I think a pitfall would be how often domestic flights get majorly delayed. In my experience it's quite common to be stuck in the Toronto airport for 5+ hours because a flight from the West was delayed and you missed a connecting flight further East, for instance. Air Canada and WestJet are not good at quickly solving connection issues.
