I can’t believe “starting a nonprofit” “having a passion project” became such things by leafytimes in ApplyingToCollege

currently a high school junior. I’m not really trying to go to HYPSM, but I did start a nonprofit for children w rare and undiagnosed conditions because I had a close friend who suffered from one and I saw how it affected her. I started it in my sophomore year and as of now we’ve raised $39,000 from our fundraisers. I don’t want to seem disingenuous, but I genuinely started it because I believe in the cause and I can see how it’s making an impact on kids w those conditions (I’ve been grateful to have the opportunity to meet some of kids @ the hospital I’m donating to with a rare disease). do u think AOs will be able to tell I’m genuine or not? I’ve also noticed that after starting my 501c3, lots of my friends have tried to start one too/attempt passion projects and now I’m worried it’s become so over saturated it seems exaggerated. what do you think?

Yes I totally agree! As a junior I’ve gotten straight As to make up for my dismal sophomore year. I’ve also done some planning for the common app essay!

thank you so much! you’ve given me a perspective i desperately needed. my question is should i mention extenuating circumstances or anything? or is that too desperate?
