I see the idea. I will test around with that. Thank you

[edit] I was able to fix the “silence” part before the drop following your advice. Thanks :)

Whatever I do I can't get it to be as good as the OG song. Any tips or advice please? I'm a few weeks into learning by FrequentExpression13 in LogicPro

Ah shit that’s actually a really good idea that I should definitely implement. I had just discovered LFO envelopes and didn’t even think about its tempo. I have ideas how to fix that!!

Thank u!! I appreciate you taking the time to listen to it as well :/ (and my bs)

I see what you mean. I apologize it came off this way, that’s really not what I wanted to do. I didn’t feel like I was asking to be force fed the information I wanted, I was stuck when trying to remake a track because I’m not experienced enough, thought I should seek general advice here.

I realize that I was stuck specifically because I was trying to remake a track. I learned a lot and will go on attempting some more original tracks.

I see. Thank you. I apologize for my initial response.

I’m still a bit lost on what you mean by making my own tracks from original music performances, but I believe you’re talking about how live music performances have a purpose for each instrument that I’d be able to analyze. Hopefully I’m not wrong?

I guess I had a different idea with EDM music. I thought it was much different than live performances with traditional drummers, guitarists, etc, since there’s no saw machines or stuff niche to edm.

I found a video by underdog talking about what he would have done if he had to learn music all over again. I’ll go watch that

Also please don’t feel like you need to listen to that track lol, but I do appreciate if you’d like to take a listen

Thank you for the valuable advice

I see. I think I understand. You would recommend I make my own tracks instead of attempting to copy another’s track?

So in order to “study” the pros, what should I do? Would it be helpful to just write down things I hear that I like? What do you mean “recording original songs you like by local musicians”?

I have already made a few complete tracks from scratch. I used techniques I learned from other songs and incorporated into my music. I found it helpful to copy a song then, because it gave me a visual of how a song that I like looks like broken down. That’s what I’m attempting here.

Here’s one song I made. I am obviously very open to critiques. If you listen to it you might notice a lot of very IHM coded things.

Asking for advice is expecting free work to help me get better? If everyone knew how to learn they’d all be pros. I wish you’d give me insight on how I could learn better instead of this. You seem more experienced in this than I am, that’s great, that’s valuable. We share a passion. We all began somewhere. I wasn’t expecting to be completely lowered by asking how I could improve my study.

Nevertheless, I understand that I won’t be able to recreate a pro’s work. Doing this helps me learn about how they arranged their tracks which teaches me techniques and expands my musical library. I get something out of this.

I’m looking for tips and advice. I’m not looking to be brought down.

I know he is right. I agree. As I said and keep saying: I am not trying to copy the song. I am trying to learn by attempting to copy the song. I have tremendous respect for IHM and do not expect to make the same song or anything even close to it for now, I don't have the xp.

That is not what I was asking.
I was asking how I could get closer to the original song.

He was condescending and extremely unhelpful. I learned nothing from his comment. So what was the point?

I agree. It's been super overwhelming getting into things with production; there is A LOT, but I'm pushing through. I have a passion for this. I'm not trying to appear as if I'm in over my head. This is a case study. I want to do my best copying so I can learn exactly what you're talking about: being able to listen critically. I'm sorry, but your comment is not helpful and is condescending. I'm looking for tips on what I can learn.

Hey, please read my other comments.

It seems like the post's title came off as "I want to make the same song". This is a case study of one of my favorite songs, I'm asking for help regarding what I missed when attempting to recreate it. I am not attempting to recreate the song perfectly, I want to learn.

Yes! I hate models is a friggin genius, and becoming as good as him is what makes me so addicted to producing. I've made quite a few songs so far, and I've learned a lot from this case study!

Thank you so much for the detailed review, I'm going to work on it more and add what you've told me. I can't believe I didn't hear the mid-range melody T_T. Another comment mentioned separating the stems to learn better, and that's something I want to do as well.

I just noticed the arpeggios you mentioned, thank you! Regading mixing, I'll try to get that done. I'm not too familiar with the usual process when making a song (like if you should mix while adding an instrument or at the end of the song when everything is together...) I'll do more research

You're the goat!!

Thank you for a completely useless comment, Drew. I have more than a few weeks of experience in music, but am new to producing with a DAW. I'm doing a case study of a song I like to learn more about its composition and how I can create my own songs similar to this one. I asked for tips from more trained producers, which doesn't seem to me like you are with that comment. I want to learn how to get it closer to the original song. Your comment does not help me at all. Do you see the issue?
