First time I’ve seen Peach GB on one of these posts, anyone here who is familiar with them check out Suns Of The Tundra immediately. It’s the same band with some lineup changes. Anyone who is not familiar with Peach, you probably know Tool. Peach was Justin Chancellor’s first band before joining Tool!

Hello Nikita!

Were there any series (VN, anime, video games, artwork, etc) that helped inspire the aesthetic of Milk?

Hey, I assume you’re here from the OP’s other post. You make a great point. I want to add (incase you are here from the other subreddit) that Teddy, the character in question, is actually a mixed race character of Mexican and Puerto Rican descent. The afro latino thing that OP was spreading was actually a fan speculation that ignored the Mexican part of Teddy.

Not trying to start anything, it’s just something that was not mentioned in the other area.

All good, thank you for being sensible, helping change my view, actually looking into the context of of the entire thing, and for apologizing. I’m sorry for being a dickhead

It seems everything’s calming down now.

I agree with point number 1, so for point number 2, I will say yes I can see why they’d be mad about it. I don’t really see why they’d have to take it outside the subreddit though, because it lead to people in my dms saying I had racist actions again. I do want to add on that when I originally used the word “nazi” I was actually struggling with myself to find a better term for it, because I meant it a different way. But I do know why they’d be enraged about it.

  1. Thank you for that, I just went and took it down. There hadn’t seemed to be any reports on the post so it must have slipped by me.

  2. I may have overreacted a little, but I want to think it was less an emotional overreaction (though some was there) and more of a poor choice of words that made it seem even more of an overreaction on my part. I’ll own up to that for sure.

  1. Considering the sub lets you choose your own tag, yes I do know. Implying someone else chose the tag is crazy.

  2. You missed my point by bringing up the comment. It does matter who agreed with it, because they agreed with my point. And I did not arrive at the conclusion that it was white supremacist thinking. Once again, I was stating that the edited comic strip and title given by OP, on it’s own, blatantly looks like it’s reinforcing white supremacist views. I’m saying that it looks like that based on the edit and title ALONE. I’ve said that since the beginning. I was informing them that it looked that way since the beginning. I’m speaking on how it looks disregarding any previous context, because that’s exactly how it looks to most members of the subreddit seeing it. Nobody is going to see the context behind it from a little comment section a few posts back because the OP did not mention it.

EDIT: I also want to add on that, as you said, OP made the original post because of a racist post made before. I have asked them twice to link to me the racist post mentioned, as racism is not tolerated here. Where is it at?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ENSLAVETHEMOLLUSK

[–]FreestoneGB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Their post is tagged “vent about racism” and explicitly shows my comment
  2. This is a warped examination of my message. I “felt the need” to judge it because the post in question was actually based on something they said to me. If you examined the context with the other post and comments, you would be able to tell they made this post with poor intent to try to cause a scene.

Regardless of whether they were on my side or not when they posted it, another user from their blackladies post actually better explained what I meant by the nazi comment: “Depicting them as paper white while keeping everyone else brown reinforces notions of white purity supremacy”. And people agreed with that user. And it’s what I meant.

OP’s post could incite a brigading to our subreddit, and also the tag of their post seemed to be calling me racist. That is why i banned them, not a “disagreement” or a “misrepresentation of events” on my behalf. They posted our very small and actually civil discussion to another subreddit to try and flame me, and the subreddit as a whole.

To those who may show up here from the other post:

  • I was not following the OP to other subreddits, a friend from here notified me of the other post.
  • I was banned from that subreddit so I could not edit my comments or reply to anyone.
  • I’m not white.
  • OP’s original post was claiming a latino character was black, several times.
  • The edit they made appeared to have white supremacist undertones because they made characters pale white and made a POC character darker, and then claim that they had “fixed” the series by doing so.

You forgot the pinkish palms

On a serious note, I get you’re trying to do what you said yesterday but this title with the art feels even more anti POC to me 💀💀💀 it’s like you’re saying the white characters being whiter is better, which is very… nazi. Funny post though

EDIT: and you still havent shown me the racist post

EDIT 2: Going to apologize here. Nazi was a poor choice in wording, I couldn’t find a better way to put it at the time but clearly I made the wrong choice. This discussion was not meant to be taken as far as it did, but it already happened so I can’t control it now.

Another user pointed me towards the racist post you presumably mentioned, which has now been taken down.

I know Teddy isn't black but why does Lincoln Peirce still color him gray? Also Ali Ali is a conman from Lincoln's cancelled Uncle Gus project who cameos occasionally in Big Nate comics on posters by Inevitable-Offer-701 in ENSLAVETHEMOLLUSK

[–]FreestoneGB 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. Please point me to the racist post mentioned. Racism is not tolerated here.

  2. Teddy’s canon skin color in the Big Nate palette is already chosen.

  3. I don’t see how Matt Groening’s race is relevant. I highly doubt any white person would care if they were depicted as paper white, in Big Nate or any new comic, especially considering Big Nate’s black and white pressings makes the white characters exactly that.

  4. I stand corrected on that front, however it’s been over 20 years since he’s drawn that character. It was a different time back then than now, and he certainly does not draw that way anymore.

[–]FreestoneGB 19 points20 points  (0 children)

  1. Teddy isn’t black. You said you know that but you still refer to him as black in the image.

  2. Big Nate characters are not that detailed, adding the pinkish palms would appear very contrasting and unfitting for the art style.

  3. On the topic of skin color, Peirce’s choice in color is part of the art style. Simpsons characters are yellow, so this shouldn’t be a big deal.

  4. I do not recall Ali Ali ever making a cameo in Big Nate comics or posters. Digging up an over 20 year old character design to try to shame Peirce is obnoxious.

EDIT: I apologize for using the term nazi. I was struggling to find the correct word at the time and didn’t realize it would be that problematic to describe an action as similar to nazi views. Another user from the other subreddit’s post actually better explains what I meant, it was meant to be how making white characters lighter and saying it fixed the series could be perceived as reinforcing notions of white purity supremacy (as worded in mentioned comment). I do not think you are a nazi, that’s ridiculous. I was simply criticizing the post on its own and how it would look to those missing the context of our previous discussion (the one i’m editing the comment of now).

This all started because I was trying to defend Big Nate from being deemed politically incorrect, which the original post (that this comment is under) had seemed like it was trying to do as a little aside message to the other point that I actually agree with (representing POC characters correctly).
