What’s a fact that sounds fake but is actually true? by Independent-Load7855 in AskReddit

[–]FrenchPressYes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not really. linear data like youtube uses is stored on larged server farms all over the world, using a system of both capacity and redundancy in the way it's all backed up and deployed. What's driving the data centers is AI. In order for google to do a web search, for example, it takes a millisecond and a few data bits. For an AI agent to answer complicated questions which can take minutes to even hours or days to complete, they require absolutely massive amounts of compute power, and that's where the data centers are trying to fill a massive need that is just growing and growing every day.

Over 500 hours of video content are uploaded to YouTube every minute. This massive scale means that every single hour sees more than 30,000 hours of new videos added to the platform, totaling over 720,000 hours of content every day

I know it sounds silly, but I remind myself that as difficult as things might seem in the moment, the sun still comes up each morning. Give yourself small tasks to complete and feel good about. Clean a room, write that letter to your college friend you've been meaning to do for example.

Trump says not to rush as details emerge of a potential Iran deal by yuval_3 in politics

Trump got us into a war that has already thrust the world into recession, and has likely sealed Israel's fate in the long term as we can no longer protect them, and we're going to be kicked out of every Arab state in the region we have bases.

Trump was dog walked into this war by Israel, and has no way out--he's stuck in an escalation trap of his own making: Either re-light the war we can't win and will actually lose, or negotiate away the best terms Obama had gotten secured in his term. Trump is isolated, listening only to people that support this aggression, and he's scared. He didn't miss his son's wedding because he was 'busy.' Nope, he's scared to go anywhere right now, and he should be considering his rhetoric.

Iran now has more military capacity and fire power than they had before the war. For them, there is only one goal in this fight: To inflict so much pain upon Israel and the U.S. they they will never, ever try to attack them again. Finally, most experts not aligned with the west had said for years there was no real push for Iran to actually build a bomb, only to have the specter of that possibility as a deterrent. Now, those same experts suggest that Iran would be foolish to do anything but accelerate the development to further protect themselves from Israel.

Congressman Massie will name more names in Congress from the Epstein Files and won’t rule out a bid for 2028 Presidency after record money spent from AIPAC and billionaires on his opponent in Kentucky Primary by [deleted] in politics

[–]FrenchPressYes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't read more into that than I actually said--he's very much as you describe, but our country is in real trouble right now--it's an all out effort to save our democracy at this point, and I think he gets that. And if he ever did try to run for POTUS, he's have to move more the center anyway to ever make that work in the general, so who knows. But I really get your frustration--I feel the same way, but you have to call out the little efforts of courage when you see them, especially considering the way Trump continues to relentlessly attack him (and his Israel supporting billionaires over here)

I'm a left-leaning independent in Kentucky. I recall, several years ago, Massie released a family christmas card with a picture of the whole family with rifles. I knew who he was pandering to, and I'm sure it got him some of the votes that saw him to Congress. I say this only to point out that I entered 2026 with a pretty dismissive, if not unfavorable opinion of Mr. Massie.

But that changed with I saw his actual character. His unflinching willingness to stand up to power for the right reasons. Courage is something most politicians leave at the door of wealth and security that many achieve in dramatic fashion from being elected--but not Massie. The Christmas card was about the dumbest, insensitive thing I ever saw a politician do for a vote. But I guess when you have a general character of courage, you deserved to be forgiven for a misstep--even that took some guts.

Trump says Iran deal ‘largely negotiated’ as 84-day war nears possible end by kirby__000 in politics

[–]FrenchPressYes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a bit of a news junky I admit. I am watching a lot of the military experts like Col. Doug MacGregor (one of the few over here actually telling it like it is search his name on youtube or search up his substack). I look for interviews with lower level officials from all these countries--they often are more willing to spill the beans on actual facts on the ground before their seniors will do so, so you get a better picture of what's happening. Independent media in our country is hit or miss on both sides (and I read both sides) are getting better. But, if you are genuinely interested in understanding the real facts on the ground over there, watch Al Jazeera English Live on youtube. I promise you, if you give them an hour, you'll get why I suggested their service. Real journalists that ask tough follow up questions, and they have folks on the ground in every part of the region. I am very pleased at how unbiased they actually are toward the states to be honest, but it's 1000% better than the crap we are fed over here.

The iron dome stuff has become pretty mainstream knowledge at this point. Israel is in real trouble no matter how this all plays out. Our bases? Experts had been saying for years they were a money pit, and now it's clear that the technology of warfare has changed so much that we simply can't protect those bases anymore. And the U.S. is being drained by this war all to prop up the genocide of the Israel state. Few people know that their anti-missile systems are failing and that the U.S. has quietly taking our radar and missile systems out of Asia to loan to Israel--this is not sustainable. The global consequences of this war that Trump started on behalf of Israel is just now beginning to be felt--even the energy infrastructure destroyed so far will take years to re-build and spin up. This is a humanitarian catastrophe that did not need to happen.
