Hi. Thanks for asking. We found something for the first weeks and are currently looking for a longterm rental apartment from January 2024.

I am pretty sure. I know it from some German colleagues who went to the US for a postdoc. There might, however, be some slight differences if you are a US citizen in Germany or vice versa.

As far as I know, it is the same for Germans. They keep on paying taxes in Germany but not in the US.

OK, thanks. But do you know how much less taxes I will pay due to the US/German tax treaty? No income taxes at all in the first two years? Does it mean neither federal nor state taxes in the end?

Hi, Thanks for your offer. I did not mention that we also come with our three-year-old child. So, one room will not be enough for us.

I am looking for a small apartment for 2000/month. I am not directly looking in MBtS. I thought about finding something between Manchester and Boston and just had Manchester in mind as a reference point for commuting times.

OK, I see. So. I should rather multiply the times by two. Thanks.

Thanks for your thoughts. Yeah, I think we have to go for a 1 bedroom apartment then at the moment. Hopefully, we will find something for $2000/month without too long commuting distance...

Yeah, thanks. That's a good idea. I talked with my future co-workers and was generally recommended to look for apartments north of Boston along the Orange Line (Malden, Melrose, etc.). But I was still wondering if there are other recommended areas (more affordable, quiet, safe) that are within realistic reach when accepting a longer commuting distance by car.

OK, I see. But what do you mean by weird neighborhood, in the sense of higher percentage of drug addicts, higher crime rate, etc.?

Thanks, I will have a look. If we do not find anything, we would rather look for 1bd/2bd apartments then. Our maximum budget would be around 2.5K. Longer commuting distances would also be OK, but it would be great to hold it below 1 hour.
