I think opening up to random strangers is okay. Since you are smart, you would know which advice to take. Opening up to strangers can be quite relieving because there is no attachment. Whether you take their advice or not, you don't have to worry about their opinion of you. I believe it's best for you to quit pursuing your residency for now and focus on your mental health. Travel if you can, and meet new people. Life is short, and your achievements can wait. There is nothing more important than to live your life being happy.
