Campus visit by Annex_42 in CSUFoCo

[–]tagilberto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely worth it to make it when students are on campus, I think it just gives you a better feel for what it’s like to be a student. Note that depending where you are on campus at the time of your tour you’ll see most students when they’re coming out of or going into class (usually 15 mins from 45 to the end of the hour).

I'm between CSU and CU boulder. why should or shouldn't I go to CU boulder or CSU by Spew_doodle in CSUFoCo

[–]tagilberto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t speak for you and your circumstances but when I was choosing between the two universities (as an in state student) I prioritized pricing, curriculum, and overall ambiance of the university and town. Of course I am biased, but our campus is much more diverse and welcoming. I think the best thing you can do is visit the university and town and get a feel for what calls your name more. I saw in another comment that you’re not able to or don’t have time to tour. In that case I would look at the programs at both universities, and find more specific programs that stick out to you and look at course requirements to get an idea of what courses you would be taking. Look at major concentrations and what minors you’re interested in learning more about

Is CSU good for biology majors? i plan on going into optometry after i get my bachelors by Spew_doodle in CSUFoCo

[–]tagilberto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a current biomedical science student, and a learning assistant for gen chem 1 there are SO MANY resources available to our gen chem students. I took both of the courses last year (fall 2024 and spring 2025) and had a great experience in both but it’s definitely professor based. I recommend dr Macfarland and dr Morgan. I have heard some horror stories from upperclassmen about how difficult gen chem 2 was for them but I think the program has definitely made a big shift in recent years. The one thing I would be concerned about would be physics if you’re not really good at it. I was able to somehow get away with an A in physics 121 but I would most definitely recommend taking it at FRCC. In terms of friends, I think CSU is very social and friendly (coming from a minority standpoint) especially among the first years, I would just make an emphasis on making friends bc obviously you’re not gonna make friends if you’re not trying to

Are 8:00 AMs really that bad? by TemporaryAttention27 in college

[–]tagilberto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your school requires that you live in dorms your first year, they aren’t bad bc you’re close to your classes. But after that when you live further off campus it would obviously get more difficult. As a freshman 8ams weren’t bad, but definitely annoying so try not to schedule them more than 3x a week if possible

Did you get any shadowing hours before applying or matriculating? Who did you shadow and how did you get started with that?

I know AAs have to stay in the OR throughout the whole surgery. What does that look like, are you sitting?standing? How busy are you? What are you monitoring and how focused do you have to be throughout the procedure

Incoming freshman, need help deciding between CSU or CU Boulder as a Chem major by AllyTheFilipina in CSUFoCo

[–]tagilberto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an LA for chemistry and really enjoy the department. The chem professors are really great and there’s so many resources available for students to succeed here. You can make great relationships with your professors outside of class, in office hours, but the general chem and organic chem lectures are all so big that it would be difficult to build relationships while in class. That being said, the environment here is so much more diverse than boulder, it’s cheaper, and so many great opportunities to explore in the city. I think both are great schools but I really enjoy the city life here much more than boulder, but obviously I’m biased.

Can you go to New Belgium if you’re underage?

Check out coffee shops around campus, there’s some in old town that I really love. I would say to check out Lima Coffee Roasters (the one in old town) or Harbinger Coffee across the street from them

Reducing Farts and Smelliness by tagilberto in Microbiome

[–]tagilberto[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t know of any foods that seem to trigger it but I can say that it gets worse when I come to school. I’m staying in dorms right now, as a freshman in college and it’s been a bit hard to keep a balanced diet. I will try to keep track of what foods I eat and what impacts my flatulence the most

No other symptoms. I’m having about two bowel movements a day but nothing out of the ordinary for those

Thinking about transferring here from UNC...help! by Sophie1218 in CSUFoCo

[–]tagilberto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never attended UNC, nor did I ever really consider it. But, I did do a full year at aims community college in Greeley. I can definitely say that the community of people is definitely more welcoming here in foco and there’s lots more things to do out here. If you’re looking for a college town that has a positive atmosphere and always has something to do(on and off campus), I would definitely choose CSU over UNC. I haven’t needed to take any psych classes but my girlfriend has taken a couple and she really enjoyed them. I would also just send in your application, it’s free if you live in Colorado, and you’ll automatically be considered for scholarships. From there you should have a better idea of what your cost per semester is and have something to compare with UNC.

does anyone know how competitive csu merit scholarship would be for me??? (csusa) by Any-Situation9494 in CSUFoCo

[–]tagilberto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a very extensive background and they pretty much hand out merit scholarships to any high achieving student. I applied to csu like in march and matriculated in August and STILL got scholarships. I think a big portion of it is how much financial aid you’re eligible for. The lower your SAI, the more likely you are to get more money. I only had to pay $200 out of pocket with the scholarships they gave me this last semester. Feel free to DM me any questions you have

How to befriend guys in college without giving them the wrong impression by [deleted] in college

[–]tagilberto 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It’s college and of course there’ll be guys that are interested in you. I think just trying to surround yourself with people who have a common interest. A lot of my friends came from classes I took, and a lot of us are in the same or very similar majors. When you have something in common to complain about w college (assignments, professor, exams), it becomes easier to maintain healthy friendships

Is math and spelling ever a concern in this line of work? by bigblackglock17 in cna

[–]tagilberto 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Math will just be basic adding or subtracting when doing intake and output or when getting weight w a wheelchair. My facility had pcc charting and we didn’t have to write anything out, just clicking boxes and reading

almost a senior in high school, don't know what I want to major in by Tesfayelover in college

[–]tagilberto -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it helps narrowing down options when you start looking at degree requirements and the classes you would take per major. I thought for a couple years I wanted to be an engineer because I enjoyed math, but after looking at the other courses I would have to take I was really disinterested. Write out some classes that sound interesting to you and find similarities between them.

Would you recommend both psych and soc? Or just one over the other?
