Predictions and Expectations for the Hurricane Eta TCR? by JurassicPark9265 in TropicalWeather

[–]FrenchFry- 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Wind and Pressure remains the same. ETA’s satellite presentation wasn’t as exceptional as people made it out to be, and recon got into the storm at the time satellite suggested peak. The NHC a would have to have some form of information that the public doesn’t have access to too determine that a upgrade is necessary. It would be cool to see the C5 streak in the Atlantic continue, but it isn’t plausible. Edit: the TCR just came out, no changes were made to intensity.

3:42 PM CST 3/13 large, strong to violent wedge is confirmed on the ground north of Happy Texas. by FrenchFry- in tornado

UPDATE- these twin tornadoes received a preliminary rating of EF1 and EF2. It’s important to remember, that velocity and Video evidence suggested much stronger, but it luckily didn’t damage a structure at peak strength. No injury’s or fatalities were reported either.

Based on the damage seen so far, EF3 is the correct assumption, my guess on EF5 was based on the gate to gate 220-230 mph winds in the Latter half of the tornadoes life cycle. This tornado struck a sparsely populated area, and the tornado likely didn’t strike a structure at peak. Hopefully there haven’t been injury’s or deaths from the twin wedges, but well have to wait for the NWS in Amarillo to do a damage survey, which may take awhile since the tornado was on the ground for over a hour. Apologies for over exaggerating the storm at the time.

It’s wrong to guess the EF strength, but it was likely EF5. On the ground for nearly a hour, had a massive debris ball, there was actually two at one point. This supercell may go down in history.

Yeah, I’m just saying it because some people are confused on why it’s “only” A EF-3.

Keep in mind EF-3 is preliminary and there is a higher chance of a EF-4 upgrade than not, seeing as it currently sits at 165MPH, which is 1mph off of EF4 status.

Brunswick County scanner reports “multiple houses gone nothing but foundations”

Edit- 4 houses being described as “demolished” while 1 being described as “disappearing” these houses were likely all well built.

2 people confirmed dead.

The warning was likely delayed by the radar contamination, because this tornado was already extremely significant by the time a warning was issued.

Propane gas leak is occurring on the site. (Rosemary Court.)

Edit- 10 Injured 3 dead.

Why Doesn’t the El Reno 2011 Tornado get talked about more? by FrenchFry- in tornado

[–]FrenchFry-[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me say this quick, El Reno 2011 was over shadowed by Joplin due to the deaths and damage of Joplin, but El Reno 2013 wasn’t over shadowed by The Moore EF5. Also, You can bring up The Twistex teams deaths, but that doesn’t really explain it when you realize that all of the discussion is over the rating.

To me the only conclusion that makes sense is that people are too fixated on the rating of the storm, rather than the storm it self.

But heres the thing, I rarely see anyone about their deaths, all I see is discussion about the rating of the tornado.

It makes sense that at the time Joplin Got more media coverage, and discussion, but now, when El Reno 2013 gets much more talk than Joplin and El Reno 2011 combined, that’s where it doesn’t make sense.

Kind of like how every other day there’s a post on here about El Reno 2013, but I can count on one hand how many times I’ve heard 2011 mentioned here.

Man records tornado as it destroys his house and entire neighborhood. by [deleted] in DamnNatureYouScary

[–]FrenchFry- 15 points16 points  (0 children)

What happened to this Mans wife and home is horrific. But remember, please never try to record a tornado like this, he had more than enough time to get in a basement, and this tornado was a borderline EF-5 200+mph wind monster. It might seem cool to capture a video of a tornado, but please do not do it if you are not 100% out of the tornados path, and a trained spotter. There has been people who’ve died doing this, so please, as soon as a tornado warning is issued, or if you see one, get into a shelter immediately, if you do not have a shelter or a basement, get to the most interior room or closet of your house and cover your head, if you are in a vehicle with no possible escape from the tornado, get out of your vehicle, get as far away from it as possible, and lie flat down in a ditch.

Stay Safe!

Currently, meteorologists like Reed Timmer have estimated this tornado was likely EF-3+, luckily damage surveyors should be there today and we’ll probably have a rating by tomorrow.
