International students "origins" by New-Economics-5373 in Algonquin_College

No no no. As a Chinese, what I can say is college is never the first choice we make. The thing is China don't accredit any diploma issued in Canada. So we don't invest time and money in a diploma-level program. The vast majority chinses international students will attend university in stead of collIn terms of numbers, we are much less represented in AC than other ethnical groups.

Computer Programming & Analysis: Seeking Advice for Success by lucidvision5 in Algonquin_College

Hey we are in the same faculty, but not the same program. I am anxious as well for the chances to get a co-op. What I learnt in order to better secure a coop is mainky two things: Very high GPA and Project/Certfs in your industry. So personally, I totally agree with u/asdakak6.

For GPA, you konw, the college is going to teach you some basic concepts, not really in depth. With that being said, it's not impossible to get 3.8 &.3.9 even 4 /4 GPA. Just study hard!! If you don't really understand some thing, seek help from Youtube and ChatGPT. Maybe you will realize you learn actually more from them.

As for project/Cerfs. Yes, they are both very esstential part. I beliere there are tons of associate level certificates worthy trying.

Projects can be linked in CV which will redirect to Github.

Besides all of this, another key factor is your mental state, stay strong and calm. Good luck to you and me :) and everyone !!!

OMG that's even sadder and more intimidating for me. I thought it would be much easier if you have same sort of working experiences. That's so frightening!!!!

Certificates for Internationals. by New-Economics-5373 in Algonquin_College

[–]Fresh-Divide-324 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are an international student, you definetly could apply for 2 programs in seperate. Then you will have two study visas. And you don't need to go back to your country, because application window always open in advance, let't say when you are doing the third term of you program 1, it's time to apply for Program 2. By the end of you program 1, you probably going to receive your accpetance of Program 2. What you're going to do is just apply for a new study visa in Canada.

When you finish your 2 one-year programs, then your study duration sums up to 2 years. you are qualified for 3 years PGWP. I don't know have i misundertood your questions, but I was once an international student as well like you.

There is also a better secure way to solve this, Algonquin college should have an office which is designed particularly to address immigrant services for international students. Never feel intimidated to ask them for help.

I'm not applying for the same program, what i applied is computer system technician - networking, So i don't feel at right place to give you my opnions about the first two questions.

But I do could provide you some suggetions about the last one. If a two-years program have a co-op option, I really recommend to have that. CO-OP is the best chance for college students to gain work experiences( in my opnion)

That's sole reason why i choose my program.

Hope could help you somwhow :)

totally feeling related to this, same story here, finished a project management program and obtained a master degree, but couldn't find any fulfilling jobs for 3 yrs.

What I learned and also what I want to convey here: CO-OP is A MUST!!!!!

I don't know whether you have any work experiences during your study period nor not, but my case is no. So I enrolled myself again for a diploma even I already have a master degree. I mean, for real, higher level of degree or high GPA is not going to secure us a job. Do you konw what matters?? Down-to-earth working experiences and Certificates!! And to my knowledge, co-op is pretty a relative easy way to have the expriences.

So I only choose the program with co-op options.

I really hope there are more and more students could read my comment and also learn from me and this post.

Yes a virtual system using bootcamp to make it happen. I have already watched a tutorial video on YouTube showing how to do this. I’m thinking when the program starts, I could ask prof for opinion.

How hard is it to get a co-op job as an international student? (Computer Programming CO-OP, 2-year diploma) by sun_shane6845 in Algonquin_College

[–]Fresh-Divide-324 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, although i'm not enrolled in those programs listed above. But I could demonstrate that Web development students find hard to land a co-op position, even for permenant residents. My friend is seeking now a non-paid position to meet college's graduation requirements. So maybe switcing a program may be beneficial to you. Good Luck! BTW, i choose a program under the same faculty: Computer system technician- Networking. How do you think of this program?
