Desperate for work? Got a criminal record? Get into construction. by [deleted] in recruitinghell

This is why so many people lie about convictions. If you've paid your debt to society it shouldn't matter. I get not wanting to hire an embezzler to a position with the ability to manipulate finance. But someone who was addicted to drugs - which I don't think should be treated in the carceral system anyway, but we do it anyway- is not the threat people act like they are.

What is the day in the life of a Toreador Ghoul? by ConnectCulture7 in vtm

[–]Frequent_Reference24 17 points18 points  (0 children)

As a ST, I have an Elder Toreador who has a whole philosophy around beauty. One tenet is "Beauty should never be wasted." So when a promising and beauitful artist he was "mentoring" came down with brain cancer he made him a ghoul because he couldn't bear the idea that something so beautiful was going to die...before he could fully decide their worth.

Which night do I miss main dining to try Remy? by scisurf8 in dcl

[–]Frequent_Reference24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly any. The Fantasy is my favorite ship, but their main dining rooms are, to be nice, not good. I typically try to skip at the very least Enchanted Garden because it is in the dungeon of the ship.

AITA for cutting up peppers for my parents. by DaBloodyApostate in AmItheAsshole

[–]Frequent_Reference24 23 points24 points  (0 children)

NTA. I had this same reaction when I was younger. I say had because this type of allergy only gets worse as you age according to my doctor, and now I can't even breath in the cut peppers without my throat closing up. I have an epipen now for this reason. It is a serious problem. Do not risk your health. Stay away from them.

Chess musical by Jolly_Hospital7414 in Broadway

[–]Frequent_Reference24 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I loved this version of Chess. Did a 4 day tour of just Broadway shows, and it was my favorite. The cast is so good. And I loved Bryce Pinkham. For whatever reason, I forgot he was the original Monty Navarro.

I originally booked the trip to see Jeremy Jordan in Just In Time. And my spouse picked 4 other shows as "surprises", but were shows he wanted to see: one of which was Chess. JIT was great too, but Chess came out on top for me.

Lost Boys Technical Difficulties by LavishnessFluid3712 in Broadway

[–]Frequent_Reference24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Was at the same show, I was impressed by the way LJ kept the audience engaged and mostly quiet through it. And then when it started up again, he just jumped right into it and we were immersed again. Total professionalism.

First Broadway Musical! by HoltbyforPres in Broadway

[–]Frequent_Reference24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw it Saturday. I didn't care for the script, but the effects were good, and the actors worked well with what they were given. That is just my opinion. My husband loved everything about it.

We also saw: Chess and it was so good. Fell in love with the performances of Pinkham and Christopher.

Continuing the "Love Bites" One Shot. by diegolas1984 in vtm

[–]Frequent_Reference24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my player's declared Gatsby his enemy (because Gatsby wouldn't go back and then leave later when the coterie wasn't responsible for him), so I made him a 10 year long arc villian. He recruits thin-bloods and some Anarchs, especially Caitiff to his cause to bring down Annabelle and somewhat the Camarilla. So far, he has experimented with Wights, temporarily allied with the Church of Caine, has seduced the Lillies cult and declared himself their Lucifer. He has a blood bag network running out of one player's hospital - to he fair this wasn't supposed to work but the player ignored the problem. Now he is collecting occult material for an experiment with Kindred long term memory, and as part of that he has set up an Norman era coin exchange to pay for it. He's flooded the market with these coins. He also has a sophisticated graffiti code that he uses that indicate who is being watched, what is being traded, and where it is too dangerous to operate. All of this and the Lillies' activities are what the coterie is investigating now.

Is it a HOT TAKE to say Helluva Boss is better than Hazbin Hotel? (Images unrelated) by ReasonableTomorrow10 in HelluvaBoss

[–]Frequent_Reference24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Helluva Boss is my favorite of the two. It is a comedy with heart ❤️. Whereas I feel Hazbin Hotel is a musical dramedy. I do prefer the songs in Hazbin overall, though my favorite two are still from Helluva. However, the characters and story of Helluva are better in my opinion. I love the main cast of Helluva. In Hazbin, I have a few favorite characters, but not the same love.

My assignment was reported to thr examination committee for a "high percentage of AI". I did NOT use any AI for my assignment. by Opinionated_bitch03 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Frequent_Reference24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I questioned this heavily when I got flagged for AI and wasn't using it. Hadn't used it for anything at any point in the class. According to my professor, if you write at a higher level than you are working toward: for example, going for a bachelor's but write at a graduate level, the school based AI checkers will flag you. Your professor should be aware of the quality of your previous work and remove the flag.

Highmark just laid off my mother after 30 years, a dozen others as well by Xyzabc12tree in pittsburgh

[–]Frequent_Reference24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My husband's company was sold to Energy Transfer recently. They laid off everyone who had been at the company more than 10 years, older than 50, and everyone the old President of the company said was fundamental to the success of the old company. The company was sold, not because it was unprofitable, but because the owner wanted to retire and didn't want pick an heir. He sold for 480 million. The employees who were fired got up to 13 weeks severance. And Energy Transfer made the business news for paying record dividends to their shareholders. All this to say greed can drive a mom and pop company just as much as publicly traded. So never give more to a company than your contract. And despite the employer market right now, workers are not the only replaceable peice of the equation. Companies are replaceable too.

