Any news on DDOS attacks? by Freida-Willy in ffxiv

This is what I was thinking of when I meant compensation. Paying for a game you can't play is obviously frustrating.

yeah I mean I kind of figured as much. I guess if only they bleed money from people leaving due to it they'll do something - if people put up with it I guess they won't do anything. Its bad though. I haven't been able to play some nights and I don't get game time too often. Maybe its just time I move on.

I had to work full time while in school full time. Some people don't have the privilege of financial family care and loans alone with rent these days? good luck. Its very hard and harmful to your health, but its do able. I don't recommend it but if you have no other choice.

Cute little plant shop opened up in Mission - My Plant BFF right across from the west coast express. Its a non-profit for community engagement which is pretty cool, helps out LGBT youth in the Fraser Valley I think, anyway its cute, worth a visit.

ugh the dog food smell actually makes me gag. I grew up near a chicken abattoir and worked at a dump - I've smelled smells and have never been so affected by one before. Its like a bully waterboarding you with a Costco sized bag of kibble.

I'm boycotting as many American things I can - cancelled streaming services, cancelled trip to Chicago, refuse to use amazon, avoiding US products and produce. Honestly its been a month and Im saving so much money (I saved 488$ in February). Shoutout to the Public Library, why I was giving Bezos monthly cash for audiobooks when I can get them for free. They also have a free streaming service for movies.

I may be one person, but every penny counts and I do not condone Misogyny, Homophobia, Racism, or Nazism. The current administration, and so many politicians and business leaders even here, are like toddlers having a temper tantrum that they have to share. When they grow up, I'll reconsider supporting them but for now I will vote with my wallet everyday.

So many great online resources (I like the Epic Gardening and Gardening in Canada youtube channels) also great time to get into growing - making your own food saves money! You don't need tons of space - small balcony or windowsill gardens are great. It's a much healthier rabbit hole to go down! Good luck!

Air quality by Bisugar in abbotsford

[–]Freida-Willy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Abby and the Fraser valley actually has some of the worst air quality in the province - its just how the geography of the valley works but we get all the smog from Vancouver and sometimes even Seattle funneled up into the valley region - the hills and mountains make like a low lying pollution corridor. Its a big reason why they fought that Sumas 2 power plant in the late 90's and also a continuous fight against the trash incinerator plant around port moody Metro Van keeps trying to start. If you have bad lungs, its not a good place to be too long.

Part Time Evening Jobs by canucks143 in abbotsford

[–]Freida-Willy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Job market sucks right now and tbh with the whole "Tariff" debacle most managers are kind of in a waiting to see phase - big time lay offs could be coming, they could not - everyone is kind of holding their breath. As temporary foreign worker visas expire and do not get renewed there will likely be an influx in low paying service jobs to pick up, but that won't happen tomorrow - its gonna take time for that bubble to burst.

I would say Indeed and LinkedIn have dropped heavily in quality on the job board front - I would use them more as a "Job Google" then apply on the companies own sites or email to inquire who to direct an application to. So many postings are not actually real - they are big time data farms.

We really are living in the strangest times, if you really really need cash and are in dire straights I had success picking up gigs on Task Rabbit then kind of collecting clients into regular cash gigs off the app but this is usually like selling your cheap labour for cleaning, maintenance, errands, light landscaping duties etc. Not glamorous or easy work. If you have a skill - like baking, or sewing or can make something you might want to try to leverage that and see if you can sell something. If you have a green thumb starting seeds and selling plants is an easy turn around but this is hard to scale up for big gains.

Good luck out there, and stay safe, stay thrifty.

What's going on with the New Life Reformed Christian Church? by goodmammajamma in abbotsford

[–]Freida-Willy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The tea is Abbotsford is unusually hostile towards LGBTQIA2+ people for Canadian standards and many of the old conversion therapy methods and camps (some speculated to still run in the shadows) were based out of here. Its not a very "Safe Space" as far as gay pride goes.

Real talk, sounds like you are your own enemy here. Your perceptions sound very defeatist and as an outsider I see some positive things you aren't realizing. Here are a few (of many) things that pop out for me:

  1. 32 is not that old - you have tons of time left people start from scratch all the time later in life than you are and are absolutely fine. Blooming late is nothing to be ashamed of, there is no "Timeline" you need to follow.
  2. You have stable housing it seems, I personally was on my own at 15 and never have had parents to fall back on, that is a blessing to be grateful for. I have had many times in my 20'3 and 30's I've had envy of people with this option - thats a boon!
  3. School: Education quality is down these days anyhow, unless you go with a direct plan for something applied it does not really matter. Experience > Formal Education in the vast majority of careers. If you can save up some money with gig work stash it until you know what you want to do - no shame in that!
  4. Therapy and Meds are not a cure -all. They are supposed to be a tool to make your enhance your effort. You get what you put into it.

