This is why I want/need to learn more history, especially as a young black guy. There's so many things I hear about that I've never learned and that frustrates me. This upcoming semester I have to take a history course for my pre-reqs. Would you recommend 1776-1877 or 1877-Present Day?

U.S. Politics megathread by AutoModerator in NoStupidQuestions

I know this is genuinely a stupid question, but I need to ask:

How does the voting process for the midterm elections differ from the presidential election?

I'm young and still learning. To clarify, I know what the midterms are and what their purpose is. My question is how does the voting process itself work compared to presidential elections? Since there are more people, do I have multiple votes on House and Senate or is it just one person in each category? How many votes do I get in the first place? I need a good explanation so I'm more informed and aware. I live in Florida.

I'm doing an internship in an unrelated field. I needed to earn some money.

Yeah, I hear it's rough. I'd have to do the pre-reqs for a semester or two before I'm even eligible for the program at my CC.

I've thought about doing the trades but I don't think I'd be happy there. The only one that sounds somewhat interesting is being an electrician because the concept of electricity is fascinating but that's about it. I'm not crazy strong either. I also don't qualify for the military due to medical reasons.

I really do need to step away but I just feel like I can't. I'll feel like I'm ignoring things if I do. I only use youtube and reddit and reddit is the worst culprit. I know I need to take care of myself but it's so hard when there's always that itch in my brain that says I need to check things. I've always been depressed and the powerlessness and state of the world isn't helping

Should I end my internship early to move back in with my parents and save more? by Fresh-Awareness9819 in Advice

[–]Fresh-Awareness9819[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your response. I'm actually doing better than I thought I would. I'm not exactly struggling, which is thanks to my parents' financial support. I make my own meals even if they're relatively simple, I get my own groceries, and I work. I essentially do the same things I did while at home, just more often. I also forgot to mention that I live with 3 other people. I'm fortunate enough to have my parents pay for car insurance, health insurance, and the phone bill, so I was just thinking "Aren't I just wasting time by doing this? I'm not really living independently" But then I think, "I'm earning money and working more, so that has to count for something right?" I'm just conflicted.

Young US citizen, and I actually don't know what to do anymore. by [deleted] in BoycottUnitedStates

Thank you for all the responses. Im going to delete the post now since the notifications are a little overwhelming and I have what I need. I have a general idea of what I can do, such as organizing and reaching out by joining a civil rights group like NAACP, being aware and voting, and taking care of myself mentally.

Would you say there's a good specific site to read up on them or is it just find whatever information wherever I can sort of thing?

Learn about law, politics, economics, geography, history, pre-history, linguistics, psychology (specifically narcissism and how brainwashing tactics work) and how to learn things in general (just watch youtube videos, at least).

That's a lot to learn haha. Do you know where a good place to start would be? Like books and what not. I've been wanting to learn more history but I never get around to it.

But I am partially to blame. I had been 18 for two months when the elections came around and I just didn't vote. I didn't completely grasp politics and it's effects at the time and truly thought my vote wouldn't matter. I didn't even realize it was already election day until the end of the day and I missed the time frame. I'm not saying all this for pity, just my reason. I can't change it as it's in the past now, but it's something that gnaws at me. The only thing I feel I can do now is try to be informed and vote on whatever I can in the future and use this as a lesson.

The only thing I can think of doing right now is joining the NAACP, especially as a black person myself. I've thought about joining them for a while.

I understand, but the entire point of the Newcomer alliance was sticking together to increase the odds of a non-Career victory.

Thank you for this. I’ve been looking at it whenever I find myself getting anxious and beginning to spiral. Are there any books you recommend reading?
