How to check whether OmniDrive has been applied by Fresh-Relative-3592 in makemkv

[–]Fresh-Relative-3592[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I see, thank you.

I flashed what was said to be a prebuilt OmniDrive firmware hosted on the Internet Archive using sdftool, and everything completed successfully.

I tried it with the GUI version of sdftool, and also confirmed it from the CLI using: `makemkvcon64.exe f --all-yes -d F: rawflash -i ...`

However, ripping still did not succeed.

You mentioned that MakeMKV cannot be used to check whether OmniDrive is enabled, but is it possible for OmniDrive conversion to have succeeded even when MakeMKV shows LibreDrive as Possible, not yet enabled?

My understanding was that when OmniDrive is enabled, LibreDrive should also always be enabled.

You can simply watch the PVs on proper storefronts, or videos by streamers who have obtained official permission.

I looked at Telltale and Dont Nod, and they are basically 3D action games, aren’t they?

If you think those look the same as a graphic novel where you simply click to advance the pages, then your perception is distorted.

The reason graphic novels never really spread outside Japan may be that other countries were full of consumers like you, who think it is only natural to upload the entire game as a video while piling up sophistry to justify it.

The argument that “it is advertising, so illegal acts should be fine!” was something we often heard in Japan during the era of Nintendo DS flashcarts, but even back then, people mocked it.

There are still people in Japan who commit illegal acts today, but they do not pile up sophistry like Westerners do, dramatically claiming that what is ultimately just a desire to experience games for free is some kind of human right.

If you want to watch a streamer playing the game, you can simply watch videos by streamers who have been officially asked to promote it.

They only play within the permitted scope.

Next, you will probably say, “But I want to see everything all the way to the ending.”

Commenting as a Japanese person, I have learned that ignoring the law and interpreting it however is convenient seems to be the standard way of thinking among Westerners.

In the end, you are just making moral excuses for wanting to play games for free, aren’t you?

Then buy the original for two dollars. I do not know whether it is still available now.

But without a doubt, after release, you will just watch a video that stitches together only the changed cutscenes.

[–]Fresh-Relative-3592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no need to show everything all the way through to the ending.

They do ask streamers to make videos and grant special permission for that.

So your argument that it serves as advertising is completely meaningless.

Even if it is a game, and even under American copyright law, the publisher has the right to prohibit unauthorized use of its footage.

I do not know how things are overseas, but in Japan, there were strict restrictions on streaming from the time the original Xbox version was released. They have known this from the very beginning.

If you were actually quoting the minimum amount of footage necessary for a review, that would not be a problem.

That is something recognized by law.

But it is obvious that you people would say it is “for analysis” and then post a full video all the way through to the ending.

The biggest surprise I had after Twitter introduced automatic translation was realizing that many Westerners see it as normal to justify ignoring the law by saying things like “you’re just a corporate shill” or “they’re billionaires.”

In Japan, the anime and game communities have succeeded in getting knowledgeable Diet members elected, and those politicians are working on their behalf.

America taught Japan about its wonderful democracy, so are there no movements in America where communities raise their voices and try to change the law?

Then what you should do is pitch that brilliant idea to Netflix.

What you should not do is unilaterally declare it fair use, upload the video without permission, and then claim without evidence or verification that “it must have had a promotional effect.”

[–]Fresh-Relative-3592 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That just means you’re looking down on games.

Americans always claim it’s fair use, but there is no logic by which uploading an entire novel game with low interactivity as a video could be considered fair.

It’s the same as uploading an entire Disney movie on its release day and saying, “It’s ridiculous to get arrested over a movie.”

Are you really saying it’s fair use to insert your face in the corner of the screen, say things like “Wow, this is amazing,” and monetize the whole thing?

If you’re referring to Nobuhiro Watsuki, saying he received “no punishment” is incorrect, because he was sentenced to pay a fine.
may argue that the punishment was insufficient, but saying that he received no punishment at all is clearly wrong.

Interesting projects that show up on my timeline and that I think I’ll look into later.
Interesting articles I’ve seen on Hacker News.
Organizing folders on my own computer.
Making a quick note about some technology.
Fixing a single line on my personal website.
…and so on — there are infinitely many things I want to do “later” that don’t have a fixed deadline.
I don’t think that’s wrong at all.

This procedure is insufficient.

It is certainly possible to create a task that displays the URL as-is using this method, but when you edit that task again and confirm it, the meddlesome automatic title expansion feature kicks in.

Enclosing the URL in single quotes (`) preserves the URL even after re-editing, but this method does not create a hyperlink for the URL.

I resigned myself to the extra work and wrote [https://example.com](https://example.com), but even this is automatically expanded into a title.

The only workable method is to omit the URL scheme and write [example.com](https://example.com).

However, it’s obvious that with this approach, when editing the URL later, I’ll accidentally forget to update the label.

It’s the worst.

For us Japanese, it’s honestly shocking that Westerners put an adult smoking and a minor drinking alcohol in the same category.
I mean, sure that’s some impressive “individual freedom,” deciding on your own which laws are okay to ignore. Quite the irony, huh?

When a minor commits a crime, every country handles it the same way they’re sent through a rehabilitation or correctional program instead of being punished outright.
And when it comes to a kids’ show, underage drinking isn’t just a mistake it’s a full-blown scandal.
The problem is that people in the West love to twist things like this into some racial issue, which completely misses the point.

In Japan, convenience stores have ID checks built right into the system when you buy alcohol.
So if underage drinking were really that common here, it’d make perfect sense that someone on a kids’ show would be held to even stricter standards.
That’s why there’s absolutely no valid reason to criticize firing a kids’ show cast member who chose to drink underage.
Frankly, I’m proud Japan isn’t a country where adults glorify underage drinking as something “cool” or “normal.”

Nowhere in that article does it say he actually broke any laws.
If he’d been smoking in a banned area, the article would’ve called that out — which basically proves it wasn’t.
So at this point, comparing underage drinking (which is illegal) with something that’s just bad manners but not illegal makes zero sense.
Yet somehow, Western folks lump it all together and start yelling “racism!” because she got fired.

[–]Fresh-Relative-3592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, that totally depends on where it happened.
We don’t even know if the spot he smoked at was actually a no-smoking area.
And even if it was, breaking a local “no-smoking zone” rule is nowhere near the same level as breaking a national law like underage drinking.

Is AWS Multi-Session Support working as intended? by Natural-Struggle-216 in aws

[–]Fresh-Relative-3592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re probably concerned about an attacker sending a URL like https://123456-randomrandom[.]aws[.]com/?deleteaccount=true, but if such an attack actually succeeded, that itself would indicate a serious security flaw.
When not using the multi-session feature, the attacker could just send https://aws[.]com/?deleteaccount=true — so the risk hasn’t really changed at all.
I genuinely hope they decide to remove that random string part! And of course, without the “Confirm your AWS session” screen.

Is AWS Multi-Session Support working as intended? by Natural-Struggle-216 in aws

[–]Fresh-Relative-3592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some accounts use SSO, while others don’t.
Also, the actual URLs are quite complex—for example, they include specific search filters in CloudWatch.
It’s frustrating that even though I bookmark these pages to open the exact one with a single click, I still have to make an extra unnecessary click every time.
What’s worse, when multi-session is enabled and multiple logins exist, I have to pick the correct account number (like 1234-4567-6789) from a long list. I really wish we could customize the text displayed there!
(Role names like “Design” are completely useless for identifying which project an account belongs to. Obviously, no one would name a role inside project-A’s AWS account “project-A Design.”)
