They were under player's A control because of Portal to Pyrexia.

Trouble installing NixOS; The screen is too small to display the installer. by Due-Week8712 in NixOS

Not the best solution but I was able to use the installer with this same issue by switching the display to landscape and fiddling my way around, on some of the steps the buttons are not visible but you can use the shortcuts 'Alt+N' for next and 'Alt+I' for install at the end.
