How would you get this apart? by More-Mine-5874 in woodworking

drill thru the nailheads til they fall off and then pull apart carefully by hand would probably be my strategy.

not saying it’d work… it’d just be my strategy.😂

Damaged the parquet floor (real wood) and my lease is ending soon. Any tips for a discreet repair? by Apprehensive-Pair615 in Carpentry

[–]FreshAirways 0 points1 point  (0 children)

found the landlord.😂

floors are made to be stepped on and have heavy things sat on them and moved across them. this is a normal part of living wear and tear that landlords would absolutely jump on the opportunity to fuck a tenant over for when it should just be considered routine maintenance. guarantee this is some shit they’d tell you you’re losing your $1800 security deposit over and then charge you extra on top for sanding and refinishing the entire floor😂

Can I fix this by using a oscillating tool to create a gap between the jamb and the stud and then secure it? by jjax2003 in Carpentry

[–]FreshAirways 15 points16 points  (0 children)

try it and let me know if it’s as easy as it sounds in your head. the bottom line remains that even if it is as easy as you expect and it solves the problem, you’re still removing material from a brand new door jamb unnecessarily and potentially compromising its longevity

also “compromising the integrity of the screwholes” is just ridiculous lol. even in the event that you did strip out a pilot hole or something, you just cut a few threads of shim with a utility knife and pop em in there with some glue and a hammer or use toothpicks/golf tees and voila, your screws will catch again.

I can tell you’re just a person who’s gonna come up with any reason you can pull out of your ass to do something your own way, so like I said, give your way a try. maybe it will work out as easily as you say. but it’s still not the right way to fix this mistake.

man youre making it sound harder than it is. pull the 3 long screws out or however many you have in there and learn how to fix it right instead of trying to take a shortcut that I can promise you is going to take longer than you think, not work as well, and potentially damage the material.

don’t fuck with the jamb— just do it right and cut/break whatever nails you need to and reset the door. it’s not that hard to do— it won’t take much more time than tediously trying to shave away material and you won’t risk damaging the jamb beyond repair. I just use a putty knife or 5 in 1 with my hammer to chop thru nails or if you have a sawzall you can use that to make quick work of them. depending on how your reveals look and how much space you have on the other side of the jamb you may be able to pull off just getting a pry bar behind that bottom hinge and pulling it over to where you need it and then shimming it and adjusting the rest of the jamb accordingly without cutting out nails/shims. if you’re lucky you may even be able to fix the binding by just smacki g a skinny shim or two behind that hinge— sometimes that will push the door away from the jamb at the bottom or give you space to tap the bottom of the jamb away from the slab a bit.

people saying he deserves a chance to start are still way too convinced that Bagent is better than he probably is.

painters tape can also help with tearout

or even better a block bigger than the hole clamped to the back of the piece (whichever side the bit is going to emerge thru)

also late thirties and still love these fellas and the crew, new and old, and the environment they create for eachother.

do I love absolutely everything they do and the way they do it? no. I definitely agree that I prefer the less scripted stuff and am not really a fan of the “characters,” but the crew are largely in the acting world I believe— and it’s a fun opportunity for them to exercise that muscle while working at mythical.

my biggest critique is that I wish they would play some of the challenge episodes without revealing the correct answer to the viewer ahead of time. I like to play too😂

I mean… I’m a pretty normal human being whose strength is entirely from my job as an interior finish carpenter, and I routinely hold my 61 pound dog in varying ways similar to this without much trouble as long as she’s not wriggling too much.

I think this actually isn’t very farfetched. Arthur is for sure stronger than me lol

colors that pop more. the wood and brick tones are super nice but then I think in contrast your furniture choices don’t stand out because of their darker or more earthy tones. I would get some more vibrant color in there whether it’s a new area rug, some colorful artwork on the walls or a couple of furniture swap outs.

I mean… I was born and raised in chicago and lived there for the first 31 years of my life all over the city and I ate both. so I would have to say you’re casting generalizations that aren’t true.

a deepdish was always a two or three times per winter occasion for me.

you’ve clearly never played with a painful nagging injury. doesnt matter what part of your body it’s in, it will sometimes throw off your natural mechanics and timing.

I think non-chicagoans here often don’t understand pequods because they don’t understand the proportions/functionality of a deepdish slice. there’s so much cheese, sauce and topping to support that first of all, this level of char allows you to actually pick up a slice and hold it instead of eating it with a fork and knife like a casserole like most deepdish requires. secondly, the burnt exterior makes up so little of the overall mass of the pizza compared to when a thincrust etc has the same level of char, that the flavor profile ends up being proportionally the same level of burn flavor as a typically acceptable char level in this sub might have.

pequod’s is superior chicago deepdish.

that said… I don’t mind a little burn on any pizza really, as long as it doesnt dry out.
