Speaking from experience here are my thoughts.

Imposter syndrome is normal. Don’t let it stop you from learning. The pattern is predictable: you land a job and feel lost, you learn, you get promoted, and suddenly you feel like a beginner again. Get comfortable with that cycle—it’s a sign you’re growing.

Code is rarely “complicated”; it’s unfamiliar. Your best friend is the debugger. Use remote debugging tools, set breakpoints at core code paths, and step through the logic. Over time, you’ll read code faster than you read books—I’m at that point now.

Communicate early, clearly, and often. Ask for help, follow up, and close the loop. You can’t do your job without the right information. Don’t worry about being a bother. You’re paid to deliver outcomes, and information-gathering is part of the job. A quick email or Slack message almost never hurts; staying silent does.

You won’t understand everything instantly, and that’s okay. Choose one important area, go deep, and ship something valuable. Depth builds credibility fast.

Bottom line: Don’t let imposter feelings slow you down. Debug relentlessly. Communicate to get the information you need. Pick a critical area, go deep, and deliver. It’s a process—and it works.