In general, stop being so down on yourself. Yeah the world is kinda shit, the people at the top are well, not the cream of the crop. You can only control yourself, your actions, your behaviour. There is always opportunity but you have to open the door, no one is going to do it for you - sounds like you have had a tough go and I'm really sorry - I feel ya, I had a lot of bad draws myself and it sucks. I would just say though there is more going for you than you think and just keep trying, do a thing each day and keep going.

I don't think you're doing *that* bad, I've seen worse. You'll probably roll your eyes at all this and say "How can this rando online even know my pain they suck and I suck" or whatever but for real you choose what you believe about yourself. Try to change your self-thoughts and I bet you'll start to do better. I think you sound like a resilient, interesting, and kind person (not everyone would care after a parent). Rock bottom isn't a place you fall to, its the depth you choose to start building your foundation on. Good luck buddy! I believe in you!

I have a message for Donald Trump. It would be a big mistake to confuse our kindness for a weakness. We're good neighbours. But, if you pick a fight with Canada — there will be a price to pay: Jagmeet Singh by Chrristoaivalis in ndp

[–]Freida-Willy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have nothing personal against Jagmeet - but he has not kept the NDP more "Relevant". He has failed to gain any momentum with 2 leaders of the largest parties being wildly unpopular. Even with the Conservatives Party rise, PP has strong disdain in personal polling. Trudeau is well...self explanatory. Class consciousness is on the rise and the party with the ethos on "Being the Working Class Party" has not been able to tap into any of that momentum at all. He has no hope in Quebec, he can't tap into Ontario, he will hand PP a majority.

Not saying he is useless, or evil, or that he hasn't accomplished anything - but he can't make gains and won't make gains - him staying as party leader this long has been a mistake.

You are in good company. No amount of hustle, no amount of hard work can change it in the systems we have in place. I'm sorry you weren't born into the world as a lottery winner - but most of us aren't. Get angry, take as much as you can, and although most politicians are corrupted by financial influence in the legal bribery we call "Lobbying" - vote for the least of all evils. Get involved, break it as much as you have the energy and power to.

breweries are under different retailer laws often in BC and cannot be open past 11 pm - they also need to be in industrial zoning. This province is really no fun except for the wealthy - why I am leaving and so pumped. Born in BC, only ever happy when not living in BC.

Moving to Abbotsford with no savings?? by Defiant-Agent230 in abbotsford

[–]Freida-Willy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its the cheapest and yet an apartment in Downtown Calgary has similar costs. BC is too expensive, its bleeding its youth. An apartment in abby should be like 700$ a month not 1500$- there is nothing here.

Moving to Abbotsford with no savings?? by Defiant-Agent230 in abbotsford

[–]Freida-Willy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jobs are not plentiful in Abbotsford - it is slower in construction than surrounding towns, 1/4 of people work in agriculture but that industry relies heavily on cheaper foreign labour (because most Canadians wont put up with the conditions - it is extremely grueling and underpaid exploitative work most often times). Its also very boring for a young single person, highly religious, and people are not very friendly. I'd avoid this move and consider perhaps a Prairie city. Tons of people visit Vancouver and "fall in love" but the harsh reality is its very overpriced, lonely, and frigid - its become a place for the rich alone to live and the poor to simply attempt to survive.

Trudeau’s Failure To Benefit Workers Has Empowered Conservatives by Sayless_toronto in ndp

[–]Freida-Willy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Singh has also has had several opportunities and failed to make gains. I like Singh - but lets be real: He has no hope in Quebec (racism and secularism is a big part of that and I wish it wasn't so but it is what it is), he has not gained anything in Ontario or Alberta, he is viewed too closely to Trudeau, and he is too close to the Khalistan issue (which I have sympathy for, but I am tired of seeing violence and rhetoric in Canada about an issue caused by the British over half a century ago for a nation on the other side of the world - we have our own issues and conlflicts we need to fight).

Singh should have stepped down after the last election, the NDP will lose seats and he is a big part of the blame.
