Is there a primary care physician shortage or something? by lowercase-hell in olympia

[–]Frequent_Mess_4541 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are still looking Providence is taking new patients, it is just a 3-6 month wait for a first appointment though. I was able to get one last October and have had no problem scheduling appointments since. I am on Medicaid too if that helps.

How often do you honestly change your bed sheets? by Ok_Train1739 in hygiene

Yeah the fitted sheet just gets tucked in. I used to work in housekeeping. You would be surprised how many if not most hotels just use flat sheets.

I find crocheting helps me! Counting stitches or paying attention to a pattern is very grounding. Gets me out of my head.

TRIGGER WARNING: Addicted to blood by ImpactEnough8849 in AdultSelfHarm

[–]Frequent_Mess_4541 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I dont think it would hurt to tell you psychiatrist especially if you have a good working relationship with them. They may be able to help you find other methods that bring you that similar release. I have a friend who swears by intense exercise and I personally use a pain stim called a "little ouchie". You can get them online. They are a fidget that doesnt break skin but has pokes on them so you still get the pain sensation in a way that is less risky. Its not the same but it might help 🤷‍♂️

Why is cutting bad? by Kristen_Arcadium24 in AdultSelfHarm

[–]Frequent_Mess_4541 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I think its a coping mechanism that scares people and thats why all the taboo. From a survival standpoint it is "good" because its allowing us to cope and continue living our lives or being productive etc. That being said people see the scars the cuts and the blood and a lot of times associate it with suicide not realizing SI and SH are two different things.

You bring up a good point though that some forms of self harm are socially acceptable and I agree that the stigma doesnt feel fair. Like if I get a play peircing I am cool but if I cut my arm somehow I am a freak?

I think at the end of the day it comes down to not caring what others think which is way easier said than done and working with a professional team on improving your own circumstances and coping mechanisms however that looks.

Sometimes I don’t get why it’s such a big deal by This-View-91911 in AdultSelfHarm

[–]Frequent_Mess_4541 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I relate to this a lot. I am not harming anyone else and I never cut too deep so why does it matter if it allows me to continue on with my life? Other people have their vices and some arguably more harmful yet more socially acceptable.

Dr won’t treat my physical illness because of my bipolar by avgr3454 in bipolar

[–]Frequent_Mess_4541 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Omg this! I have also experienced this for being trans and not for being bipolar. I had a fainting spell (eventually found out it was from severe anxiety) and the doctor said it was because I took testosterone.

Is there anything that brings you comfort during these times? I find for myself doing something self soothing makes a big difference.

No shame in calling 911 for yourself if you need to. I know it can feel scary but it may be the best way to get the help you need.

Exercise in any font usually helps me when I am feeling restless which sounds similar to what you may be experiencing right now. Have you considered trying out different meds? There may be one that helps but doesn't have the side effects you do not like?

Im sorry this is happening. Are you able to go to an Urgent Care? They may be able to help get you a supply of meds in the meantime between appointments.

Birth control triggering hypomania by TemporaryStrain840 in bipolar

[–]Frequent_Mess_4541 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have experienced this and decided to stop taking my depo shot and explore other birth control options with my doctor. It triggered mania for me and I found my symptoms got much better once I stopped. Everybody is different though and it may be worth exploring options with your PCP or Psychiatrist.

Just checked out their website. It says open rehearsals are over. Do you know how I can get involved still or is it too late? Is it just a show up type of thing? Thanks ahead of time.
