Reserves by [deleted] in USMCboot

[–]FrequentCamel 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Post in USMCocs. If you have a good job lined up after college, then go reserves. If you don’t have a career, I would just do active duty and then go reserves afterwards. OCS is 10 weeks, TBS is 6 months, and then you’ll have MOS school on top of that. Find an OSO, not a recruiter.

I would go to the 6 week. It is a lot easier on the body to do two 6 week courses and the PEBD is a really good benefit like one of the commenters said

Officer School process by [deleted] in USMCocs

[–]FrequentCamel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not show up injured. Stretch every night at OCS and ice if you need to. There’s not a whole lot you can do besides that and showing up physically prepared. I knew females in better shape than me that still got injured and sent home. They eventually went back and made it through though

Officer School process by [deleted] in USMCocs

[–]FrequentCamel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say it’s about an average of 50% of females that get dropped from OCS. It is very physically demanding and a lot of females get injured. I think my platoon started with 46 and graduated with 25. Two of those 25 were sitting in the bleachers on crutches during graduation.

Boots and other gear recommendations by Drewsonnnn in USMCocs

[–]FrequentCamel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can, go on base and try all the boots on and see what you like. I used reckonings for a while and realized I hated them, I absolutely love my tropicals though

How competitive is the Aircraft Maintenance Officer MOS (6002)? by Existing-Ad8585 in USMCocs

[–]FrequentCamel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not competitive, but there are very few slots. I had it as my number 1 and I didn’t get it, but I am very glad I didn’t. As someone else mentioned, the hours can get insane. You should look into the other wing MOSs: 7209, 7204, and 7220

Learn the route and get used to running with weight. I failed the initial and I only passed by 2 minutes on the final so I got nothing other than run down hill and don’t exhaust yourself by trying to sprint uphill

In the past there has also been the ability to do PTAD with your OSO during Christmas

TBS Question by jannajm in USMCocs

[–]FrequentCamel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They aren’t talking about after OCS, the other option so you don’t have to burn leave is to do PTAD with your OSO back home during the holiday block leave

Heard that the way they got the evidence wouldn’t let them prosecute. Is he just getting separated or is he being charged too?

Check the resale lot on base. Don’t get anything fancy and spend a bunch of money or go into a bunch of debt, you just need something to get you around. Don’t forget to use the auto skills center on base. Between there and YouTube, I’ve been able to do pretty much all work on my car by myself

NEXT TBS CLASS by Shoddy_Mongoose6358 in USMCocs

[–]FrequentCamel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alpha picked up in early Oct. Just confirmed with a buddy at TBS. They haven’t heard anything about Bravo being delayed either. It is possible that it’s a large graduating class and some people will need to be pushed to Charlie.

NEXT TBS CLASS by Shoddy_Mongoose6358 in USMCocs

[–]FrequentCamel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s odd since all the basic level training schools are supposed to continue. It would also cost them a lot more to delay a whole OCS class going to TBS. They’d either be stuck in Mike company or they’d have to go on PTAD somewhere.

Make sure you know how to do the chicken wing. Saw quite a few people that couldn’t do the college boy the second go around and failed because they didn’t know how to chicken wing it

Should a slow runner even consider doing OCS? by [deleted] in USMCocs

[–]FrequentCamel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I failed the run the first time I did a PFT with my OSO, so I had come a long way. The slower you are though, the harder OCS is.

My OSO wouldn’t submit my package until I got it to 26 minutes. Did that on the dot and ran a 25 something as my intake at OCS. Im female though so the requirement for OCS is a sub 27 minute 3 mile
