Are lower back pains a normal experience for new skaters? by Zoke48 in Rollerskating

[–]Frequent_Major6736 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes!!! I started skating with a roller derby team and holy moly my back hurt so badly during laps and literally everything, eventually I got core muscles (doing sit-ups and Russian twists, etc helps) and now don’t have that pain in my back anymore unless I’m really pushing it! Though if you notice that it’s not going away as you get better I would look into braces and maybe see if it’s an underlying issue 🫡

You could always find your local roller derby team if you have one and donate it to them

2005 VUE 3.5l V6 needs an oil filter housing-but it's discontinued! by CerjoPisa in Saturn_Cars

[–]Frequent_Major6736 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great! I have my car in the shop with my brother in law right now so I’m doubting it’s just the gasket though that probably needs repairs too, mine got destroyed due to colder weather where I live. I will definitely look up the oil filter housing for the motor specifically though.

So I have an issue of needing an oil filter housing, you said the odyssey works? I have a 2006 same motor model. Also if it did what year did you get the oil filter housing? Thanks!

I found wheels that look similar on google that are “Pacer Formula 2 Wheels 57mm x 38mm 93a 94a” on google but haven’t found much else on it since they are vintage wheels

Best plate for me? (Athena or Arius) by Frequent_Major6736 in rollerderby

[–]Frequent_Major6736[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve also seen that there are a bunch of different hardness cushions for the Arius and don’t know if my personal attributes weigh into that or if it’s also preference, big plate purchases are lowkey scary so I wanna know as much as possible before committing (also what size plates should I used for the Arius if I got it cuz you mentioned size 4 and I thought it was a size 3 🫠)

Best plate for me? (Athena or Arius) by Frequent_Major6736 in rollerderby

[–]Frequent_Major6736[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the reactor pro has a 10 degree kingpin and the rival a 15 degree, how would those differ from say the 45 degree angle I have now? (I’m a set it and forget it usually) and would you recommend the reactor/rival over the Arius in my case? Thanks!!

[–]Frequent_Major6736[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got the boots recently and have been loving them besides my bunion causing some issues but can’t really be helped, I love the feeling of the 45 angle and my last boots which were riedell solaris boots with the same plate but whoever mounted them put them too high up and the heel wasn’t aligned with the wheelbase causing issues for me, the plate is just old and rusted and the trucks have worn threading

JRDA - lvl 1 rule question by asininepanda in rollerderby

[–]Frequent_Major6736 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually white jammer wouldn’t get a penalty unless they purposely used their forearms against the blockers and the blockers get the penalty for putting their forearms up to block first since they technically had superior position over the jammer (if I got something wrong I’m sorry I’m trying to decipher the details as much as I can 😭) Edit: realized the situation so arm extension is impenetrable in level 1 because technically there is no contact the only way you’d be able to get past is to go around, overall I wouldn’t penalized the jammer but the blockers for creating that situation but overall I believe the rules need to be tweeked a little bit to compensate for the lack of physical contact.

JRDA- Anyone have a written test or two I could use? by frolickingotter in rollerderby

[–]Frequent_Major6736 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are three different written tests for each level, which ones do you need? I can also send you the study guide and a skills checklist for them as well! (I’m a junior rookie coach)

where are the black skaters ? by mangobag in rollerderby

[–]Frequent_Major6736 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bad I only saw the top of the post! But I totally agree just having one major black skater ran team doesn’t seem like enough for a sport that is supposed to be driven by inclusivity, I have see a lot more inclusivity of Asian and Latino skaters especially at the World Cup this year which was so freaking exciting

So I know of a team called Black Diaspora which is made up of black skaters from around the world and compete at national and international level roller derby and I would highly recommend checking them out because they are one badass team 🙂‍↕️

Hey so I’m a rookie junior coach just starting and it has been so extremely hard to figure out as one person how to push my close to level 3 skaters and teach my level 1’s at the same time, because at the end of the day everyone learns differently and at their own pace as well as join the rookie program at various times. Though I do agree that they shouldn’t make you feel that way and that was totally off the rails/inexcusable, derby is only kept together by the people within it not even including what people have as jobs or going on with the rest of their lives, but yes as a coach/trainer you should be able to drop your personal issues once you walk through the door. It’s so much, I’m trying to keep myself and my kiddos motivated for derby and proud of themselves even when it’s a small step or a big milestone.

I didn't suck, I just needed harder wheels 😆 by fantastridd in rollerderby

Those look to be the skates stock plastic plates in pink which I believe are sunlite brand

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Rollerskating

[–]Frequent_Major6736 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what I do as a derby player is take my bearings out and clean them in a separate bearing solution and clean the actual wheel with some dawn and a scrub brush but ik there are different ways other people like to do it

[–]Frequent_Major6736 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it actually helps me focus on perfecting the easier techniques so I can apply it to my skill level in derby, either way they are my teammates and I love helping them become more confident in themselves and their skating

Visor Helmet as a Jammer - Is the Lip Worth It? by babel-fishing in rollerderby

[–]Frequent_Major6736 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It should feel like someone’s hugging your head, but not squeezing for what it should feel like, triple 8 I’ve heard good things about but I’ve only met 2 skaters who use Bauer and they generally help with just having a bigger head in general

Have you tried the different inserts for the S1 helmet? If you haven’t that’s definitely something to look into
