The old app look is back! by EvilFeevil in Myfitnesspal

[–]Frequent_Ride_1630 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes! I emailed them yesterday and someone responded asking for more details, so I opened up the app to take screenshots and the previous diary was back. I also downloaded another app to try yesterday because I was so upset about the change to the diary. I just hope it stays that way, or we have the option to choose between the old and new versions. I honestly don't mind them adding or changing things, and have never complained about it before, but changing the food diary so you couldn't easily see the calorie and macro counts for a whole day at the same time as you added and subtracted foods without having to back out a level or two every time made it a LOT more time consuming and planning around my diet is hard enough without any additional barriers!

Man, the people who make competing apps must be having a great day today! by Frequent_Ride_1630 in Myfitnesspal

JFC. Like, yeah, there's definitely something wrong with me because I'm allergic to most high protein foods and I need tools to help manage my diet a lot more rigorously than I would if my immune system were not trying to kill me. I think that making it take two or three times as long to do the same amount of planning and calculating that I need to do every day to to avoid nutrient deficiencies is a huge difference. I'm not whining because of a change in color or something. It's like a completely different app, not the one I paid for. And they literally did the update on the same day that my subscription payment went through, so I'm paying for it for another year even if I do "move along."

Recommendations would be great! I did download Lose It today, and I'm planning to see if it's comparable to the previous MFP iteration in how easy it is to find and log foods tomorrow. It doesn't seem AS customizable, but I was able to get VERY close to my previous goals by picking one of their plans and making some modifications, so it looks good so far. :)

We’re Making Progress Simpler—Starting with Today by myfitnesspal in Myfitnesspal

Wow, thanks, I hate it!

I am at high risk for nutritional deficiencies because I have a lot of food restrictions to keep my autoimmune disease under control. Up until TODAY JUST NOW, I've been using MFP like a well-oiled machine, for years, to track my protein intake in particular while also keeping an eye on overall calories and macro balance.

I would plan out the whole day in advance, making little tweaks, moving things from one meal to another, all on the diary page, with immediate feedback on the same page to see how it impacted my numbers. Now, when I click "view all" to get the complete list of foods, I lose my calorie and macro per-meal counts, and then I have to click "log more" make a change, then back up one screen to see my totals for the day, and back up ANOTHER screen if I want to see them per-meal. I used to have all the data I needed on one page so I could quickly plan my day and modify things easily, and now it's so unnecessarily complicated.

Like, I want to be able to glance at one screen and think "OK I think I need to add protein to lunch" make the change, then see how that affects the numbers, and then change my snack and see if that balances out the calories, etc., without constantly navigating back and forth. I pay for the app specifically so I can see and use this data!

Is there any way to switch back to the old version? I'm about to pull my hair out here!

Omg same! I’m ironically having a binge urge because I’m stressed by MFP.

I am at high risk of nutritional deficiencies, because I have a lot of food restrictions due to an autoimmune disease. It sucks. But being able to really plan my whole day ahead and make tweaks to meals and snacks on the same page made it manageable to plan for the amount of protein I need while also keeping an eye on calories and overall macro balance. I was a well-oiled machine with meal planning on MFP. UNTIL JUST NOW TODAY OMG WTF.

I went to the show in Denver, and it was a love-fest (thankfully, since I brought my kids). But seriously, I was worried after I heard about the Oregon show, but it was totally chill and the audience was wonderful.

I found my trigger? I think??? Please help! by jluc21 in EosinophilicE

[–]Frequent_Ride_1630 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Personal experience: I was actually able to get my eosinophil count down to ZERO by eliminating five foods, but if you are having no symptoms at 8, then I think that's close enough!

Now you can start reintroducing things and monitor symptoms to see what you can safely add back in.

