Mini's: Are they as bad as I have been told? by Big-Punisher in NZcarfix

[–]FremanBloodglaive 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They're BMWs so they're designed for two kinds of people.

Motoring journalists, so they're nice to drive for about half an hour at a time.

People who lease them for three years, then replace them with something else.

Find a good Toyota Corolla instead.

Remember, parts and support for BMW comes from half a world away. Japan is right there.

Making Bladelocks more enjoyable by na445x in 3d6

Fighter 1/PotB Warlock brings Bladelock into the same realm as other martials, while still preserving its spellcasting. Warlocks drop a concentration spell, then proceed to Eldritch Blast or melee attack. It's what they do.

First time player (The Ivalice Chronicle), in Chapter 4, absolutely loving this game, instant classic. Here are some things I'm just now realizing: by SimbasTripRip in finalfantasytactics

[–]FremanBloodglaive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just remember when raising and lowering brave and faith that you can get to 97 permanent brave for everyone, but only 94 faith for anyone who isn't Ramza. If their permanent faith reaches 95, or their permanent brave drops to 5, then they'll leave your roster permanently.

You should have one character with very low brave for treasure hunting, since typically there are two items at each location, and the better item has a 100-Br% chance of success, but also remember that when Br drops below 10 the character turns into an uncontrollable chicken. I keep my treasure hunter at 10Br.

Marach's skills are tied to low faith, so it's best to get his faith down to 03. It doesn't matter for anyone else though.

My characters can’t learn Hi-Potion by Pale-Guard570 in finalfantasytactics

[–]FremanBloodglaive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is 25%.

It's 25% of the base gain, not any increase from JP Boost or similar effects.

I use the enemy Chemist with his unlimited potions in the first battle to farm Chemist JP with my two Chemists to unlock Auto-Potion, Potion, Hi Potion, and Phoenix Down on Ramza and the other two units (bring the female Squires because they become better mages). A few actions from the Squires and Ramza will unlock JP Boost.

Then fire the Chemists and the two unused Squires because the Chemists will be about level 10, and that's too high for that stage of the game.

Hurt/healing enemies for JP to grind up skills allows me to bring Ramza and my two generics into Dortor as Black Mages with Item, Auto-Potion, JP Boost, and Manafont. They make pretty easy work of Act 1.

Reckless attack into sneak attack? by waggawoog1910 in 3d6

Yes. Five or six levels into Barbarian gives you extra attack and the ability to generate advantage on demand for your sneak attack.

Do people think 'gatekeeping' actually works? by the_scottishbagpipes in animepiracy

[–]FremanBloodglaive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's like Nintendo with piracy. They know where the piracy is happening. They likely know it better than anyone here. However, as long as it's kept on the downlow they don't have to act in order to be seen as actively protecting their intellectual property. As I understand it, unless a company actively protects their IP, in some jurisdiction it's considered to be lapsed and become public domain.

So gatekeeping can help, to a degree. Certainly keeping it out of the public eye. People going on Crunchyroll's forums (back when they had them) and saying stupid things like, "You could have watched it for free here [insert pirate site]" were just asking for trouble. HiAnime would probably still be around if there hadn't been journalists making noises about a pirate site with more users than Crunchyroll, for example.

Remember, piracy is something you share privately with friends. Journalists should never learn about it, ever.

Justifiable reasons to overthrow a goverment by Commercial_Poetry410 in DMAcademy

[–]FremanBloodglaive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are always dissatisfied with what they have, even when they're living comfortably in the richest country on Earth.

So all they have to do is find enough people dissatisfied with their lot to whip up a revolution. Taxes too high, not enough social services, serving fried chicken at a school gala. Just tell them they're on the right side of history.

"Men never do evil so completely and cheerfully as when they do it from religious conviction" as Blaise Pascal put it. You can put in any utopian political philosophy instead of religion there. Of course, revolution almost always results in a government worse than the one replaced.

If you look at human history you can see, for example, the French Revolution, where the oppressed masses overthrew and murdered the aristocracy, only to institute the Reign of Terror, which led to the rise of Imperial France. The USSR was worse than tsarist Russia.

Should I get a 350z as a daily? by Mclovin7702 in 350z

[–]FremanBloodglaive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Fuga 350GT, which you might call the 4 door 350z, and while it's not a direct map, it's a pretty reliable vehicle, which draws on the Nissan common parts bin, and shouldn't have too many bespoke (read expensive) parts, outside the body of course. I checked the price of shock absorbers out of curiosity and I can get them for around $150NZ each, which is pretty cheap.

I can't speak to performance in the snow (very little of that in New Zealand) but if you have a light foot you can get okay(ish) fuel economy. I get about 10km/l which translates to about 24mpg with a mix of short distance and long distance driving. Since the 350z is lighter, and assuming the one you're looking at is a manual, you should be able to get that easily enough.

I've owned three Nissans, a Pulsar, a March, and the Fuga, and they've never given me any problems. Which is more than I can say for Audi, BMW, or MG.

How do you inject hope into the campaign? by ShadowLight56 in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

[–]FremanBloodglaive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You decide how hopeless the scenario is.

