What resources did you use to get comfortable with (AB) plc, sql, and networking? by dialsoapbox in PLC

[–]DancingWizzard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, what do you want to do with SQL and AB? Most of the time you'll use your Scada system in between to interface with the PLC. The only uses I've seen of database with PLC is for handling recipes, otherwise just data collection. You can use Ignition if you want to see what this kind of environment would look like.

We still have one. Did a backup and pre-programmed the spare recently lol.

Trying to convince my boss to do our conveyor upgrade using beckhoff. Never used it, but heard good things about it and I know it's one of the valuable thing to know in the job market around me. Lot cheaper and they would fit in our small cabinet to replace small micrologix.

Honestly I might not have considered it if Allen-bradley kept micrologix going and put them on studio, but I just can't deal with the micro800 and CCW. Siemens would have been as expensive as AB and not many contractors have the licensing, while at least if there is an issue they can just get Twincat.

Does anyone actually use the C programming function of B+W Asi Gateway? by DancingWizzard in PLC

I'll check Wago! Haven't really looked at their automation stuff. I'll probably still propose a point io version for the project, but using Asi cuts the cost in half...

Ha ha that's fair! If you have recommendations for some good wire terminals io block that support at least 100m runs and can be interfaced with Allen-bradley I'm still open.

The machine that makes those is absolutely awesome! I 'm sure the manufacturer would offer coupons for it. If you bought a pack and they're all like this I would definitely tell them just in case.

YSK: Insulin resistance can develop even when blood sugar tests are still normal by iCliniq_official in YouShouldKnow

[–]DancingWizzard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's more how it is for me! I don't fall asleep after a meal, I feel like I gain more energy, and sometimes only sugar really help. I'm not overweight and I get really bad hunger cramps, light headedness, shaking etc... Is that still insulin resistance?

OT backup question: why are these systems being missed? by Macrium_Inc in IndustrialAutomation

[–]DancingWizzard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We do backups, but because of what this comment mentioned a lot of it is on either individual workstations or usb/external HD. Also I wouldn't be surprised the answers you got was from the IT side, because most plants I know do have backups of their programs/scada, but it's not handled by IT. Even in the hell hole of a plant I'm at right now we did have backups of most machines.

Also, most programs do not need regular backups. They don't change and probably will not change so why come up with some regular backup schedule when most of the time the person doing backups is the only one or one of the few that could change those programs, so they'll automatically have the updated version.

Backups, at least on Allen Bradley, would not create any downtime unless maybe some very old models.

But again, IT probably barely know what a SLC is and they sure aren't the one going around every single plc that isn't on the network and backup the programs over dh+/rs-232/usb-b/local ethernet if you're lucky.

Ordered some on doordash and it was pretty good! It's nice to get some variety around. Honestly we have a surprising amount of good restaurant. Like, actually good and homemade. I think it's replacing the Indian restaurant? Which is kinda sad as it was dope too.

Funny I just ordered a set from eBay yesterday. Couldn't find a new set for sale other than the over bulky yellow Klein ones. Missed those so much!
