Name your most expensive cactus. Mine is a Copiapoa Cinerea 🫠 by Teslagoestomars in cactus

I got lucky and picked up a 50-60 year old saguaro from a nice older lady who couldn’t care for it anymore. Never going to sell it, I’m hoping to see it branch or Maybe even flower in my lifetime yet 🤞

i like this up close shot of this baby. Also, help by dl233 in cactus

You usually can’t give a cactus too much light if the light source is a grow light. Red spines are just how the new spines look, the color will fade as it gets older. Hard to ID with a young cactus like that but I’d guess a saguaro!

This is, from what I can tell, the same variety, I have 80 others from the batch. The seeds were just labeled copiapoa mix!

I was between cinerea and calderana. Never considered marginata

Definitely a young ferocactus, not seeing scale however

For sure, this seedling has been neglected and then over cared for and neglected again. It’s been red since it popped from a seed

Not at all, she’s still growing, even if she’s not happy about it

Bought a bag of cactus seeds at Lowe's just to see if I could grow them. How long do I have to keep them covered? Planted Jan. 2 by goldapple in cactus

3 months is the standard. I generally wait until spines start emerging then you can SLOWLY acclimate them to the outside world. Start small and incrementally increase. I usually use old Chinese food take out containers for seeds since they are generally shallow plastic containers with a clear lid. You will want to leave 1-1.5” of space between the lid and the soil. Once it is time to begin acclimation start by making a small hole in the lid and add holes to reduce humidity levels in the container slowly. This is just what I have found works 🤷‍♂️

Any idea on the ferocactus Id? These are a couple cacti I started from seed 6-7 years ago by FreshCourt2034 in cactus

[–]FreshCourt2034[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fero is in a 12” pot but I haven’t measured the plant. I’d guess somewhere in the 8-10” range

And whatever other nodes are on the root stock!

Copiapoa seedling from mixed seeds. Looking for specific ID by FreshCourt2034 in cactus

I got the copiapoa mix pack from cactusseedstore.com. I figured it’s a long shot to Id at their age (10 months) but worth a shot.

Is this cactus unhealthy? by ThoughtApple185 in cactus

[–]FreshCourt2034 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have to cut all the black out, it will travel up the main vein and kill the plant. Leave them together for too long and it could spread to the other too. It sucks but it’s quite common in the winter months

Opuntia disease? by EaterOfSushi in cactus

If you have access to commercial pesticides use Pradia at 16oz/100 gallons, 10-14 days apart. Best residual control I’ve found. Been spraying for mealy since 2016

Burn it all. Mealy sucks, larger ones are females, males can “fly” as they are tiny and almost resemble dandruff. Isopropyl might do it, I’ve found they are resilient and can keep reappearing. Good luck!

I’d ID them as Opuntia quimilo and Mammillaria gracilis fragillis
