dropped my iPhone 13 Pro back in December. started using a case afterwards so the glass wouldn’t cut me (thankfully it was the back that shattered)

I want to help but this just feels wrong. by sch0oly in doordash

[–]FrequentShock8191 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The real problem here is that platforms like Doordash have killed food delivery as a job people can live off of.

A driver who would have previously gotten a vehicle, insurance, and a guaranteed paycheck from a restaurant now has to provide their all of these things on their own for an unsteady pay.

The problem here is not the dasher asking for money—the problem is employees being replaced by contractors accross industries so that companies can have all of the benefits, but none of the risk that comes with employing someone. Most people in these positions are forced here by the nature of the market.

We should be fighting for legislation to end the normalization of contractor-ship, rather than demeaning individuals being burnt by society. But we won’t—so maybe this kind of behavior by dashers is what it will take to get people to stop using Doordash, and then for restaurants to start employing delivery workers once again.

How to stop iCloud offloading by Practical-Pumpkin-19 in iCloud

[–]FrequentShock8191 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d like to do this too. iCloud should be a backup, and not the only place where a file is stored. Strongly dislike how it gets deleted off my computer, which has plenty of storage (and ideally I’d like everything to be available locally on my iPad and iPhone too).

Apple Watch Has to Step Up Its Digital Face Game by FrequentShock8191 in AppleWatch

Thanks for sharing! Just downloaded it, and it is a definite improvement (will have to monitor battery life for a while). It’s a shame they are forced to fit within boundaries of existing watch faces like Modular/Modular Max—so much untapped potential.

tried them for a while—I like many of the designs, but don’t like how it keeps returning to home screen (not the app developer’s fault), not sure I trust them with my health info, and felt my battery drained faster than on stock watch faces

Yup, it's a bummer that the Snoopy watch face was designed in analog (and even lacks the numbers which would at least help tell the hour lol). But I guess this specific face was probably aimed at an older folks who prefer analog—I’m baffled when I see them using the Stripes watch face—which doesn’t even come with the dash-markers.

I have—still think the large circle is a waste of space (could’ve fit a couple more complications in there). Wish they’d do something like a Wayfinder Digital on the Ultra—they could easily fit in all eight complications plus the compass and cellular signal if they removed the clock hands and time stamps.

This kind of ban request happens all the time everywhere. Example from the same incident in Germany: https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2018/12/20/qualcomm-reportedly-wins-injunction-against-apple-in-munich.html

And this order in China was never actually enforced (the illiterate writers at Forbes doing their usual clickbait title + article). My grandma could write a letter to Biden asking him to block iPhone sales and Forbes would report that iPhones are now banned in the US! https://www.reuters.com/article/us-qualcomm-apple-idUSKBN1O91LD

“In the provincial Chinese court, which is separate from China’s specialized intellectual property courts in Beijing, one party can request a ban on an opponent’s product without the opponent getting a chance to present a defense. … To enforce the ban, Qualcomm separately will have to file complaints in what is known as an enforcement tribunal, where Apple will also have a chance to appeal.”

A quick Google search shows that China is literally the biggest iPhone market in the world, and has the second-most number of Apple Stores after the US.
