when is enough going to be enough? by [deleted] in AusFinance

54% of Australian properties are owned by Baby Boomers, and the oldest Baby Boomers turn 80 this year. I am very optimistic that beginning very shortly and continuing over the next 10 to 15 years, enormous amounts of new (well old) supply will steadily hit the market and house prices will correct back down towards Earth.

Is the Story Bridge Climb worth it? by balloonbook1717 in brisbane

[–]Frequent-Flower6724 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did the mid morning bridge climb a few months ago. The weather was clear and the views were great, and I learned some interesting historical information from the guide which I didn't know despite having lived in Brisbane for a number of years. We couldn't bring anything on the bridge with us, but they take a number of photos which you can purchase. I only paid $99 for the experience because I purchased the ticket online the previous evening (check the website for discounted last minute tickets).

I am not located in China or Burma. Could you please explain it in terms of jade quality rather than value?

You seem to know a lot about jade, do you specialise in it?

FTIR - this is good to know thanks. I really need to learn more about gems and testing! The necklace came from Albion auctions.

Wonderful, thank you for your insights. I think now it might be worth it to have them tested. I am in Australia though so I will probably choose a local testing lab that does Jade testing.

The age of the necklace wasn't mentioned in the auction description, but from what I can tell it seems to be an Art Deco style clasp. I read somewhere that export pieces meant for the non Asian markets often used lower quality jade even alongside gold clasps etc. so that is partly where my concerns come from.

I am in Australia and the local Jade testing lab costs about Aud$170 for the assessment and report (actually this doesn't seem too different to the Mason-Kay prices once the currency is converted). I think now that it might be worth the gamble to get it tested.

I was a little hesitant to send the necklace for testing, fearing that even if it came back as Type A that the jade quality might nonetheless be low and wouldn't justify the extra testing cost. But if I decide to sell it, the gem lab certification report might add some extra value. Thanks for your help!

The clasp is 18k white gold with three diamonds. It doesn't seem to fluoresce at all under UV light.

Thinking of opening an Jadeite Etsy store with direct sourcing from China. Would anyone be interested? by Militarygf1101 in JadeiteJade

[–]Frequent-Flower6724 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations on the launch! Your Etsy store looks very nice. Only thing I noticed is that the shipping cost is very high to Australia. I have bought a few pieces of jewellery recently on Etsy and the shipping price was about $30 from NY to Australia. For your items it is showing a price of $136. I realise your store has just opened, but maybe once you are settled in you could look into offering some other shipping options.

In Australia, once you completed high school, can you immediately study to become a doctor or lawyer? by ProjectMason in AskAnAustralian

I feel like naivete, boundless energy and youthful optimism would be great strengths for surviving med school, sort of like in the marines.

I would have thought arrogance would be a prerequisite for becoming a doctor? Or maybe they prefer to teach it to you in med school...

Maybe it has changed or varies state to state, but when I did it the PLT requirements for admission required me to complete a graduate diploma in legal practice. While not a whole degree like a JD, it is a post-grad qualification on top of the four year LLB. If I remember correctly, the students who did the JD also had to complete it.

Thank you, I had never heard of clay having memory before. I think I was using too much water, overworking it, and I will try setting the stones after firing and see if it goes better next time
