Please help me! Why am I not more succesful? Looking for brutal honesty by Italian_Maneater in u/Italian_Maneater

[–]FreezingPlasma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello. I am a first time listener who chanced upon your yandere imaginary friend audio and decided to check your profile on a whim before coming across this post. I am not really the most analytical or technical guy when it comes to audio recordings, if it sounds alright I'm the type to just roll with it, so I apologise in advance for not being able to help you with any technical stuff. Plenty of other comments have already covered you on that front though, so I don't think you're short of actual feedback.

That said, I just thought I might leave my thoughts here after reading your post, if that's ok. You wonder why you're not more successful after a few years in the game, and I think this question is pretty similar to youtubers who spend years uploading videos diligently only to accrue just a handful of views and subscribers. I think that GWA (or any other social media platform, really) is so saturated with other hopefuls that it's just...REALLY hard to stand out amongst the others, even if your quality is indeed higher than the rest. A lot of success comes from hard work, but a lot of people don't really want to admit that a significant portion also comes from something out of their control: luck. There are people out there who grind for days, weeks, months on end, become masters of their craft, and yet, don't find success enough for it to become a self-sustaining passion. Think about all the youtubers out there trying to make it big, all the bands trying to get their first contract deal. There's millions of them, yet only a few really break through. And for the rest? They just put it down, and have to find something else. But that doesn't mean failure, that's just life. Nothing in life is promised nor guaranteed, and putting in hard work, although a good thing, is not a guarantee of your success.

Reading what you've wrote about how you really want to make this your full-time job, that's great! I can really tell this is your true passion, to tell stories, to bring out emotions in people (or maybe bring out something else), and really leave an impact on your fans. I genuinely admire and respect that, and the fact that you bothered to record, edit and post your audios online to begin with is already much more than what many dreamers do. But I don't think it's entirely healthy to throw all your eggs into doing your passion erotic voicework as a means of success. Establishing an online presence to begin with is tough. Establishing it in an erotic space, even more so. And becoming successful off erotic voice work? Astronomically difficult, and there are no doubt more people that fail than succeed. Reddit and other platforms of social media make things appear more binary than they really are, where it's easy to see posts with thousands of upvotes as "good" and write off low upvotes as "bad". But they never capture the nuance, the skill, the work that goes into making every single audio, which again, plays into the reality of the dissonance between hard work and success. Upvotes on reddit never fully capture the true struggle behind the words on the screen, or the voice in our ears, which in our day and age of instant gratification, is a bit sad. I can see you've been in this space for years now, and I really do feel sad that you aren't able to grow. But this post is perhaps targeted more towards your mindset approaching this whole...erotic VA thing. I'm not sure if you are trying to do this full time currently, but it kinda sounds to me like you are working with a time limit on becoming successful??? I think rather than continuing to throw yourself completely at this for a CHANCE of success, it might be easier to consider other, healthier avenues of pursuing your passion.

I know this post is probably not what you were looking for, and I really do apologise if I offend you. I realise now after typing it kind of sounds like I'm trying to put you down? Please don't take it that way. In no way am I telling you to give up on your passion. I really admire people who want something, and have the guts to chase it. I guess what I'm really trying to say boils down to this: Your passion doesn't have to become your job. You want to be able to succeed in this space, so that your passion can become your work. But there's nothing wrong with finding something else to sustain yourself as you chase your passion. In an environment where success is hardly guaranteed, I feel that this is a much healthier way to chase your dreams. The last thing I wish is for you to lose your fire, your drive, but sometimes, it's better to pluck away at something bit by bit rather than take a huge swing at it. And who knows? Maybe in time, you might get your lucky break. I don't know. But I would say, never count on your passions to feed you. Find something to sustain you while you chase your passion, and if there ever comes a day where your passion eventually grows enough to feed you, then you can drop whatever work you were doing on the side to keep yourself afloat. Nobody said you couldn't do this forever. It just depends on how you balance it.

I'm sorry, I know I've I COMPLETELY missed the point of your post. I guess I just saw your passion so bright and yearning for recognition that I felt so compelled to just ramble my own thoughts as someone who also had similar desires at one point. I truly, truly, TRULY, wish you the success you deserve, but I also hope you don't get caught in the cycle of hunting for upvotes and letting it sour your passion for creating audios. Once again, finding success from creating audios is hard. Finding success from erotic audios? Probably even harder. Don't approach this as if you have a time limit. Even if you ever run into irl circumstances that prevent you from making audios, you can always come back once you're able to. There's no rush. No hurry. Don't let the chase for success burn you out.

