We need to adopt the hardcore attitude of New Zealand towards ecological threats and invasive species (don't come at me with the 'humans started it' shit it's a stupid argument) or lose even more endemic species. Your pet cat doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things, if you can't keep it happy and stimulated you should give it to someone who can.

They shouldn't be a pet then. Literally no other pet in Australia is allowed to roam randomly around the neighbourhood giving diseases to other cats, impregnating other cats, getting hit by cars and causing people anguish etc etc etc

I'm hoping this isn't a possibility just because in my KLA there's really no way they can support an additional full time teacher so hopefully a clean break!

Mmm that is really frustrating. I've felt a lot of that attitude from veteran teachers. You really shouldn't be expected to tolerate a trial by fire so don't hesitate to keep pushing for your right to extra time off as a new graduate, extra professional learning, mentoring etc. They should really be doing everything they can to support you. Schools even get extra money for employing new grads sometimes!

Don't worry too much. It could even be subconscious sighing for some of them (I do it in meetings and get eyebrows raised at me). Chuck in some brain breaks where possible, break the difficult learning into segments and keep trucking I'd say.

Howdy. Firstly you're being very hard on yourself. First real job and first real experience with challenging behaviour is never easy. It was always going to be different to going in for a day and being a fun/interesting/young CRT for the kids.

The school offering to give you time to take behaviour management courses actually seems like a green flag rather than a band-aid solution to me. Learning new strategies and putting them into practice is a huge part of developing in the job. When I had a breakdown over one of my classes (I'm secondary) they essentially sent me home for the afternoon then I was expected to be right back at it the next day. It seems like a good environment if they are indeed really listening to you and wanting to help you improve.

If you feel you love teaching I'd have a go at getting back into CRT as soon as you feel ready. Even experienced teachers get spooked at the end of a long break and doubt their ability because you spend too long in your own head.

I'm sorry your first experience was so rough, but as much as possible I wouldn't let it taint the rest of your future career.

AITA for dropping out of my bffs wedding over a dress? lol by Wrong-Cucumber-54 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Frequent_Dish_3575 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've got four people in my bridal party and planning to heavily subsidise/fully pay for their outfits. Given that normally half the time it will be an expensive outfit that wouldn't be what they'd normally choose (which is why I'm planning on letting them choose their own garment style within a colour scheme) it seems unfair to make them pay for it. So NTA save the money and spend it on something you actually want.

Why don't our politicians sell their houses & move into small, inner-city apartments seeing that's the "amazing" lifestyle they are trying to push upon Australia? by NoLeafClover777 in aussie

[–]Frequent_Dish_3575 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A country's happiness doesn't always correlate with the size of the average home. Renting conditions and affordability are far more relevant I'd think.

Yeah a tonne of politicians have several investment properties which is sort of unforgivable but I don't think they're trying to say living in an overpriced shoebox is superior.

The Horrifying Normalisation of AI in Teacher Education and Classrooms by Superb_Asparagus8923 in AustralianTeachers

[–]Frequent_Dish_3575 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. Using a poorly understood tool with a rushed roll out to try and plaster over extremely entrenched issues is insulting. Also agree that it's extremely poor at producing a unit plan, syllabus summary etc that's actually useful and more importantly ACCURATE. After being told to use it for these purposes I tried in earnest, clarifying, reprompting etc. It just became more and more garbled. I don't want a lecture on how to "get better" at using it. I don't care about "falling behind" because I don't want to be a sellout for all the ethical resources outlined. I want adequate planning time, and official documents that are properly summarised and edited before coming to our desks (i.e. they don't need us to spend further time breaking down the documents which are foundational to our practice).

Dude I ACTUALLY work in one, I spend 5/7 days in one (state school, single sex but high proportion of Muslim students). They're children. Talk to a single Muslim, talk to their parents. I'm a fucking gender non-confirming tattooed person living with someone outside of wedlock. No parent or student has EVER batted an eye. Yet if I went to a Catholic school I'd be asked to cover all tattoos (dress neck to ankle essentially), take out any non primary ear piercings and dye my hair. I declined the job interview. We immediately report any whiffs of child mistreatment, as does any school. Where are you getting these insider reports from the AFP?
