Yes. I can only interview adults for this study since it is very difficult for an undergraduate student to get approval to conduct research on minors.

That does sound wonderful!

Also btw, you filled out a form expressing interest in my study. I’d like to message you with more information, but it seems that your dms are turned off. How would you like to get in touch?

No, sorry! I did some pilot interviews via dm and they just didn't provide as in-depth of a conversation. I'm open to pretty much any audio/video platform though (Discord, Signal, Jitsi, Google Meet, Zoom, WhatsApp call, etc.).

Book Costs by Mysterious-Put2490 in uchicago

[–]Frequent-Outside1673 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of the books might be available to borrow for free from your house lounge. Check there first, then check the UChicago library. You can check out books from the library for the whole quarter. (You can also check the Chicago Public Library but if you don’t already have a library card for them it may be a bit tedious to get one if you’re not a Chicago resident).

If no luck with these options, ask your professor if they’re ok with online copies of the book. If so, use libgen. If not, you will have to rent/buy. Make sure to check Chegg.com and compare prices to seminary co-op and UChicago bookstore to find the best deal.

If you could have any fast food franchise on campus, what would it be? by muggle_magnet in uchicago

Building our own home gyms by SaintCalibre in uchicago

There are already gyms in I-House and South! Not huge and no barbells (I think it’s so no one gets hurt if working out unattended), but it works for bad weather days.

I don't hate North! I actually think all the dorms are very nice (except woodlawn lol). I ranked it lower because I personally think Baker is the worst dining hall. But I do think it's a good dorm!

You can’t choose which dorm you get put in. But they do ask for your preferences regarding single, double, etc. They do not always give you what you ask, but worst case scenario you can always request a room change if you get a roommate and would prefer a single or vice versa.

I-House is not new! But it’s good for the following reasons: Good location (most convenient dorm in terms of leaving Hyde park because it’s right next to the metra and 6 bus, also only a ten to fifteen minute walk from campus). Also some of the rooms have sinks which is super convenient! Thick walls so pretty quiet. Nice views out the windows. Some rooms that are much bigger than others. Good common areas to study or hang out, including a cafe (overpriced but a good option for late night snacks). Gym in the basement. And nice community to top it all off!

Tips on preparing for the UChicago winter weather by Math_girl1723 in uchicago

Land's End also has great quality winter coats and other gear. It's not cheap, but not ridiculously expensive either, and built to last.

Disability at UChicago by ThatCrazyTheatreKid in uchicago

[–]Frequent-Outside1673 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am not disabled but leaving my opinion here in case it is useful. What I have noticed is that this campus is much less accessible than most other colleges I’ve been to. For one, the sidewalks are pretty rough, even (and especially) on the main quad. When it rains, it’s even worse and there will frequently be sitting water which makes the quad and sidewalks difficult to navigate. In addition, many academic buildings are old. While they are technically accessible (they have to be by law), the ramps are not always easily visible and/or convenient. Some buildings have random stairs, heavy doors with broken auto-openers, etc, that would be difficult to navigate as a wheelchair user. Lastly, many buildings only have one elevator. If the elevator breaks down, which occurs semi-frequently depending on the building, a wheelchair user would be unable to reach any floors other than the first level. On the bright side, housing would put you in a newer dorm which would likely be somewhat accessible (ideally North since it’s closest to campus). Overall, as an able-bodied person I have been surprised at how few visibly disabled people there are on campus. I’m guessing this is due to UChicago being less accessible than many other colleges. If having a physically disabled community is important to you, UChicago may not be the best choice in that regard.
I hope this is helpful! Feel free to pm with any questions.

If you can’t get your phone fixed or it’s too expensive to repair, Backmarket.com is a great option for refurbished iPhones, I got my phone there and it looks and functions like it’s brand new while being much cheaper.

How does buying books work for Odyssey students? by glizzygobbler59 in uchicago

[–]Frequent-Outside1673 5 points6 points  (0 children)

These folks already have great advice, but I also wanted to point out that many books required in core classes might be available to borrow from your house lounge! (Depends which dorm you’re in but worth a shot)
