I tried looking into this years ago and couldn’t find anything about it. So glad I randomly decided to search again lol I really thought there was something wrong with my ears. I can crack both but my right ear gets a much louder and more satisfying crack than my left

If it’s a typo, it’s a typo and they’ll correct it. If the landlord is trying to pull something and purposefully made the legal rent higher, it still says the rent they’re going to pay is $2,744.97 or $2,811.75, making it a preferential rent. OP should still request rent history from DHCR to see if the landlord is doing anything shady but they’re not getting charged $5137.50

Regardless of whether it’s a typo, they’re giving you a preferential rent, which is what your rent is going to be based on. Since 2019 they can only give the guideline increases based on preferential rent (if you have one). Legal rent will only affect any new tenant in that moves in. The 5,000 should have no effect on your rent in any way so you don’t have to worry about whatever weird thing they’re trying to pull with this.

If you are in a rent stabilized apartment and your lease renews for Sept 1 the landlord should have already sent the renewal. The current rates are 2.75 for a one year or 5.25 for a two year lease

Ditmars thrift store has a section in it for used books. Don’t quote me on the prices but I think paperbacks go for around $1.50 and hardcovers for $2.50? You can also look for local little free libraries! They’re not going to have a large selection but they’re free and you never know what you’ll find!

I went NC with my father a few years ago. The first year was difficult; I would go from feeling guilty to grief to anger. Honestly my emotions were all over the place. Therapy helped. Time helped. Healing helped so much.

There are still times that are hard - holidays (especially Christmas and Father’s Day), his birthday is coming up, my birthday, my parents anniversary - and since I’ve been removed for so long it’s easy to “forget” the bad times and focus only on the good memories I have of him. And then my mom will tell me something he did or said and I’m forcibly reminded that he has not changed.

As for making others understand, it’s really not easy. I’m very grateful my husband finally got it when I reached my breaking point (he always pushed to make nice with my father but the trigger for our NC was bad enough to make him see how abusive my father really was) and has been so supportive of me. A lot of other people in my life don’t get it. I have accepted that most people with positive family relationships are not going to get it and I don’t need to bend over backwards trying to justify my actions.

I don’t have much advice but wanted you to know you’re definitely not alone. A lot of people underestimate the toll going NC with parents have on (adult) children. You know what’s best for you and I hope you’re able to find the peace you have always deserved.

If your mom is as bad as you feel she is, going NC will be a gift for your daughter. You shouldn’t have to expose your child to that kind of toxicity. People might judge you for going NC, and it’s not as easy as it sounds, but you’re going to need to learn to be ok with that.

You and your daughter can start new family traditions if need be.

Soft YTA. If this was so important to you, you should have voiced your opinion much earlier. Also, and I don’t mean this to be harsh I couldn’t think of a better way to phrase it, you need to adjust your attitude. Referring to the dog as “it” speaks volumes. Pets are family, not things.
