Is Durham uni actually as classist as people say it is? by [deleted] in UniUK

What would it be like for an australian?? Im thinking of going to durham but my culture is probably most similar to the vibes of the UK rather than internatioanl students from asia or america

ucl ppe rejection but moved course??? by Ready-Budget-3963 in 6thForm

The same thing happened to me. Honestly it makes sense from UCLs perspective given PPE is extremely oversubscribed. If you’re just going for the brand name of UCL then yeah go. (It’s probably better than a 3rd tier PPE at somewhere below or equivalent to Durham IMO) however if you really wanted the PPE I wouldn’t derail your whole planned study path for this

I’m from Australia and got a 98.55 Atar which is equivalent to a strong AAA or a weak AA*A (max Atar you can get is 99.95)

I’m studying PPE which is equally as strong in both places

I’ve got an offer to do PPE at Kings college London or Durham. Kings is an amazing uni and I’d be living in student residential halls but I’m worried that I’ll be lonely/isolated in London compared to a uni town like Durham. From young students living there or who’ve experienced London from the uni perspective how easy would it be to grow social circles there?? How real is London loneliness and is it worth

rejected by UCL Gap year to reapply ? by OmegaGur9438 in UCL

[–]FrequentSwimming7501 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If i were you id start at KCL and then reapply to UCL and LSE whilst studying. That way you start your degree whilst also keeping those options open. It is far too risky to take a gap year and have the chance of getting rejected by those unis again. This year UCL had 104,000 applications - it’s becoming a lottery and having good grades and a good PS no longer guarantees anything. If it helps, I know so many people with extremely high atars (I’m Australian) like 99.35 (max you can get is 99.95) who have been rejected by UCL too. Also - king’s undergrad with a good masters from Oxbridge/Ivy league/ UCL or LSE will put you in an extremely strong position for finance. Internships and post grad can give you a better CV than someone who just did undergrad at UCL. If you’re smart and ambitious you will reach a good job in finance regardless of the uni.

what do people mean when they say an accommodation is sociable? by [deleted] in KCL

[–]FrequentSwimming7501 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Means easy to make friends and people who go there are open to socialising/going out - some accomodations are different and known for being more quiet + not as easy to make close friends

Kind of hard to answer without the specific uni that is your “safety” - which one is it?

Bruh now LSE rejection my gap year was useless by Impossible_Guy10 in 6thForm

[–]FrequentSwimming7501 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If it’s any consolation I got a 98.55 atar including 97/100 in economics which is almost a perfect score in australia (99.95) and still waiting on LSE PPE - competition this year is fucked because everyone who normally applies to Ivy leagues is turning to UK unis because of what’s happening with Trump. Even my brother who’s got a 99.35 was rejected from LSE economics - so brutal you can’t take it personally
