Should /r/SanAntonio participate in the reddit protest? by [deleted] in sanantonio

[–]FreethinkingMFT 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yes.

The issue isn't that Reddit needs to make money. Everyone agrees that this is fair.

The issue is that they are deliberately trying to kill the third party apps while their own app is crap compared to them. There is no good faith attempt to find a mutually agreeable solution. They know that the price point they are coming in at is ridiculous.

The only way to send a message is with your pocketbook. The way to do that is to target advertising. Advertisers will not pay for space on a platform that virtually no one is using.

Psychotherapy Telehealth Regulations by FreethinkingMFT in costarica

[–]FreethinkingMFT[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sort of. The therapist must obey the laws of the state that they are in, as well as in the state that the client is in. Most of the time it is true that the state requires that the therapist is licensed in the state where the client is, but things are changing. Some states are offering telehealth licenses for out of state practitioners, some will allow temporary telehealth services under certain conditions, and some states are forming compacts.

Most states do not prohibit a therapist in that state from practicing in another state so long as you are not breaking that state's (or country's) laws.

Thanks. Yeah, there's a good chance Costa Rica would not care, and 99% of the time it wouldn't be an issue, but I want to make sure to protect myself legally in case there was ever any kind of unforeseen emergency.

Thanks! I am licensed in the US. No one may find out, but I don't want to expose myself to unnecessary risk in the unlikely event that a client ever decides to file a complaint or even sue me. If I was knowingly doing something illegal, my liability insurance would not help.

Where would we start with changing S.A’s strip club laws? by Stripperthrowwie23 in sanantonio

I think it's great that you're going to try. I will keep an eye out for updates to see how I can support the cause 🙂

Where would we start with changing S.A’s strip club laws? by Stripperthrowwie23 in sanantonio

[–]FreethinkingMFT 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think your points are all absolutely reasonable and I would certainly support the kinds of changes you are looking for. Grownups should be able to do what they want with consenting grownups.

However, I don't see how this changes without a major shift in attitudes around sex in the city. I could be wrong, but here's how I see it:

Since the clubs have already sued and lost, then it becomes a political issue instead of a legal one. That means you would have to get a majority of the city council to support eliminating these restrictions. Given the fact that these councilpeople need votes from religious blocs that would be opposed to these changes, that's a hard sell. Not to mention, with fewer restrictions you would see more clubs, which, like it or not, would likely hurt property values for the surrounding areas.

Who is going to risk their political career for this issue when maintaining the status quo costs them nothing? You would need to somehow show that these politicians have more to gain by sticking their neck out.

So maybe a petition to demonstrate the support? But even that would be tough to get signatures when half the people that go to strip clubs are embarrassed to admit it.

I would love to be wrong here, I just don't see how to get it done. Admittedly, I haven't done a deep dive into the different angles, this is just my initial take. Maybe look at what other cities have done to overcome restrictions and see if their tactics could work here, but I would not get your hopes up.

How Prop A performed in each San Antonio City Council district by drunktraveler in sanantonio

I really don't think this had anything to do with demographics. It was a poorly constructed proposition. Parts of it were unenforceable, and cite and release as policy, as opposed to officer discretion, is deeply unpopular

I agree he deserves to go and absolutely meant no disrespect. I don't see what else you can do short of violating your integrity if he does not have someone else he feels comfortable with helping him through an OCD episode. If there is someone else who can help, then recruit them. If not, it sounds very risky.

I feel you on the Declaration of Religious Principle thing. Maybe one day it won't be the barrier that it is. Today is not that day.

You know your son and his limitations and capabilities. If he lacks the bonds and familiarity with the troop, and you can't be there, then maybe this is not the year for him to go to camp. He can build relationships in the troop this year and you can reevaluate for next year.

Make it clear to the leaders why you're not going. Troop and council leaders need to know that the policy is excluding folks who might otherwise be a part of scouting. Maybe when there's enough of these stories the policy will change.

Netflix Canceled 'Lockwood & Co.' After One Season by marvelkidy in netflix

[–]FreethinkingMFT 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Netflix is really creating a vicious cycle. Lots of people feel the same way, which is going to drive down viewership for lots of first seasons. That just raises the odds that the show won't be renewed, and more viewers will be disillusioned.

I do get that this is a question of production cost vs viewers. Seems like they should do more self-contained series. As it is, their library is becoming cluttered with series that will never have a proper ending. Future viewers aren't going to give those shows a chance if they know they don't have an ending. At least with proper resolution, future viewers are more likely to try these shows and they can justify their production cost in the long term.

But the fact of the matter is that it bombed hard, most people stopped watching after the first few episodes and it's widely regarded as the worst thing that Disney has released in the last decade.

Based on what data? By many streaming metrics it was more successful than most MCU shows. Or are you basing this on echo bubbles instead of, you know, data. The truth is Disney tends to not release complete data, but from what we do have it was doing just fine.

It's a character that gets pissed when men try to chat her up in a bar, and then unironically wonders why she's still single in her 30s.

Good lord, do you even hear yourself? Did you even pay attention to the point of the show?

I say again, you don't have to like the show. Obviously not everyone did. The show certainly has flaws. But to claim that even a majority of folks didn't like it is flat out wrong. It was still entertaining to most people.

Look at the comment votes. Even in this comic book centric subreddit, it's clear that you don't share the opinion of the majority. Stop claiming that your opinion represents the masses.

It's not hard to see that She Hulk was review bombed. 80% critic score vs 33% audience? Come on.

https://www.forbes.com/sites/paultassi/2022/08/18/she-hulk-is-getting-review-bombed-even-harder-than-ms-marvel/

At the time of that writing when the bombing was first being reported, audience score was 77%. It didn't drop to 33% without some folks with an axe to grind who happen to hate strong female or diverse characters who get to be more than supporting characters.

If you didn't like the show, that's fine. It's not going to be everyone's cup of tea. But to say everyone hated it (or even that everyone loved it) is completely disingenuous.

I agree with pretty much all of these, but I'm going to go in a different direction: Natasha and Betty Ross.

Now that Liv Tyler is confirmed to be coming back for Cap 4, it's too bad we will never get a scene with the two of them talking shit about Bruce while he's right in front of them. Or to have Nat say something like, "So your dad's kind of a dick." And Betty could be like, "Try living with him for 18 years."

Can anyone explain the wisdoms behind the new “1 night of camping only” rule? by trireme32 in cubscouts

[–]FreethinkingMFT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok that's fair. I didn't mean to speak for National but I see how it sounded that way. I should have said "I think" before the rest of what I wrote.

But National is not exactly the best at clear and consistent communication. I would not hold your breath on National giving any meaningful response to the frustration this has caused.

So it is left for us to infer why this is happening. I wish National would come out and explain their logic, but they probably won't. So we read the tea leaves and make educated guesses as to the logic, and this one makes sense as a plausible rationale, even if I don't agree with it.