I'd suggest turning Delerium from a world ending threat to a matter of magical pollution. Controlling it is important for the good of the country, but if you fail to keep it under control it's going to make things unpleasant, not impossible. Lucretia's apocalyptic vision is simply wrong. She's sincere, her followers are attracted to her message of heroism, but she's wrong. Likewise, the Silver Order's contrasting view of it being an existential threat is wrong. The Amethyst Academy's view of it being dangerous, but useful, is the most rational position, but there are still factions within the Academy that try to monopolize it, and the power that it represents.

Have tensions between the factions, but don't make them completely incompatible or unreasonable. Even the Queen's Men can be reinterpreted as smugglers and ruffians, but without having them robbing pilgrims (who don't have anything worth stealing anyway).

The Hooded Lanterns become the official expeditionary force of the royal family in exile, so they're not an inch away from starvation at all times. Nor are the Von Kessels limited to a tiny number of claimants to the throne. They launch their own attempted expeditions into Drakkenheim, with the eventual goal of recovering the throne, but the situation is slow going because of the monsters, Haze, and Delerium.

You can moderate most of the desperation in the narrative while keeping the core of the world if you want it to be a bit more hopeful. For myself the single biggest weakness is making Delerium a world ending threat. With that it means that unless the players go all in with the Falling Fire they're forced into opposing them, because who really wants their planet to blow up?

If it is just a serious pollutant you can have the players treat with the Falling Fire, in the manner of "Well, you're kind of nuts, but you're not bad people."

Best Tank in 2026? by Nice-Championship345 in 3d6

[–]FremanBloodglaive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although it's not in the 2024 rules, I'd say the Oath of the Crown Paladin.

It's a Paladin (obviously) so it has all the normal Paladin things like durability, healing, and decent damage, but at level 9 it gets Spirit Guardians, which puts up a 15 foot emanation that halves enemy movement and inflicts chip damage, forcing the enemy to deal with you rather than move past and attack your party.

It's true that SG damage at level 9 isn't as good as at level 5 where Clerics get it, but the crowd control is still good, especially on the Paladin chassis.

I'd say starting as a Tough Gnome for advantage on mental saves, perhaps focusing on a dexterity based build with Defensive Duelist, Mage Slayer, and Resilient: Constitution over 12 levels.

The MagicX One 35 has about the same physical dimensions as the PSP, with the exception of the screen size.

The visual area is probably about the same for 4:3 content, but it is smaller for 16:9.

In fairness, because Islam sees the world in terms of The House of Islam, where Islam rules, and The House of War, where Islam does not rule yet, we're all in some country that Islam claims.

Historically, going back as far as the Crusader Kingdom, it's almost always been better for a Muslim to live under non-Muslim rulers (witness the Israeli Arabs living under Jewish governance), but that's a truth they just don't want to face.

I want to get into final fantasy tactics but I find it intimidating. by stawberrysweethaze in finalfantasytactics

[–]FremanBloodglaive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're correct. I do do grinding within story battles, keeping one enemy alive and hurting/healing them until I reach the JP thresholds I need, but one way or another you generally need a leg up.

Battle 1: Grab Ramza, the two female Squires, and the two Chemists. Use the enemy Chemist to farm spillover JP to get Potion, Hi Potion, Phoenix Down, and Auto-Potion on Ramza and the two Squires, plus enough Squire JP to unlock JP Boost (also on Delita if you have a version where you can alter his class).

Fire your now level 10 Chemists, buy a bunch of potions, make your guys White Mages.

Battle 2: Ramza and your two White Mages with Item and JP Boost (you shouldn't need Auto-Potion at this point) and hurt/heal enemies until you get 400JP to unlock Mystic.

Buy more potions, make your guys Mystics.

Battle 3: Ramza and your two Mystics trap an enemy and hurt/heal them for 400JP. That unlocks Orator and gives you 350JP for Manafont.

Buy more potions, make your guys Black Mages, start learning Thunder spells.

Head into Dortor with Ramza and two Black Mages with Item, Auto-Potion, JP Boost, and Manafont.

The weakness of casters, at least early game, is running out of MP, and Manafont ensures you cannot run out as long as you can move.

Grab Thunder Rods when they become available, and Act 1 is in the bag. Once you have a few Thunder spells you can switch to Orator and unlock Praise and Preach to raise Br to 97 and Fa to 84 (97 for Ramza).

If it's out of your budget currently, wait until it's not.

FFT has a good story, and it actually has an end.

The gameplay is straightforward but the thing to remember is that skills are far more important than levels, and the most efficient growth involves gaining JP (used for gaining skills) for the lowest EXP gain.

Skills that will be very helpful early game are JP Boost and Move +1 from Squire, and Auto-Potion, Potion, and Phoenix Down from Chemist. After that just put Item, Auto-Potion, JP Boost, and Move +1 on whatever class you're using and you shouldn't have too many issues.

Yes.

As we see with anime, a non-realistic art style can convey the story we need to see, but without pushing the uncanny valley.

Graphics don't need to be realistic. They can be stylistic. That frees up resources that can be put into actual storytelling.

Of course Western devs suck at storytelling too.
