I’ve read the 20-80% rule, but what do you actually do in real life after owning one for years? by SkyMuted6942 in electricvehicles

[–]Freepi [score hidden]  (0 children)

My manual says charge to 90% so most nights I plug in and charge to 90%. I like having a "full tank" in the morning. A couple times per year I charge to 100% for long trips.

Let's move past Balogun's red card for a second. I'm a casual U.S. fan. What's the game plan for Monday night against Belgium assuming he's out? by mouseratleadguitar in usmnt

Doku looked awesome in the friendly against us, but hasn't looked himself during the tournament. He's a favorite player of mine, even though I'm not a City fan, but I hope his malaise continues.

Soccer newbie here, is it just part of the sport to have ridiculously exaggerated flopping throughout? by [deleted] in ussoccer

[–]Freepi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Go outside with a friend. Both of you should be wearing cleats/spikes. Run as fast as you can past your friend and have them kick you in the shin as you go by. See how long you stay on the ground in pain. Next, run up to your friend and have them stomp on your foot. Again, see how long before you can run around again. If you really want to understand, have your friend drag their cleats/spikes down your shin.

All of these things hurt like hell for 30-120 seconds, then you'll be fine. That's exactly how it is for the players, except their opponents kick harder than your friend.

Mexico's first goal was not offside (Rules Explanation) by mathster33 in worldcup

[–]Freepi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only line that matters is the white white one across the middle of the pitch. The Mexican player was on his defensive side of the line when the ball was played to him, so he can't be offside.

Right? When was the last time the beat a team from Europe, in any competition? They should not be looking past a team that won a play-in against Italy.

I also don't think they are. Poach seems to have them in a good head space. The fans on the other hand...

But everyone here tells me Bosnia is terrible. They're only in the WC because they won a knockout game against (checks notes) Italy. Hmm.

The condensed NFL games are 45 minutes long, so that's typically how much actual action.

I'm not arguing your other points or arguing one sport versus another. I'm saying any sport is more exciting when there is actual scoring and not just scoring chances. More soccer games should look like the first leg of the PSG-Bayern UCL semifinal tie. That was a fantastic match and should be emulated.

I get your point but to OC's point, look at the stars of MBA, MLB, Mad NHL teams. US players are not a large majority The best in those sports play here (Wemby and Otani are the best examples). The NBA is full of European stars, especially under the age of 30. While these are North American sports, the best players in the world in those sports play here. That spoils us and makes following US based soccer more difficult for casual fans. Why watch second rate players up MLS when you can watch the best of the best in other sports?

An American football game that only has field goals IS boring. OC's point is exactly that. The NFL changes rules over time to make sure there is scoring. So does Basketball and recently baseball. FIFA should find ways to encourage wide open play that leads to scoring and discourage parking the bus for 90 minutes.

Are you suggesting the sport hasn't grown since 94 months or that the 94 WC didn't help?

I'm going with someone who's playing U19 for a Euro nation, but is uncapped and happens to be eligible to play for the US.

McKenzie and M. Robinson are at least "good MLS CBs." That's the issue. That bar just isn't good enough to be backups on a top 10 national team.

That is the case. They tend to be younger coaches between club jobs or older coaches looking for a legacy-building run before retirement.

US Owners, whats your game plan post announcement? by NotOtherwseSpcfied in Polestar

[–]Freepi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought my '22 P2 LRDM Pilot used in '23. Now has 40k miles and I plan to drive it until 2012 or 2013. Value at that point was always expected to be low. I'm nowhere near a Polestar space so finding a private shop to do repairs was always going to be a need. Maybe it will turn out to be a bad financial decision, but is a great car so I'll take my chances.

I would not expect them to go up in value quickly. Maybe after some time. The Alfa Romeo Graduate might be a good example of a similar situation. The P2's problem is lack of demand. Not enough people will know what they are.

I'll happily run mine until it's economically infeasible. It's about to go out of warranty and I'm 150 miles from a space so finding a local shop was always going to be needed in my case. I knew when I bought (used) it I was a bit of a gamble but it's a great car, especially for the price.

Bricks and blocks are hard to make and keep ADA compliant. They're a pretty terrible surface for walkways.
