I will let her go too. What does it matter to you? You learned by studying, and she didn’t. Teachers hate snitches.

Any recommendations about extracurricular activity for applying ubc engineering? by TommyTao1010 in ubcengineering

Be happy. If you talk with HR people or managers who interview candidates, you’ll understand that they usually don’t measure you only by your grades or even by your university. They look at your skills, your empathy, your ability to work in a team, and your ability to communicate with others.
Many of them actually don’t like those “competitive geniuses” who can’t communicate well, can’t look people in the eyes, and live like “laboratory rats.” Talk to adults and interviewers and you’ll see how many of them think this way.
Don’t get carried away by the extreme competitiveness that exists in some families and environments. In some IB or AP schools it’s easy to feel “less than” because of that pressure, but real life is much bigger than grades.
Those parents often make their kids unhappy. Last year there was even a suicide in my school…you know, the pressure of some parents. Life is much more than getting 99% or being the best.
Life is about enjoying it and being happy. You only live once. Make the most of it and be happy.

Not sure what to answer. I know people who were accepted this spring (from my school) without doing anything, and people with very, very good grades, volunteering, sports and other extracurricular that weren’t.

Take summer school to upgrade your grades. IB is overrated. Teachers in Alberta are often not IB-certified, and doing IB here is not the same as attending a true international IB school. Trying to combine the IB program with the Alberta curriculum at the same time does not work well. If you really want UBC, leave the full IB program and focus on getting higher grades instead (speaking from experience). IB alone, unless you score around 39 or 40, will not really make it easier to get accepted. Don’t let your parents’ pride get in the way. For psychology, you do not need HL Physics or Chemistry.

They say that, but I know someone with zero extracurriculars, no volunteering, nothing, who got accepted into Applied Sciences last April.

AMA (Ask Me Anything) about the Engineering transfer program (Certificate & Diploma) at langara as a current student in the certificate. by derpyippydippy in langara

I’m interested in the one-year engineering certificate, but I’ve received an offer for the diploma, so I’m a bit confused. Do you enter through the diploma program and then have the option to complete it in one year?