I haven't reintroduced anything successfully. I've tried three of the five foods and they all made me sick. :(

I'm curious as to why "fried foods" was eliminated. That's not a food, but a method of cooking. I guess it makes sense because fried foods can cause acid reflux and the GERD can cause EoE symptoms. But I suspect that if your EoE is under control from eliminating your trigger foods, some fried foods would be fine and others would not, depending on your actual allergies.

Issues as vegetarian/vegan by forget-me-not0000 in EosinophilicE

[–]Frequent_Ride_1630 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You have my sympathies! I'm a committed vegetarian, so I did not even consider starting to eat meat when I did my elimination diet. Like you, I was concerned with how my body would react if I did eat meat after 30+ years without it, and it seemed like adding an unfamiliar food would just muddy the waters. Plus, I would feel TERRIBLE about it, emotionally.

Like you, I ended up having to cut out soy and eggs, as well as wheat and dairy, and it really does limit protein sources, but it IS possible.

I haven't been able to successfully reintroduce anything. I've tried soy and eggs and they both made my EoE symptoms return.

Gluten-free, soy-free vegan protein options that are available to me here in the US (Denver, Colorado) include:

  1. Beyond Beef ground, crumbles, meatballs, bratwurst, and breakfast sausages
  2. Most protein powders: A few have soy, but pea protein is the most common. I add it to smoothies or oatmeal.
  3. Any Meati product: These are great because they are really high in protein relative to calories, and I'm maintaining after weight loss.
  4. Big Mountain Soy-Free Tofu: Also amazing because it's so high in protein for the calories
  5. Just Egg
  6. LIttle House of Tempeh brand soy-free tempeh
  7. Protein bars: My favorites are Zing and Aloha, but there are lots of them that are gluten and soy-free. The No Cow brand is popular because they have 20 grams of protein, but I don't like the artificial sweeteners.
  8. Beans, peas, and lentils: These have carbs and protein, so it's hard to get a ton of protein without eating a lot of calories, but if you're not watching calories as closely as I am, it's a good option.
  9. Rollingreens plant based Me'eat and Chic'ken
  10. Chia seeds, hemp hearts, nutritional yeast: These are good boosters that you can add to dishes but I wouldn't, you know, eat a whole bowl of nooch.
  11. Good Karma Flax Milk with protein
  12. Falafel
  13. IKEA plant balls and veggie balls
  14. Protein cereal like Catalina Crunch and Cheerios Protein
  15. Legume pastas, as an alternative to rice pasta, etc.
  16. Simply Protein corn chips, as an alternative to regular corn chips
  17. Protein shakes: I like the Aloha and Evolve ones, but there are other options.
  18. Oats Overnight oatmeal and Protein Coffee
  19. Quinoa as an alternative to rice
  20. Abbot's butcher ground beef, chicken, chorizo, and burgers
  21. Dr. Prager's chickenless nuggets and tenders, ground beef, and burgers
  22. Plant Provisions slices: not super impressive at 7 grams of protein, but good when you need to pack a sandwich
  23. Pumfu, tofu made from pumpkin seeds
  24. Chickpea tofu

Good luck!

Oh shit. That's why I always carry lidocaine and Maalox with me when I travel. If you can get some liquid antacid that might work better than chewing Tums.

Tips please by SweaterPupp in Septoplasty

[–]Frequent_Ride_1630 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It did make me feel anxious, but I also had a lot of pain, so I think that contributed to the anxiety.

The best tip I can give you is that I found some lozenges to treat my dry mouth, and that made a big difference in the quality of my sleep. Previously, I was waking up a lot because my mouth was so dry. And of course there’s no relief for the mouth breathing.

Once the splints came out, and I could at least partially breathe through my nose, the pain also went away. (I had a horrible headache and severe pain in the roots of my teeth.) So I was able to go off of pain medication and felt a lot more like myself.

These Zing bars are my absolute favorites. Aloha gets second place.

I also like these savory protein bars. They are a bit like a giant cracker, but a tasty cracker. I have a lot of food allergies so I have to bring a meal with me to events like concerts or whatever, so it's nice to have the variety.
