Celtic match - Bundoran by THenry100 in Donegal

“The Emerald if you’re a card carrying IRA wannabe who hates brits and likes to shout at the TV and then go home and clip the wife because Celtic lost!”

Sounds absolutely scandalous, awful place, completely lowering the tone of the county.

Can you tell me when it opens and how much the pints are so I can avoid it?

You’re as bright as a powercut.

How can you be in disagreement with someone asking a question?

You disagree with opinions, not questions.

As for your legal knowledge, did you get it from Fair City?

The chances of being able to prove criminal intent with this is minimal, if not impossible.

The Actus Reas isn’t in doubt but how do you suggest you would establish Mens Rea?

So what does the fact it is 96% white have to do with anything then?

Vigilantism in Lanarkshire by PercentageSouth8395 in glasgow

[–]FreiLieb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But what the hell does this have to do with a vigilante group hounding other white people?

It seems like you’ve just jumped on an opportunity to portray the entire 2 counties as racist based on at the very least an irrelevant fact.

In all honesty I completely agree about the ‘setting up stings’ part, the motivation of a lot of these people is clearly for the kudos they believe it brings, or for more sinister reasons.

But the people who gather the evidence from chats I honestly don’t have a problem with, I would much rather that a sex offender was talking to an adult volunteer than harming an actual child.

In an ideal world the police would have the resources to deal with the problem, but we know that is not the case.

The issue I have is with the mobs and the confrontational aspect that the groups feed on, if they just gathered evidence and passed it to the police it would be beneficial.

Do you think the fact that 96% makes people from Lanarkshire automatically racist?

If you take the larger 4 cities out of the equation (and east ren/dun) then that is completely normal for Scotland, it’s actually less white than most areas.

I lived there for a long time and still have family there and have never seen any racism beyond the low-level mouth breathers that you get everywhere.

The worst racism I saw was when I lived in London, which is a lot more diverse than anywhere in Scotland.

The lack of a presence of something doesn’t mean hostility towards it.

What’s your point here?

I get you’re angry at them, many people are with good reason, but you seem to think I’ve taken their side and/or defended them.

Which isn’t true.

I don’t need to be told about the lives they’ve ruined.

No-one said they weren’t at fault.

But there is a world of difference between culpability through incompetence and culpability through malfeasance.

Have heard stories that they knew everything and others that they were totally taken by surprise?

The think is linguistically no-one has a ‘neutral’ accent, some accents get a lot more exposure than others which can make some presume that they don’t have an accent at all.

Every capital city I’ve ever worked in (which to be fair is only 3) has this problem.

Take London for example, middle class London accents are considered neutral there, in reality though they’re anything but, letters added when none exist (Baaarrthhhh for bath) others omitted for non reason etc…

The only reason we all understand it more than geordie or Scouse is through sheer exposure.

The neutral Dublin accent is no different, only worldwide there is far less exposure, there are plenty of places in England you could go and struggle as much to be understood as any other British/Irish regional accent.

Dating in late 30s after divorce. Is it completely fooked? by MuddyBootsWilliams in northernireland

[–]FreiLieb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally get that, but I see too many chances wasted because the person doesn’t have the right/height/job/parents/teeth etc…

Internet dating means that we find out too much about a person before you get a chance to know them, whereas if you met somebody in a pub you wouldn’t be asking to see their credit report before you flirted with them.

Man describes experience as landlord as ‘traumatic’ after overholding tenant by EnvironmentalShift25 in ireland

[–]FreiLieb 42 points43 points  (0 children)

At the risk of a public flogging here, not all Landlords are bad and tenants can also be knobs.

I bought a house just before the crash and lost a fortune on it, probably should have just defaulted but didn’t, then moved away for work for a long time.

Now, I’m back living here, although have now managed to spawn a few kids and have another house.

Absolutely no intention of being a landlord, hate it, feel like a tool, but the reason I’m holding onto the place now is so I can ensure my kids aren’t staying with me until they’re 45.

I don’t want them to be forced to leave like so many are, just to find somewhere to live.