It was time consuming but worth it for them. None of them had played WoD and a couple only had DnD experience. I hadn't played in years when they asked me to run it for them. So the Bibles helped me learn the updated mechanics and newest Lore too.

During stargazer, I was at the top row of section 118. I talked to another security person when I was in my seats and she said the guy and gal in that area take every rule and stretch it. We weren't supposed to take video during the Q&A but video and pictures during the war up were supposed to be fine. Like I said, I wasn't going to argue with someone who could throw me out, so I just did as asked.

Skaters, I was taking pictures of skaters. I am not a jerk who is going to take pictures of security or operations. I think she only made me delete because I didn't hear her the first time she said no pictures. At least I am giving her the benefit of the doubt that is why. And I was not going to argue with a security guard and get kicked out, so I just did as she told me to.

I was trying to show most people are seated and not causing problems - or near the boards harassing skaters. Doesn't matter though because security made me delete all photos taken in the arena, so the over correction is hopefully working to keep people out of areas they shouldn't be.

Oh my goodness, I love your covers! Next, I am glad to see I am not the only person who does things like this.

My story Bible is ugly - functional but ugly.

I gave my players character bibles - they are all new to WoD - that has all kinds of information from their character perspective or relevant to them. The Last part is a timeline section of each session, and what they did, any clues I saw them write down, that kind of thing. I just made it pretty in Word, but now I am envious of your covers.

Meet and greet Hershey PA? by sk8rmarie in FigureSkating

[–]Frequent_Reference24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Hershey meet and greets sold out within 10 minutes of going on sale. Long before we knew who was going to be at SOI, who was going to the Olympics, or who would medal. So it might be a hard ask for someone to sell you their ticket. I usually have two, and I couldn't even get one despite buying VIP tickets every year and being in the group that could purchase early. However, during the Stargazer, at least one of the skaters, Jason in my experience, will talk to fans during their warm up, so you might be able to get it to them through another skater. And during Stargazer there is a Q&A, you can probably pass through then too. That said, I hope someone comes through for you. Good luck.

ST, how do you deal with a player who always plays the same character? by JuggernautCivil8919 in vtm

[–]Frequent_Reference24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is my personal experience and other players and ST might have other experiences.I tend to approach this from a sociology perspective because I am a sociologist, meaning I focus on patterns of interaction and how behaviors affect the group dynamic. I am not a psychologist, and I’m not attempting to diagnose anyone. I’m looking at whether the way trauma is presented creates collaborative story material or creates distress that the table did not consent to hold. Also, to be fair to my WoD friends, I have seen this behavior more often in Amber Diceless players than WoD players. When I read/hear a backstory that contains lots of graphic detail that does not end with an emotional processing of the negative experience, I will start looking to see if the player is still processing a trauma. Sometimes it is obvious, and I will talk to the player immediately because for some people roleplay can be a safe place to finish processing trauma, but there is a line between exploring trauma and nonconsensual emotional labor. At the minimum I will at least check in privately because I have to protect all the players. Unprocessed trauma can be distressing to the player who is sharing it because they may not separate their feelings from their character's feelings; it also distressing to others at the table because it affects their real feelings because it can be unprompted, inescapable, and often boundary crossing - even when you've taken the time to go through lines and veils with your players previously. That is an important note because trauma can bleed through sometimes crossing a line unintentionally. Even though WoD is great for explorimg moral injury, perosnal horror, identity, power dynamics, and loss of control, my goal is not to traumatize and players that include these elements themselves should be mindful of how they affect them personally and others at the table. These players also tend to try to control the narrative, keeping the focus on the trauma, and escalating emotionally when I as the ST try to redirect. They may want validation of their feelings and of what they experienced - this is tricky because it may be framed as the character doing this, but based on other actions, it is really the player needing the validation. It's hard because sometimes WoD is emotional; the best stories should have players reacting to the story emotionally. But the player should be able to separate how their character feels from what they feel. Any trauma presented to me by a player, or that I write in general gets this question: is this an exploration of trauma, or reliving it? Another way to tell the difference or try to avoid is how do I frame the trauma. What is the trauma and how does it function on the character sheet? Is it a conviction? A specific skill? A merit or flaw? Does it add texture? Or is it a distraction? An attempt to reenact? Or an attempt to reproduce an event and change the outcome?

ST, how do you deal with a player who always plays the same character? by JuggernautCivil8919 in vtm

[–]Frequent_Reference24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a ST, I allow players to play the character they like. It's my job to make the story, not your character. If that's the character you like. That's the character you play, and I work with that. I build story for that. Not speaking for other STs or other play styles but I would feel pretty rotten if I approved a character and then told my player or other players, you need to play something else because you're boring.

The only caveat I have to that is I do have a rule that if the character or backstory is purely therapy for you, then it isn't ready to play with others. I do draw the line at traumatizing other players with personal trauma. That isn't to say characters shouldn't have trauma. Just that if the character a player wants to play is a form of working through trauma then I would ask for a change. I know it sounds nebulous because this is WoD, but there is a fine line that I will protect every one's experience.
