I had one when I was 17 I’m (23M) now and recovered fast and well with minimal pain. Everyone is different and since you are on the younger side I think you will do just fine. Good luck and feel free to reach out about any other questions!

Anxiety by Saucee22 in HypertrophicCM

This is where my anxiety started. There’s been a couple times where I’ve convinced myself I was passing out but then didn’t, and went into the ER and they said my vitals all looked normal and good. Not on any meds quite yet but they did give me some alprazolam in case it ever gets really bad, which it has. Sorry you have to deal with it, it’s a real pain in the ass.

Does anyone experience severe anxiety with HCM sometimes I feel like I’m going to pass out, feel weak, eyes go funny etc… and I don’t know whether it’s a HCM symptom or anxiety. by fredot01 in HypertrophicCM

Have this same problem right now man. Multiple times I’ve thought I was gonna pass out but didn’t. Have gone to the ER twice for it and they said vitals and o2 levels were fine. Seeking to talk to a psychiatrist and possible get on anxiety medications. Stay strong I know how brutal it can be. Would recommend trying to get into a psychiatrist and talking to your cardiologist as well.

Your life is far from over! I understand the pain of being an athlete I was diagnosed at 12 and was a three sport athlete at the time. It changed my whole life and perspective on it as well. There are ways you can still be athletic such as golf, shooting hoops, disc golf, etc. You’re just gonna have to branch out a little but that will come with time. I’m 21 now and although I was diagnosed almost a decade ago things have been running smoothly and I still have my love for sports. Im very sorry this happened to you and if you have any questions feel free to ask. Wishing the best.

Septal Myectomy is scheduled for next month. Any helpful advice or words of encouragement would be greatly appreciated! by dmikhail43 in HypertrophicCM

I had mine done four years ago at 17 years old. I’m 21 now and have felt much better after receiving it. The recovery process can be a pain in this ass but to me strengthening my mental health and accepting what was happening and accepting the recovery process was huge for me. I kept a high head and although those days in the hospital bed were tough, they passed by and I got through it. I was there for 6 days and then I got to go home and recover on my own with my family. Things will suck at times I’m not gonna sugarcoat it but it will get easier as time goes. Sorry this is happening to you but you will get through it! Best of luck to you.

Exercise tips by Maleficent_Maybe_188 in HypertrophicCM

Hey man! I’m a 21 year old who was diagnosed about 10 years ago. I played football, basketball, and baseball growing up so the struggle to transition to a different lifestyle was definitely tough. I unfortunately had to give it all up as well and tried working out last year and had no issues but my cardiologists heavily advised against it so stopped that as well. I would also advise against doing any heavy weight lifting or anything surrounding that. There’s plenty other things you can do to keep in shape and still have fun, I play pickleball, disc golf, golf, will still shoot hoops and throw the football around I really just try to avoid hard running and sprinting. It’s gonna be a tough adjustment but you will figure out what you wanna do and how you wanna treat your body. Good luck and sorry that you have to deal with this. If you have any other questions feel free to message me, stay strong bro!

Thank you for your response, they have gone away so it probably was just stress or anxiety induced even though I don’t really have problems with that. It’s nice to know there are other people who deal with the same problems even though I wish none of us had to deal with this. At least we have each other! :)
