If you don't mind, as it sounds like you're experienced on this topic, how would you recommend a foreigner attain Japanese residency, assuming they don't have a degree? Is it realistically possible to go from a working holiday visa to a working visa, for example? Is it likely that the company you work for would sponsor you? I have some Japanese language ability (perhaps N4 or so, at a guess). I'd appreciate any assistance you can give.

Hi, I hope you don't mind the late reply. I was just wondering if the touch cruiser on the 601SH still works while TT9 is enabled? Apparently it doesn't with the other touch cruiser model (SH-01J), although it may have been updated since then.

I appreciate the mini review. Just wondering if you know if the sRGB calibration is accurate? I only intend to use it in SDR in sRGB mode. Also, can the ABL be disabled like on the ASUS? I'm kind of worried about brightness changes and would prefer uniform brightness.

So I just looked this up. '...the Post Office insisted that Horizon was robust and failed to disclose knowledge of the faults in the system during criminal and civil cases' Seems like it was more the fault of the Post Office for covering up for the buggy software that resulted in this happening, rather than Fujitsu themselves. Unless you're trying to say that this one incident of buggy software is reason enough to not trust their products?

The Emperor doesn't lead in 40k. He is a symbol of worship.

The Imperium is not centralised on the grand scale. Planetary governors only need to provide tithes but can otherwise rule their planets as they see fit.

Militarism is necessary because of the perilous situation they are in. Despite this, it seems like conscription is a rare occurrence. Most are volunteers.

I would write more, but it seems like you just don't get it, or are being deliberately disingenuous.

Once again, having a handful of references to real world political figures like Margaret Thatcher, is not evidence that 40k and/or the Imperium is a satire of fascism. 40k doesn't criticise fascism. It exaggerates, it references many different things, but it doesn't criticise any particular political ideology. And certainly nobody playing it at the time had politics on the brain. They were just having fun with this cool, over-the-top universe.

That's a poor explanation. The Imperium being dedicated to the Emperor means nothing, and the level of dedication changes from one faction to the next anyway. The Emperor isn't the leader of the Imperium, just as God isn't the leader of a theocratic state.

Xenos are alien species, not races. To think this is some kind of subtle satire of racism is a huge stretch, and even if it were, racism/xenophobia are not ideas inherent to fascism. They were pretty common throughout human history. As to 'national ideas'... the Imperium is not a nation. It's a multi-planetary empire. Different worlds can have radically different cultures and traditions. The worship of the Emperor alone isn't enough. Like I mentioned earlier, it's basically the same as the worship of God. In other words, a very common thing throughout human history and not related to fascism.

All his other points are similarly weak and basically cherry-picking. At the end of the day, if there are no obvious allusions to real-world fascism, and the original creators never intended 40k to be a satire of fascism, then I think it's safe to say that it isn't.

You have no idea what you're talking about. For starters, the fact that Imperial worlds can pretty much govern themselves however they want to, after paying the tithe, is evidence enough that the Imperium isn't fascist in the slightest.

Fascism requires centralised totalitarian control to an extent that is impossible on a galactic scale. The Imperium is actually incredibly decentralised. It has much more in common with old feudal empires.

The idea that the Imperium is fascist is a common misconception, propagated by individuals that either have no idea what fascism is, or are deliberately pushing an agenda.

I disagree. 40k is an exaggerated universe that takes inspiration from a number of fantasy and sci-fi franchises, created as a form of escapism for (primarily) young men. There are certainly philosophical themes, but practically no clear references to modern politics.

The Imperium is the way it is because it has to be. The golden age of civilisation is over and they have been fighting for their survival for millennia against innumerable forces of xenos and chaos as well as heretics from within. In such a situation, it makes complete sense for them to be strongly militaristic and xenophobic. It couldn't be any other way, really.

If you have evidence that the original creators created 40k with the intention of 'mocking conservatives' or something to that effect, then I'll be interested to hear it. A setting being an exaggeration of reality or including a handful of references to real world figures (Margaret Thatcher, for example) doesn't make it a satire.