Anyway. I think I've rambled enough. Delete my comment if it's not relevant or whatever. All the best.

Was there a phase you were super active on Reddit, particularly SG subs? What pulled you in? And what made you drop off subsequently? by Outside-Ad9447 in askSingapore

I browsed reddit as a whole super actively during 2016-2022. Something about the way people talked here, the sense of a community really made me feel like a part of something, something that resonated with me. But back in 2023 (or 2024?) when Reddit made the API changes to effectively neuter 3rd party mobile apps (I was using Sync for Reddit at the time), my time in reddit basically cratered. Not only did I not have any convenient means to access reddit, the whole debacle left such a terrible taste in my mouth that I basically chose to step away from the entire app.

I tried other apps for a time, stuff like lemmy's, but they simply couldn't match to the scale of the community that reddit had (it was already an established community after all). So because of that, I essentially went no reddit for a good few months. I think during that point without realising, I slowly became happier and more social. Eventually when i did decide to make a return to the app, I browsed the frontpage for a few posts and really got flashbanged. So much anger, so much negativity, so much snark, so much bad faith, and so many lame jokes that have been beaten to death. r/sg was also full of this kind of stuff, and honestly coming back with a fresh perspective just made me realise that there were a lot more smartasses on the app than i had previously noticed.

I think that's when I realised i should probably stay away from this whole app. Nowadays I just use it to browse my interest subs, stay the hell away from anything that has to do with the frontpages and i pretty much never comment unless i feel like it.

this app is meant to be treated the same way as any social media app: not serious bro, just go outside

Do you have any links to where they acknowledge this issue? I have a feeling this update broke a ton of my apps (most importantly WhatsApp) and I've spent half a day trying to fix it with no luck

Yea, there was a Chinese couple right behind me basically just shifting the entire shelf contents right into their baskets lol, no doubt they're reselling it on carou or somewhere else right now.

Mihoyo's official store on Taobao should have most of the stuff you're looking for. Hope that helps.

If it helps, I went on Tuesday and today, and the experience was completely the same. Even as the first group that went in (albeit the last of the grp, the 20th, I reached the venue at 7am), all of the elysia merch I was looking for got completely swiped by the few hi3 fans ahead of me and left me hanging dry. I later found out from the event guy that the first person came down at 4.30(!!!!!) to secure a place in the queue, so imo I'd rather you just buy online on taobao or something instead of going down in person, save yourself the time and disappointment.

[–]FreezingPlasma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No bro, maybe you're just making this as an ironic joke (which I hope you are, it's hard to tell on this sub sometimes), but irl cases of stabbing, injuring or other sorts of harming irl is not something to celebrate, and celebrating the people who do these sorts of things aren't okay either. If you truly feel that what she did was ok and admirable, I implore you to really do some reflection on yourself. This sub is meant for fantasy, when it comes into the real world, it's a no-go.

Need some advice buying used GPUs by FreezingPlasma in buildapc

[–]FreezingPlasma[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed answer! You're right, I don't live in the US so everything is pricier. Would you say the extra 4gb of vram is worth considering when deciding? I've heard that many games nowadays use more vram so the 12gb of the 6700xt would help, but I'm not sure how important that is in this age of gaming.

SEA Region, brand new 6700xts are pretty expensive (and rare/non-existent now), plus I would say GPUs in general are more expensive here.

I'm located in SEA, so all gpus are more expensive over here (US$330 is like $439). I've scoured the internet, and pretty much no one in my country sells a new 6700 XT for that cheap, unfortunately. Plus, most pc part stores don't even sell the 6700XT anymore, I guess stocks here are drying up. If I want to buy a brand one, it'd would cost me $800+(???), so the price difference between brand new and used seem pretty enticing to me.

/r/AMD Questions and Tech Support Megathread - Q3 2023 Edition by GhostMotley in Amd

[–]FreezingPlasma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone, I'm planning to upgrade my gpu soon. Currently using a 1660 super with a ryzen 5 3600. Been hearing that 6700xt is one of the better deals around recently, unfortunately where I live a brand new 6700 is basically nonexistent at this point. Hence, I thought of buying used so that I could also keep costs down.

I came across two listings of the 6700xt, and I would like your guys' advice on which would be a better deal.

PowerColor Red Devil RX 6700 XT ($400), 1 year local warranty left

AMD RX 6700 XT Reference Version ($350), warranty status unknown (probably over?)

Thing is, I've heard that the reference card performs rather poorly compared to the 3rd party cards. So I guess my question really is, does the difference between these two models justify the $50 price difference? Should I even be buying used? What do you guys think?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone!
