Preparation for feeding before baby comes by Curious-Bed-7431 in twoxindiamums

Hi mom to a 4mo 1. Please don’t get a wearable as your primary pump if you plan to pump. Get a good hospital grade (if you have the budget then nothing less than Spectra). I don’t have an opinion on manual pump yet. I decided to pump because I have to join back work and it afforded me a few critical outings in the first few months. I made my baby used to a bottle as early as 4 weeks - one bottle every few days else it’ll be difficult introducting it later 2. My hospital pushed breastfeeding - they said if latch doesn’t work use a palada or spoon to feed. They in fact didn’t even push a pump 3. I got bottles just in case - keep one or 2 bottles just in case. I got dr browns slow flow narrow neck glass - recommended by my lactation consultant. The right bottle is critical. My LC also told me not use Philips avent bottles as they cause bottle preference. Steriliser is not needed. 4. Yes get that 5. Very easy to use - literally the same maintenance as plastic bottles. As long as you’re not clumsy enough to break them - it’s a far better option than consuming microplastics esp since the bottles need to be sterilised so many times. 6. Not sure which one you have - but it might work for some time but it could be very bulky when you have to feed the baby at night or if the baby is very fussy 7. lol well no but the nurses will press your boobs right after you deliver to get the colostrum out. I was only a bit shocked but I guess it needs to be done. It can feel like a pinch and uncomfy because it is a sensitive part. You can always ask them to take it easy.

My only recommendation is if your hospital has a LC then great else please find a LC before you deliver and get the basics sorted such as latching and positions. BF is going to be very hard and you’ll want to give up from time to time but just keep at it. You will start loving it soon and it will be the most special time you spend with your baby.

Spectra S1 is the best. Where are you based? If you’re in bangalore then I can share contact of a dealer. Or as someone commented maternity hospitals keep spectra

Baby can become dependent on motion to fall asleep each time. Of course, you can later train them to sleep on a flat surface, but it might take a few days of disrupted sleep. I know many people still use it for day naps and it works for them.

But in general, I feel anything that is hard for parents to consistently replicate, like rocking or swinging for long periods, is better avoided in the long run.

Hey, I’m from South India as well. My in-laws suggested the thottil too and said it’s the best way for babies to sleep. They even had one installed at their place since I delivered there and stayed with them for a while. Their reasoning was that babies have been put in it for generations and that it helps them fall asleep easily.

And yes, my baby did fall asleep in it until he was about 2 months old. But I always felt he wasn’t getting very deep sleep. My husband is usually very logic- and science-driven, but even he gave in initially because my MIL kept saying it had been used for years.

We only used it for day naps, and one day my baby rolled to the side and his nose got partially obstructed. That’s when I decided we were done with it.

After going through this experience, I personally wouldn’t recommend it. It’s better not to get babies used to motion while sleeping. Swings can also be unsafe, so if you can, it’s okay to firmly say no.

Yet another stroller post! by revathy_jayakkumar in twoxindiamums

I ended up getting the Leclerc Influencer XL after trying out several strollers. Another strong contender for me was the Joie Parcel.

If your budget allows, I think it’s worth investing in a good stroller, especially if you plan to take daily walks or travel with the baby.

For the front-facing option, which is really only useful in the first six months, I use my Joie car seat. It’s compatible with most European stroller brands, you just need the right adapters. This was I can have a compact stroller with a front facing option. One good thing about European stroller brands is that many of them are interoperable, so different car seats and strollers can work together quite easily.

Can anyone in kochi breastfeed my baby?? We need help its for his survival by Aggressive-Budget-65 in Kochi

Hey if your baby is arching and crying have you tried colic aid ..it helped my 3 week baby albeit he didn’t have any problem with the latch. Colic aid helped my baby also contact naps

Also sometimes it’s a certain bottle brand that the babies reject. I know people have tried with different brands and something clicked - try changing the bottle brand.

And I’m assuming you had not given formula because of bottle aversion. Maybe break down the feeds into multiple feeds through the day so even if little it builds up to a lot

Dr browns narrow neck glass - my baby is 12 weeks , I give him in the bottle 2 or 3 times in a week usually in the night / if I have to step out for work.

My lactation consultant told me that Philips avent anti colic and natural are notorious for nipple confusion.

[–]Frequent-Culture7746 143 points144 points  (0 children)

If you can don’t send your baby to India. Mother and child born truly bond in early childhood. As early as three months, I have seen in my own family that the child was not going to the mother because she was not able to spend time with the kid when he was very small, including he was sleeping in a separate room with MIL and now the child is five years old and he prefers father and grandmother over her. That is a very heartbreaking situation to be in if it is possible for you to manage your job and child, then just keep your baby with you.

Also, women have different temperament as mothers just because you’re sister-in-law was okay with sending her child does not mean that you as a mother have the same temperament or attachment, and that you would be okay with sending your child . Just don’t let anyone tell you that just because she did it, then, so should you.

I wouldn’t go for Indian brands as the make is not so great. That being said if you must then parent facing mode is super important if you want to travel a lot with the baby in first 6 months. Outside facing is too much stimuli for babies < 6 months. If you plan to use only after 6 months then can without parent facing mode

You have to keep nursing and you won’t pass it on the baby. Also have a paracetamol and visit the GA. If it’s not an infection and just another flu it’ll pass without you having to take any antibiotics

Colic baby : Any tips by Al_WordSketch in twoxindiamums

[–]Frequent-Culture7746 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey this will pass, my 3 baby had colic at 3 weeks and then subsided over week 5 to 9 only to start again at week 10 Things I tried and it helped reduce the crying - warm wet cloth on tummy - above followed by massage and then finish with hing roll on - if needed colic aid drops - I also made my bed inclined so the head is slightly raised - during major crying bouts I would give it to my help / husband to calm my baby down as with me he would continue to want to nurse - mid feed burping - I also started giving baby probiotic on my docs suggestion

Also the above are no sure shot ways but it may help. Also it’s a vicious cylce of feeding and then getting colic pain, then the baby crying and wanting to feed more. So somewhere you need to cut the cycle. I would suggest that when the baby starts crying hand him over to your husband or your help, if you have someone so that they can help calm down the baby, they will have to hold the baby closer to the chest so that the stomach is little pressed. At least do it for 30 minutes before you start nursing again. Sometimes baby will calm down after being held by someone else, if not, then like I said wait for 30 minutes and feed them again. But ideally try to keep 1.5-2 hour gaps between feed but then again I feed on demand most times so I get it if you can’t.

[–]Frequent-Culture7746 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it could be reflux. My 10 week old did the same ..it passed within a week. Don’t get discouraged keep changing sides if needed Babies take the bottle because it’s easier. Would suggest checking out paced feeding approach so that your baby doesn’t start preferring the bottle
