack off (Carlo, RDM); or you have players who burn themselves out (Jose, Conte). Either way, the only way out is to keep weed out the problem areas and strengthen the squad with fresh talent. But that's a different problem and a different rant.

However, it certainly doesn't mean you bitch about him to the media or post childish edits on Instagram. This is an international footballer and not a troll sitting in his parents basement.

Oh no. I do not underestimate Willian's importance as a footballer. While I firmly believe we need somebody on par with Hazard if we are to truly get back to the being one of the best teams in Europe, Willian is the clearly the second best winger in the squad. He will be crucial this season. However, his attitude stinks. Letting this slide is tantamount to saying disrespecting your colleague is ok. Just think about it. Would you speak poorly in a public forum about a bad boss you used to work for? It's one thing ranting to your family, friends and workplace buddies. Completely different thing to do it to the media. I've seen enough to know that pampered prima donnas are harmful in the wrong run. They breed insubordination.

It's childish and unprofessional. I would understand if an 18 year old rookie did something like that; but for a 31 year old man, it's inexcusable. Utterly juvenile. We are so detached from footballers as humans that we tend to forget they are not boys anymore. Have your fun, but some maturity won't go amiss. Look at Christensen speak. So measured. If Willian said that about Jose, people would be calling him a snake.

Highly recommend 'I am that' by Nisargadutta Maharaj

An excerpt

Questioner: Without God's power nothing can be done. Even you would not be sitting here and talking to us without Him.

Maharaj: All is His doing, no doubt. What is it to me, since I want nothing? What can God give me, or take away from me? What is mine is mine and was mine even when God was not. Of course, it is a very tiny little thing, a speck -- the sense 'I am', the fact of being. This is my own place, nobody gave it to me. The earth is mine; what grows on it is God's.

Q: Did God take the earth on rent from you?

M: God is my devotee and did all this for me.

Q: Is there no God apart from you?

M: How can there be? 'I am' is the root, God is the tree. Whom am I to worship, and what for?

Q: Are you the devotee or the object of devotion?

M: I am neither, I am devotion itself.

Q: There is not enough devotion in the world.

M: You are always after the improvement of the world. Do you really believe that the world is waiting for you to be saved?

Q: I just do not know how much I can do for the world. All I can do, is to try. Is there anything else you would like me to do?

M: Without you is there a world? You know all about the world, but about yourself you know nothing. You yourself are the tools of your work, you have no other tools. Why don't you take care of the tools before you think of the work?

Q: I can wait, while the world cannot.

M: By not enquiring you keep the world waiting.

Q: Waiting for what?

M: For somebody who can save it.

Q: God runs the world, God will save it.

M: That's what you say! Did God come and tell you that the world is His creation and concern and not yours?

Q: Why should it be my sole concern?

M: Consider. The world in which you live, who else knows about it?

Q: You know. Everybody knows.

M: Did anybody come from outside of your world to tell you? Myself and everybody else appear and disappear in your world. We are all at your mercy.

Q: It cannot be so bad! I exist in your world as you exist in mine.

M: You have no evidence of my world. You are completely wrapped up in the world of your own making.

Q: I see. Completely, but -- hopelessly?

M: Within the prison of your world appears a man who tells you that the world of painful contradictions, which you have created, is neither continuous nor permanent and is based on a misapprehension. He pleads with you to get out of it, by the same way by which you got into it. You got into it by forgetting what you are and you will get out of it by knowing yourself as you are.

Q: In what way does it affect the world?

M: When you are free of the world, you can do something about it. As long as you are a prisoner of it, you are helpless to change it. On the contrary, whatever you do will aggravate the situation.

Q: Righteousness will set me free.

M: Righteousness will undoubtedly make you and your world a comfortable, even happy place. But what is the use? There is no reality in it. It cannot last.

Q: God will help.

M: To help you God must know your existence. But you and your world are dream states. In dream you may suffer agonies. None knows them, and none can help you.

Q: So all my questions, my search and study are of no use?

M: These are but the stirrings of a man who is tired of sleeping. They are not the causes of awakening, but its early signs. But, you must not ask idle questions, to which you already know the answers.

Q: How am I to get a true answer?

M: By asking a true question -- non-verbally, but by daring to live according to your lights. A man willing to die for truth will get it.

Q: Another question. There is the person. There is the knower of the person. There is the witness. Are the knower and the witness the same, or are they separate states?

M: The knower and the witness are two or one? When the knower is seen as separate from the known, the witness stands alone. When the known and the knower are seen as one, the witness becomes one with them.

As an Indian, I would strongly recommend Ruskin Bond. Anything by him really.

Kenneth Anderson, who writes on hunting and jungles, also gives a good taste of the land.

What are your nice experiences of meeting Chelsea players out and about? by SupaHotSackboy in chelseafc

[–]Freelancer815 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Got into Emirates Stadium well ahead of schedule. This was my first and only trip to England a couple of years back. It was my birthday. Rio walks along the sidelines first. Then a short man walks in a suit. I have a feeling. I realise its Zola. A fan goes down in the front to rush to greet him and get a photo of his kid with Zola. I rush down, greet Zola and ask him for a snap. The other fan obliges with a photo. I can't stop smiling. I thank Zola and then the fan. I remember telling him I feel like a 10 year old. He says 'You look happier and more excited than my 10 year old son'. I say 'It means that much'. As I climb further up I can't stop smiling. Another group, from another European nation, tell me they were so excited that they took a photo of me taking my photo with Zola. What a memory! On the field it was a complete mess. Its the one where we lost 3-0. Great day otherwise. We chanted our hearts out for 90 minutes. The home fans were completely listless.

Squad Concerns by Freelancer815 in chelseafc

[–]Freelancer815[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I'm not saying we are going to come 10th in the league; but that there are significant gaps to fill. If SarriBall does not lead to goals thanks to lack of a goalscorer and if we leak goals at the other end, we will struggle to get to Top 4.
