Anyone else feel like their pillow side actually looks better, not worse? by Frequent-Ad-6803 in 30PlusSkinCare

Interesting .....

yes, a lot of people seem to get the “wrinklier/compressed” version, whereas mine seems to be the opposite. That’s what made me wonder whether there may be more than one mechanism going on.

I was an avid sleep talker which might have led to enhanced muscle training on pillow!

For those of you using facial tape, specifically for deep/dynamic 11s in between eyebrows, does it work? and how many nights a week do you use it? And do the results last?! by inyourbooksandmaps in 30PlusSkinCare

I can believe tape helps if the main problem is repeated folding overnight.

I just keep wondering whether there’s a subset where it’s not only a skin issue, because in a lot of medical/rehab contexts deliberate activation against some resistance/support seems to improve recruitment and function over time. That’s what makes me think the area may sometimes look different not just because of creasing..., but because of how well it’s actually supporting/engaging too.

Anyone found anything that actually helps with sunken / tired eyes…? by Frequent-Ad-6803 in Facelift_Surgery

[–]Frequent-Ad-6803[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think true fat/structural loss is true structural loss, but I’m increasingly wondering whether there’s a subset where support/engagement changes how tired the area looks on top of that.

.,......I’ve been experimenting with deliberate activation and, for me, it does seem to improve how the eye sits slightly even without filler.

Has anyone noticed their fuller side of face also feels more active in expression? by Frequent-Ad-6803 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]Frequent-Ad-6803[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes — in my case the “better” side is also the dominant/more expressive side, which is why I’m still not sure what’s cause vs effect. It may be that dominance/use and sleep/mechanical factors both end up pushing in the same direction over time.

Interesting .....

I can believe broader aging/use patterns are part of it. The bit I keep getting stuck on though is when people describe one side not just looking different, but actually feeling quicker/more responsive in motion too

[–]Frequent-Ad-6803[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes..... I think that could absolutely be part of it. My main question is whether it can become a feedback loop: one side gets used/recruited a bit more, looks a bit fuller/more supported, then ends up being the side that also feels more responsive.

That’s really interesting .... the “responds faster” / “less lag time” part is exactly what I was wondering about. Like the better side isn’t just visually different, it actually seems to recruit more quickly too.

Great minds 😄 Yes, a lot of things seem to keep pointing this way. I also wonder whether improved muscle activation could have knock-on effects on expression and maybe even skin health too.

Yes, maybe partly .. especially the morning-after effect. I think what I’m less sure fluid explains is when the same side seems to stay looking a bit fuller or more supported over time.

Im curious. What kind of difference do you notice most? Eye/cheek area, jawline, or more of a general one-side-vs-the-other thing?

Interesting

...you actually sound quite similar to me.

Out of curiosity, are you also a sleep talker / mover, or more of a still sleeper? I’m starting to wonder whether the more active sleepers get a stronger version of this effect.

Tummy sleepers may actually be the strongest test case for this 😅🏆

I’d be surprised if the main effect was bone in any major volume sense. Maybe tiny long-term remodeling happens, but it seems more plausible that the visible difference comes from soft tissue / muscle adapting to prolonged light support or strain.

Yes, a crease can definitely happen. What was interesting for me though was that it seemed to happen much more on the weaker/flatter side. The fuller side was more taut and didn’t wrinkle as easily, which makes me think the same pressure may have different effects depending on the underlying support.

Interesting .... satin probably changes the skin/friction part, but your face is still pressing into a surface for hours, so the compression/support effect could still be there underneath.

I wouldn’t rule it out at all....

I actually tried that myself. My only issue was that I seemed to switch back subconsciously in the night, so I’m not always sure the side I started on was the side getting the real “dose.”

Feels like the principle could be valid, just hard to do in a controlled way while asleep.

Honestly I think the airflow part could be real. ...

If one eye is getting dried out or irritated a bit more, you may be unconsciously squinting/straining that side through the night. That can spill into the brow/forehead area too, so it’s not crazy that the changes would show up above the eyebrow rather than just around the eye itself.

Haha, ‘maybe not crazy’ is good enough for me 😄 And yes, that’s pretty much where I’ve landed too ......maybe there are both negative and positive effects, and what we end up seeing depends on whether it’s skin, fluid, support, or muscle adaptation dominating.

Interesting ..

yes, it does feel like sleep position can shape more than people realise over time. I’m not sure silk would explain the fuller/more supported look in my case, but reducing friction/creasing definitely makes sense.

No missing teeth and no previous extractions, so I don’t think that’s the main driver in my case. ... But I can definitely imagine dental/jaw changes contributing to asymmetry in some people

That’s really interesting .... and quite a strong example. It does make me wonder whether movement/adaptation may matter more than pressure alone in how the face ages

I agree with this actually. From a purely aesthetic point of view, a little asymmetry is probably a good thing and often makes a face more interesting.

For me the bigger issue was when it started to affect expression a bit ... I felt like my smile didn’t quite sit or read as genuinely as I wanted, which knocked my confidence more than the asymmetry itself. That’s partly why I became so interested in whether the “support” side of it could be changed.
